.. death: 14 Apr 1898 as recorded in the Faribault Co, death records [searched on FamilySearch] is most likely correct. On the FamilySearch collection, there is only Semming's son Simon's death in for the 1901
- this also means that the death record on the Shiloh Lutheran Church record is also INCORRECT .....
the term Jordæstede or Jordfeste is often considered the date of the funeral service just after burial
jordpåkasting" refers to the priest's blessing on the grave/coffin some times after that the coffin was put into the grave -
sometimes a month or later.
... this was not uncommon in the 1700s - 1800s in Norway, particularly when the parish priest was not always physically at
the burial ... I have read that Jordæstede or Jordfeste was when the priest had annouced to the congregation in the church that a person had died and buried on the farm or ... example, a person had gone into the mountians to maybe hunt, but did not come home ... the family later found the corpse in the springtime ... then the priest would announce the death, some months later .. [unfornately I don't remember when or where I read this, but this note is written, 21 Oct 2025]
... from Shiloh Lutheran Church record, it appears that the earliest Jordæstede was Dec 1900, and since so many of the Bergseth family died from TB or consumption, the pastor recorded or noted Semmings death under the Jordfæste annoucement on 13 Apr 1901 ... however, this doesn't explain the Dødsdatum [date of death] as 11 Apr 1901
... I think the Faribault Co, death records is likely the most accurate ..... 10521
