bullet  Research Notes:

NOTE: Spelling of surname: the Swedish spelling throughout the 1800 and 1900's is Löfgren, although some earlier records or writings, it is spelled as Lövgren. At some point (about the mid 1800's) in Swedish writing, the letter "f" replaced the letter "v". However, it is interesting to note that the spelling of mom's name in her Normal School Yearbook of 1934-1935 (page 28) is "Mary Lovgren", but in most of areas the spelling was Lofgren

In Canada (and likely most of the US) the surname is spelled as Lofgren; as far as I know, grandpa Jonas and gramma spelled their surname as Lofgren

4. a. Husförhör, Congregation Records, 1896-1919

Jonas August Löfgren worked and lived at a number of farms during this time period (until 1912): Granberg (1896-1897; page 245, vol 1); Sikjönäs #1, father's farm (1897-1902; page 958, vol 3); Sikjönäs #3 (1904-190; page 976); Sikjönäs # 3 (1909-1912, page 971 in vol 3- also recorded on this page is his wife Anna Margreta Näslund. Jonas and Anna are recorded getting married on 1 Apr 1912 and then leaving for North America, 1 Apr 1912.

- Anna Näslund, referenced to page 817- home of Johan Nikolaus Näslund, Nästansjö

This page also references page 179; far second right column, it is noted "173/1896" under the column Värnpligts forhållanden, google translation National Military Service conditions [?]: this particular reference is noted on a number of pages for Jonas, during this time period. I haven't been able to find any information, but perhaps on SVAR ? [ 8 Nov 2015 ]

4. b. Emigration , Apr 1912

Sweden Church Records: Moving in/out on Arkiv Digital

(note that there is not a record of Jonas and Anna leaving Siksjönäs in the Sweden Church Records (those records for the year is not available at ancestry.com, BUT Jonas and Anna are recorded on Arkiv Digital)

- Emigrants from Throndheim -- date of Departure is 10 Apr 1912, with destination as Camrose, Alta; ship Spero with the Canadian Line

- UK Outward Passenger List - line 201065, date of departure 19 Apr 1912, departing from Liverpool with the Canadian Pacific Railway Atlantic Steamship Line; port of arrival - Hull

- Canadian Passenger lists - R.M.S. "Empress of Britain", departed Liverpool on 19 Apr 1912 arriving at St John, NB (Saint John) on 27 Apr 1912 at 18:45; total of 1459 passengers;
- on page 1 on ancestry, it appears that 5 "special" CPR trains left at 20:30, 23:25; 2:45; 5:20; and 6:10

- Jonas and Anna Lofgren; line 201065; born in Sweden, destination as Alta; to be engaged in Farming and Jonas has been farming since 1902 [ ??? does this mean he farmed someplace other than his fathers' ?? ; questions are "what is your intended occupation in Canada" and "have you ever worked as a Farmer .. and if so, when and how long"? -- answers, Farming, 10 years, since 1902 ]

5. a. Land -- CPR land sales, 21 May 1912 ;; http://ww2.glenbow.org/search/archivesCPRResults.aspx
[ accessed 26 Oct 2013 ]

Call Number: M 2272, volume 182, contract number ID-3620
Purchaser(s): LOFGREN, JONAS A.

Land Description: NW-9-49-21-W4
Number of Acres: 150.20
Price per Acre: $11.00 [ 150.2*11= $1,620.20 -- that would have been a lot of money at that time - in 2015 dollars it would have been about $2100.00 ($14 canadian, about $8 US)
Status of Purchase: UNCERTAIN

b. Western Land Grants

Part NW Sec 9, Twp 49, Range 21, W4th

Vol 910, Folio 232, microfilm 6672

c. Land Purchase; note from Camrose Canadian, 30 Mar 1916, page 5, Col 1 (1st Entry).
"Around About Camrose". "Messrs. Hoyme & Bjerkness [lawyers] sold the NE 9-19-21 to Peter Hanson and Jonas Lofgren this week."
Note: the quality of the image is very poor. Jane Feduk (nee Lofgren) records the land at NE 9-15-21. But when I look at the image, I think it is NE 9-19-21 - twp 19 rather than 15. Twp 15 Range 21 would be a bit south of Lomond, AB and east of Champion. Twp 19 Range 21 is a bit north east of Milo and south of the Cluny Reserve.

- neither of these options make much sense. Maybe there is a typo error in the above note from the Camrose Canadian and it should have read "NE 9-49-21" since this is the land we know they bought together. Jonas took the W half of this quarter, and from mom's book "I've a Story to Tell" (1994) on page 13 that Jonas and Pete Hansen bought the quarter of land directly east of Jonas' place [ this was NW¼ of Sec 9 and so directly east would have been the NE¼ of Sec 9 ] and it was on this quarter Jonas and granmma built a new house and farm yard (their first house and barn were separated by a creek. Jonas had built a small bridge over the creek so they could easily get from the house to the barn). In the fall of 1920 or 1921 the new house burned to the ground (see photo doc).

6. Death - no digitalization for Camrose Canadian for 1950, but I have printed the funeral/obit using the microfilm records at the Camrose Public Library.

Grandpa Jonas died in Edmonton. The funeral/obit says he passed away "after a lingering illness." In the Hay Lakes history book (page 542), it is noted that in 1948 he "became crippled with arthritis" and had to stop farming. This entry was likely written by mom.

Note: I haven't been able to find very much about Grandpa and Gramma Jonas - it seems mom did a lot of writing about a lot of topics, but very very little on Grandpa and Gramma in their later years. NOTE: 11 June 2016 -- I recently found a booklet that mom had written, but did not date (probably written in the late 1980's or early 1990's). The duo-tang booklet is labelled with a "C", with the first page titled "I've a story to Tell" by Mary Elizabeth Lofgren-Naslund Grue. I will scan this and save it to my genealogy documents.

7. Misc: The Camrose Canadian, 27 Jun 1934, page 4, Armena News

- the Lovgren brothers did some breaking of land for M B Lyseng and finished a 35 acre job for the Kringens [ I'm not sure who were the 'Lovgren' brothers - but Jane Feduk (Lofgren) noted in the email of 8 May 2016 that it is likely "...my Dad Johan Alexis Lofgren and Erik Lofgren ... who did a lot of jobs together in the area ....." ]

8. Ancestry Family Tree: DO NOT peruse this FT - no family relationship
- there is a FT on Ancestry, Bondelie, Holdal, and Lyseng Family History ['owner' bshabluk1] with my last access on
1 Aug 2021 . Sometime between 2005 and 2011, I had contacted this 'owner' and asked how he was related to the Lyseng's and Lofgren's since he had Lofgren's in his database. He responded that he wasn't related, but he knew some of the Lyseng's. 40
