When I had first reviewed Olava Andersdatter's information in 2012, I was not convinced that I had the correct information on her and her family in the US.

In Oct and early Nov of 2022 I reviewed her information again. I now am more convinced that this is the my 1st cousin
[3 times removed], and that her mother is Sigrid Thoresdatter Grue (1824-1901. Sigrid was a sister to my 2nd great grandfather, Simen Thoresen Grue [1823-1903). The 2 Family Trees that I have noted below provide more information than I had found previously. One problem is that neither have included information that provides any detail on Olava's parents, other than a given name for her father, "Andrew".

However, there is a photo posted of Olava's family by Joyce Haus on 17 Feb 2017. As is often the case, the date
or location of the photo is not recorded. I have estimated the date sometime between 1905 and 1910 since the youngest daughter is likely about 10 years old or so. To me, one the interesting things about this photo is Olava. When I first saw this photo, I immediately felt there was a "Grue family resemblance". I have very few photos of Grue females that were taken before or in the early 1900s. One photo I have is of "Agathe Jonsdatter Grue, b 1870" [see her page for details, as well as her file folder under Jon Jonsen Grue, 1822]. Both Agathe Jonsdatter and Olava Andersdatter have similarities to what I think are definitely a "Grue" resemblance.

I have a few photos of "Grue females": however, the similarities with Olava Andersdatter are as not striking

[3]. Kjersit Simensdatter Grue, b 1854, married to Iver M Prestlien. see Claus J Grue photo album [no 9]; also family photo, taken about 1896.
[4]. Anne Margrete Thoresdatter Grue, b 1832, married to Peder Olsen Bye. She is a bit older than the others. I haven't found a confirmed photo of her; however, the Claus J Grue photo album [no 6] is of the "Bye folske" - I believe this is the photo of Anne Margaret's family likely taken in the late 1890s or early 1900s based on the youngest son, Thore [b 1876]

In 2022, I have reseached the children in more more detail - see their pages. I have also made a "Modified Descendant" list and had copied this on the "general tab".

As I indicated below, Olava Andersdatter and her husband, Mikkel Olsen Aasen [1851-1924] had farmed in Barron Co, WI and had lived there the rest of their lives. They had 5 children. Mikkel and Olava's surname in the US often vary in the records. The surname "Aaus" seems to be the most common, although they are also recorded with the surname "Olsen" or "Aasen".

5. Bygebok for Os, vol 2, page 375 - Sigrid Toresdtr Grue

With Anders Olssen Nøra Sigrid Toresdatter had a daughter Olava b. 1852, possibly identical to Olava Andersdatter, maid of Johaugen in 1875. Olava Andersdatter, called Midtdal and resided on Trøa, had a daughter with Mikkel Olssen Åsen, Berit born 1880. Mikkel, Olava, Berit, left in 1881 to America.

Conclusion; evidence on this family in the US is not clear. But, I am going to record the names of the children with only a "marginal level of surety/confidence in accuracy" although the sources (example, US Census) are at least probable or convincing evidence. More research (see 'to do list') in order to find more sources will need to be developed to increase the surety of the evidence and allow for descendants to be included on the family data
