Sigrid Thoresdtr Grue

about Sigrid Thoresdatter GRUE, b 1824

Sigrid is the 8th child of my 3rd great-grandfather Thore Jonsen Grue (1778-1835). She was not married, but she had a daughter that was born outside of marriage - Olava Andersdatter Nøren [her father was Anders Olsen Nøren], born1852. In 1881 she and Mikkel Olsen Aasen (1854-1924) along witb their daughter, Berit Mikkelsdatter Aasen (b 1880) emigrated to the US. From the information that I had gathered in 2012 and in Oct/Nov 2022, they most likely settled at Arland Twp in Barron Co, Wisconsin. I have researched them and their children in the US.
However, one problem is that none of the records directly link Olava to her parents. Some of the Family Trees do record the correct birth date for both Michael and Olava, but do not record their parents. John Midtdal's book, Tufsingdalen ..., records Olava's birth and relationship with Mikkel Aasen, and that Olava had left for North America -but no information on her children.

Sigrid Thoresdatter Grue also had a relationship with Mikkel Mikkelson Mikkelsen Midtdal [1840-1895]. A son, Kristen Mikkelsen Midtdal [1857-1947], eventually became the farmer at Broen nørdre. Kristen had a number of children. One of his daughters [Sigrid] had married and her oldest son, Kristian Iversen Dalheim [1906-1991], had left Norway in 1927 for Canada. Kristian married in Edgerton, AB, and he and his family settled in Onoway, Alberta [north west of Edmonton].

Sigrid worked as a servant, and she eventually lived with her son, Kristen Midtdal. She died at the Broen nørdre farm in 1901

- Sigrid had a son, Christen, with Mikkel Mikkelsen Midtdal, - son, Christen (likely Kristen) "next farmer of Broen nordre"
- before this she had a daughter, Olava (born in 1852), with Anders Olsen Nøren; Olava emigrated to America 1881;

- lists Kristen Mikkelsen (born 1857) living at the farm, Midtdal Søndre, and as a Fosterson to Mikklel Larssen ; also listed in the household is Mikkel Mikkelsen, age 26 <1839>, as a male servant (Tjenestekarl) - this is likely Kristen's father (based on information from Orville Movold)

- A sister of Simen Toresen Grue (emigrated to USA and Canada) was Sigrid Grue. She lived on the Nordre Broen farm. She got an illegitimate child with Mikkel Mittdal. This child, named Kristian Mittdal become the owner of the farm (Norde Broen) in 1882. The family took the name after the farm, and they use Broen as their family name.

- 1865 Norway Cenus: lists Olava Andersd., age 14 <1851>, living at farm Neergaard in Vindgelen; servant to Anders Lars.

- Emigrants from Trondheim, registration date 2 April 1881: lists Olava Aasen, age 29 <1852> from Tolgen married to Mikkel Aasen and daughter, Beret Aasen, age <1, øø<1880>; family's destination as Menomone, Wisc (Sept 2005 - couldn't find a listing at ancestry.com for MIkkel or Olava Aasen in 1900 US census)

10. Bygebok for Os, vol 2, page 375 - Sigrid Toresdtr Grue

With Anders Olssen Nøra Sigrid Toresdatter had a daughter Olava b. 1852, possibly identical to Olava Andersdatter, maid of Johaugen in 1875. Olava Andersdatter, called Midtdal and resided on Trøa, had a daughter with Mikkel Olssen Åsen, Berit born 1880. Mikkel, Olava, Berit, left in 1881 to America.
With Mikkel Mikkelsen Midtdalen, Sigrid Toresdatter Grue had a son Kristen born 1857. See Larsgarden, 87-3.

Sigrid married Mikkel Mikkelsen Midtdal, son of Mikkel Larsen Midtdal and Berit Semundstr Bakken. (Mikkel Mikkelsen Midtdal was born on 18 Jan 1840 in Midtdalen Søndre, Tufsingdalen, Tolga, Hedmark, Norway and died on 19 Nov 1895 in Engådalen, Engerdal, Hedmark, Norway.)

Sigrid next married Anders Olsen Nøren.
