Research Notes:
1. Birth:
- "The Centennial Reunion and Memoirs of the Skaret Family" indicates birth as Los, Sweden. - - "Olea Jensdatter Ostby and Peder Paulsen Grambo, Descendants and their History" indicates birth as Rullbo, Los in Halsingland, Sweden.
2. Swedish Church Records [ acessed 14 Jan 2011 on ancestry, then in 2015 and 2017 on Arkivdigital.net]
Los parish, Gälveborg County: Födde [ births ], 1890; p 4, line 61 Los births, C:4, image 37 no 61 [ Arkivdigital ]
13 Sept 1890, Avy Rangborg, oäkta [ born before the marriage of parents ]; mother - Brukaresdotter. Kristina Ericksdotter, Hiviåsen - no father is listed - the records also have a column for Civilstånd [ martial status ], with two other columns, one for Ätka and Oäkta - Ätka translated is true, authentic, real; legitmate is translated to Swedish as legitima - but the column for Avy is clearly marked for Oäkta
- under Modren column [mother] -- column checked for ej gift [ translated as not married ]; age 19 [ ålders - år ] <1871> - the far right column has something written, but I can't make it out and I also have not tried to translate the column heading [ 14 Jan 2011; this is likely from Ancestry.com and the SCB extract sheets ]
- in the Los parish Church books (C:4), witnesses: Per Halvorsson and wife Johanna Persdotter in Rulbo; Anders Persson and piga Gurine Skaaret in Grufbyn (Ole Olsen Skaaret's sister) (Gurine and Anders Persson were married on 2 Nov 1890); August Wallen or Hallen in Grufbyn, Erika Eriksdotter in Hiviåsen (Kristina's sister); Elin and Jon Olof Magnusson in Rulbo
BUT: in Ole and Kristina's marriage record (19 Jul 1891), Kristina is recorded as "Brukaredottorn", so with this it is likely that the meaning is 'farmer's daughter'
**** See, my document "Marriage - oäkta" initally written on 19 Jan 2019 with some additions on 2 Mar 2019, and 18 Apr 2020. Saved on, my PC and temporary under Family Genealogy, 'z folder' ]
The most reasonable Conclusion is Avey was born on 13 Sept 1890, close to a year before Ole Skaret and Kristina Eriksdotter were married on 19 Jul 1891. [ Genealogy Proof Standard - the most original documents from [the Sweden Church and parish records ]
[2 Mar 2019] "oäkta": So, the most realistic phrasing is that my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret, "was born before marriage of her parents."
As I have indicated, a child being born before the marriage of the parents was relatively common, and in a great many of the situations, the parents were later married. The Swedish parish priests most often used the word oäkta and rarely the term "trolovningsbarn". In my documentation, I have usually used the translation as "born out of wedlock" or "born outside of marriage", but the more correct, and probably more accurate, is "born before marriage of parents".
3. birth 13 Sept 1890

4. General
ancestry.com - public family tree --- owner "bonniewolfe809", accessed 11 Jan 2011 - states: "Avey had a stroke the summer of 1958, leaving her speech impaired. Jan 1960 she suffered another stroke and died Mar 6, 1960"
HOWEVER, Hay Lakes history book, 425-427, records this. THEREFORE, this is true. I submitted this entry - but dad would have confirmed much of the information.
