bullet  Research Notes:

1. Ancestry.com FamilyTrees. There are a couple of FT on Ancestry: Sharon's Tree FT (she is likely the person who posted a photo of the John P Hedman file that is saved in my z folder on 12 Jun 2020; but I can't determine which of the children she descends from) and, Warner FT (likely descends from daugther Lena who married Daniel Warner - note that one of their sons, Hyland / Highland died in Red Deer AB in 1997 but also a posted photo of him from 1930 at Spirit River, AB; also see a PDF for Daniel Warner fam ... )

For the most part I have used the Jones FT as the source of information for John William Hedman
But: by searching (William Hedman, b 1874 in MN; lived in Canada), 2 other FTs:

Ramsey Pettit Brusk Dennison Bull Zeigler FT
Dennison Soderlund Cooper Simpson Grierson FT
and, Borland FT

2. Family Search family tree; id LBF5-NSY; [accessed 13 Jun 2020; seems that most of the information, "DonDavis9", 3 May 2019
- does not record ancestors for William Hedman's mother, Christina Margaret Hanson"
- for son "John William Hedman" b 1874 - FT records birth as 1873; 5 children: Earl, b 1900, Howard, b 1901, Ivan b 1903, Chester Ray b 1906, Edell b 1909
- NOTE that this FT only names the children with birthdate - but NO other information

3. Jones FT on ancestry

John William Hedman b 21 Dec 1874, Minnesota City, Winona Co (from Jones FT); died 3 Feb 1944, Tisdale, SK
married 21 Dec 1897 at Sheyenne to: Emma Margaret Söderlund, b 2 Jun 1877 at Bersjo parish, Gävleborg; died 2 Nov 1932 Tisdale

This birth location is DOES NOT correspond with US Evangelical Church Records: - Stockholm Lutheran Church records:
image 1071: birth on 21 Dec 1874 and on image 810: Jon Persson (John Peterson) Hedman family
- Since this birth/baptism record is the closest docment to the actual event, I have recorded his birth as 21 Dec 1874 at Moores Prairie, Stockholm Twp, Wright Co, MN

Jones FT on Ancestry: "trek with covered wagons and mules. Settled on a homestead in the county of Assinibois[a], NWT". Left on 29 Aug 1899.
- also records that the family move to Cherry Creek in BC in 1907 and that daughter Della Nathale was born 22 Apr 1909 at Cherryville, as well as daughter Lavena b 13 Jul 1912; notes that William worked in the logging industry
- also records that in 1919, the family moved to the "Forester District" of Saskatchewan in 1919, and that was the place of birth of daugther Violet on 13 Oct 1914 ?? - this is not likely;
- and records that son Ira Harry Hedman was b 31 Aug 1917 at Tisdale: BUT that is not likely, since Ira Harry's WW 2 service file notes 3 or 4 times that he was born at Mazenrod, SK [ this is about 20 kms east of Gravelborg or about 30 kms north-west of Assiniboia, SK ]

- note: 14 Jun 2020;
Daniel Warner family: he was married to a daughter of John P Hedman and was a sister to John William Hedman -
known as Lena (b 1878) see her research notes
- em 1909; with son Herman age 4 [abt 1912] born in SK
- this family is recorded in 1916 Western Canada Census (AB, SK and MB), District Swift Current #30, sub - dis 2, page 14; Rural Municipality of Sutton (google this Municipality and it includes Mazenod); Twp 10, Range 2, W3 ;
using the website, http://legallandconverter.com/cgi-bin/shopats201703.cgi; and then a google map - abt 5 kms south of Mazenrod
dw 157, fam 158, line 21 [dw and fam are written over and hard to make out]. So, what I think is that William Hedman (b 1874) family left the Lumby - Cherryville are late in the summer of 1916 or 1917 and lived stayed with his daughter's family and then sometime between 1917 and 1921 the family moved to the Tisdale area, since they are recorded there in the 1921 Census; I did review the pages of the 1916 Canada West Census for the pages next to daugther Lena but did not see them recorded

Death: both Jones and Sharons Tree FT on ancestry record John William Hedman's death as 3 Feb 1944. However using Newspapers.com for Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, he his NOT indexed or recording an obit in 1944, let alone 3 Feb 1944. I have gone through newspaper pages for "deaths/funerals" from 3 Feb - 5 Mar 1944. Either he actually died someplace else or the date of death is not correct ??? [5 Aug 2020]
OR nothing was posted in the newspaper

Also not a notice in the above paper for this wife, Emma who died 2 Nov 1932 - according the FTs

He is recorded in Ancestry's collection, SK burial index for 1944 at Tisdale, SK ; she is recorded for the year 1931
there is nothing on findagrave

2.

John William Hedman, and family; also see 1880 US Census

1901 Canada Census Saskatchewan (the Territories); District: East Assinaboia (203?), subdivision- 55, Fletwode [abt 50 south of Whitewood and then west on hwy 711 about 10-15 kms; (Whitewood is abt 20 kms west from Moosomin and abt 30 kms west of SK and MB border); the area is likely within the Rural Municpality of Hazelwood; there is a cemetery and church near Fletwode. Although I am not sure of the date, but post office was established at Kennedy, in Aug 1904
At one point there was a school in Fletwode (School District 411) in Twp 11, Range 3, with the closest town, Kennedy.
From the village of Kennedy, travel east on Hwy 48 about 2 kms. Then south on Hwy 9 for about 10 Kms then west of rural road 711 and about 10 kms, would be the Fletwode / Hermon cemetery.

1901 Canada Census Saskatchewan (the Territories); District: East Assiniboia (no 203), sub- dis 55, Fletwode

Alfred J Hanson, homestead: SW Sec 24, Twp 12, Range 4, W2 [file, 654808; letter patent, 24 Apr 1904 ]
David Erickson, homestead: SW Sec 18, Twp 12, Range 3, W2 [file 721992; issued 8 Jun 1905, letters patent ]

Homestead files for SK - are Not scanned for Twp 12 - this may give more detail [15 Jul 2023]
- using the homestead registers on Ancestry and the letters patent from Lib and Archives BUT not all of the above are
noted and there appears to be some disceptancies
- Alfred J Hanson received the patent for Sec 24, but using the Ancestry collection - sec 24 was initially taken out by John P Hedman - thus the actual file would likely show John P Hedman had an entry but when it came to the patent, it was turned over to Alfred J Hanson
- John P Hedman received patent for NE Sec 12
- John William Hedman patent for SW of sec 22

But from the Enderby Press and Walkers Weekly, Enderby, BC; 14 Apr 1910; page 10 right side columns
- this is list of names put out by the Okangan Electoral District - objections to those people being retained on the voters list:
"Hedman, John William, residence Hullcar, Deep Creek; rancher; objection - left district - so this is likely that the family was with his parents (John Peterson Hedman) in the Deep Creek area and moved to the Cherryville - Cherry Creek area where they are located in the 1911 Canada Census
Note: some of the children place of birth has been recorded as Cherry Creek, BC. At first I thought this was typo and that the place was Cherryville. However, there is an area about 2-3 kms north of Cherryville along Sugar Lake Road that is Cherry Creek. It looks like the "Cherry Creek" flows out of Sugar Lake, about 15 kms north.
ALSO the same issue has listed John Johnson, farmer, left district - see John Petersen Hedman, 1911 census
