T. M[?]. Movold writes to us:
I see in the "Decorah-Posten" for January 26th, in Question 1684 {?}, that someone is asking for information about whether there is any Norwegian settlement in Alberta, Canada. I can inform you that I have a son there, and even several in my extended family, in addition to many others whom I know from here; they are all in the same settlement. One must take the railway to Wetaskiwin and then the road to Bitter Lake P.O. [Post Office], about 15 miles from Wetaskiwin. My son, Ole Movold, lives 5 miles from the Post Office. He has been there 7 or 8 years.

- Came to Armena, AB Canada in 1894 along with Thore S. Grue; chose a homestead, and then went back to MN and brought up the family later in the summer of 1894
- Ole's first wife (Ingri) died after the birth of son, Tommy - this was written by Tommy's daughter on page 133; [he was born 22 Oct 1881 according to the 1901 Canada Census]
- BUT on page 307 there is an entry for Ole T Movold (submitter is not identified), it is written that Ole had met Ingrid Saether of Tugsingdalen and in 1881 they married in Norway and immigrated to MN the same year. Of course, Ole had left Norway with his parents in 1868 (but according the this entry Ole's father had traveled back to Norway, and so obviously, Ole also went back at least once). On page 308 (1st col), "To this union (Ole and Ingrid) Thomas and Ingval were born. Ingval passed away in infancy and Ingrid died shortly after his birth."
- see
**** Cemetery Index, Otter Tail Co Historical Society [I viewed at Fergus Falls, May 2008, and made rough notes] - notes: - Ingri Movold (wife) died at age 23, 28 Oct 1881 - a note, although not clear of parents - Ingvald Morvold, d 23 April 1884
**** Otter Tail Co Courthouse (May 2008 visit) - listing for a child Anne Marie Movold, age 10 (but not clear, but likely 10 months?); died 23 April 1884; parents Ole Movold and Gea Movold
=== Conclusion: (1) Ole Movold and Ingri likely had twins [ Thomas and Ingvald ], born 22 Oct 1881 - Ingri died on 28 Oct 1881, most likely due to complications from child birth. (2). Ingvald died 23 April 1884. Ole and Gea Grue had a daughter, Anne Marie [ if age 10 months, then birth would have been about June 1883; not recorded by descendants ] who died on 23 April 1884 [ NOTE: Ole remarried in 1884 to Gea Grue ]. (3). It is possible that something like a "flu" made both children - Ingval(d) and Anne Marie - very sick and they sucummed to the illness; if not an illness, some other "tragedy" or accident must of struck, since both died the same day ---- this is NOT CONFIRMED = it will be difficult to verify the above;

- also listed on NW quarter of Sec 14 is a School, number of rooms is 1, number of students - 20; this would most likely be Tordenskjold School, built in 1897 http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1901/z/z004/jpg/z000179348.jpg [viewed 9 Jan 2023] - page 1, line 8 to the left [line 24, does refer to Ole Movold]; no of dw etc, as above then at the left, line 9 refers to line 34 on page 1 refers to a boarder at the Ole Movold farm: Lizzie Shaw, b 10 Jan 1876 in Ontario [?] and she is a English nationality; occupation Teacher, employee, earnings of $248 [?] : NOTE: in "Dear Golden Old Rule Days" page 5 - Miss Lizzie G. - using the "land locator" website, the NW¼ of Sec 14 [Twp 48, Range 21] and using Google and Bing Maps, it would appear that the Tordenskjold school was likely built near Ole Movold's homestead buildings and "quadrant 13"- the south east portion of 13 [in the 1950s-1970s this farmsite was the home of Adolph Peterson and Doris (Oscar Grue's daughter).

In the Armena History book ... , page 297, Darren Moe had written the submission on the John Moe family, and has the following statement regarding the first Tordenskjold school: "This rough log building was sided and it still stands, being used by the Dyck family as a garage". The above statement was likely written around 1981 (the book was published in 1982). At the beginning of the article, Darren notes that the information in the article/submission was based on part by 'conversations' with his grandfather, Adolph Moe. Adolph died in 1972 and so Darren may have had some notes prior to Adolph's death, or Darren had other information collaborating the above quoted statement.
RE: Dyck family?
---------------------------------------------
-- Armena History book (and others) does not give location of the first school (other than it mentions the building on the Everett Grue farm); under the Grue, Movold, Moe, family sections, there is discussion of the building (logs from White Water Lake hauled to Thore Grue and sawed), etc, but does not say the location of the first building --- Nels Grue's booklet says the school was built one mile north and 1 and 1/4 mile West of Armena "and can still be seen on the same farm" - this again, would be the farm of Everett Grue; --- Oscar Grue's booklet does not give location, but suggests it is on the farm of Everett Grue; +++ ++ not known when the school would have been moved from Ole Movold's farm (1914)
6. 1900 US Census, Dooly Co, Georgia
- Ole, Gea, Thomas, Engwald, Inga, Tila, Lena Clora, (Oscar born 1896 in MN - ?; 1901 Canada says born in Canada), Arthur (born, June 1898 in Canada) - married 18 years, <1878> - Gea - 8 kids, 8 living (?) - to US 1880 - 20 yrs in US - Ole, farmer
In the US after June 1898 ---- Armena History Book says - Ole and Gea lived for about 2 years in Georgia (abt. 1894 to 1896) - this would conflict with their recording in the 1900 US Census in Georgia [ 12 Jan 2012 -- Georgia state census ??? ]
