bullet  Research Notes:

12 July 2022Alberta Provincial Archives, Edmonton

Wallace Harland Grue NW¼ Sec 30 Twp 81, Range 8, W of the 6th

- the micro film records for this file are confusing [file Acc. 1989,.435 LD 1052] since the image quality is
poor, inverted film [black background grey writing], and some pages were repeated
- in fact the record pages sometimes referred to NE¼ and then NW¼ and then sometimes the just the N½ of Section 30,
and of course no explanation
- so the above record was for a grazing lease - Civilian Homestead Lease [the act that was enacted; Province of
Alberta, Dept of Lands and Forests]

1] Wallace had applied for the lease on 22 Dec 1953; and a Memo to that effect by Alberta on 29 Dec 1953;
159 acres on the NE¼
2] an inspection report - land is suitable to cultivation for grass with rotation of legume and grass;
and a purchase price of $300.00 [I'm not sure what this means - it looks like the lease must be paid for over time
and that after a number of years, with some improvements such as breaking of acres and planting of crops - in
this case, grass - a patent would be issued
3] letter of 6 July 1954 - regarding both NE and NW quaters - total of 318 acres and not 320 as previously noted
4] letter of 14 Jul 1954 - the N½, Sec 30; a requirement from government act: commencing in 1957, 6 months of
residency in each calendar year, erection of a house or completion of other improvements. Cultivation duties to
commence in 1954; and a payment of a crop share 1/6 commencing in 1957.
5] then 2 pages from 22 Dec 1953, Application for Homestead Lease. N ½
And at the bottom, "in case of Leasee's death,
the Department may communicate with Lars Grue, Hay Lakes" - this is the only page where grandpa is named
6] then a form from the government, outlining the minium cultivation requirents, for the years 1954-1962; and a
table outling the share - this I don't understand
7] Then a form completed, 16 Jun 1955 and signed by Wallace.... "...my plans have changed...going back to school
... I would like to cancel
8] Then another form completed, 29 Aug 1955 by Wallace -- Cancellation

Note: a patent was eventually granted to M. Parker on 20 Aug 1968

NOTE: see Lars Grue page - I had recorded a detail traveling outline to go to this land
