bullet  Research Notes:

Summary:

It is likely that Per Halstensson's son, Pehr or Peter, was known as Peter Hanson in the US.

For the most part I have used the 'Jones FT' on Ancestry as the starting point. However, it is not clear why this FT records his name as Nils Peter Hanson. Also used Johnston/Vick FT

I think what has happened is that Nils Hanson 'seems' to have disappeared and so someone simply started to name Peter as Nils Peter and others followed suit - those that followed do not typically record the birth of Nils Uranus Halstenson/Hanson, since there is no birth record because he was born during the voyage across the Atlantic.

NOTE: I have used 2 FTs from Ancestry for the above

names, dates etc. [I had to limit the names and time to record everything - perhaps another day. 24 Jul 2023]

on Image 82 on Vol 73 (Eddy Co, ND) is the name Peter Halstens... (the last couple of letters are not visible; but the GLO records, Peter Halstenson)
E½SW¼ Sec 27, Twp 150N, Range 66, 5 Meridian; 80 acres: date of sale 3 Jul 1896 with final issue on 10 Jan 1901
- this is likely Peter Hanson, the son, b about 1866 in Cokato, MN; however, but it can't verfied, since the US Census records do not make note of land sections,etc. Peter Hanson is recorded in the 1910 US Census in Sheyenne Twp, Eddy Co, and so this is likely the land that he had first purchased from the US government in 1896

1910 US Census, Benson Co, Lallie Township (earlier pages consist of an Indian school or township - Fort Totten. Ancestry.com has a very strange title for this on the top of the page: 1861 England Census for Peter Hanson, then on the next line, North Dakota, Benson, Esmond, district 0023 ?????
- the actual sheet says North Dakota, County Benson, twp or other division: Lakeview Twp, but Lakeview is crossed off and above it is written Lallie ??? [familysearch does not have Esmond or Lakeview and for Lallie only 2 pages for the Fort Totten ???l Peter Hanson is not indexed ????;

- so .... 1910 census Benson Co, Lallie Township, on sheet 4B, fam 49 (no dwelling number is noted), line 51

Peter Hanson, age 43, married 15 years, farmer;
wife Pernilla, age 32, mother of 8 children, 7 living
then, records 7 children, with the last name indexed as "Hetchie" age 2 months, but this is likely Fletcher, b 1910

3. The Ancestry FTs record that Peter Hanson died in Bismark (maybe in a hospital ??) on 15 Dec 1949. They also link him to findagrave post: Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne, Eddy Co, ND (id # 131321407). A number of family members are also noted, so this is likley correct.
Note: Jones FT links a findagrave cemetery in MacLeod county in MN, but this doesn't make any sense.

4. US City Directories, (Ancestry)

Bismark, ND; 1954; image 78; Pernilla Hanson (wid of Peter Hanson); residence 405 Hannafin

5. Son Benjamin, 9 Apr 1899

- note that Jones FT does not record any more information on Benjamin - no marriage; death etc only his birth; Brodin FT does record him at all
- BUT Benson FT has him recorded as "Benjamin V Hanson"

1930 US Census: for Sheyenne Twp, Eddy Co, ND; ED 17, sheet 5A, dw 75 fam 77; line 35
Ben and wife Lucille age 19 b in MN; Ben married at age 23 [1922 - fr census image]; he has a barber shop in village of Sheyenne
1940 US Census: Sheyenne Twp, Eddy Co, ND; ED 14-17, sheet 2B, fam 36; line 45
Ben - now is a Proprietor of Recreation Hall; wife, and then a son Vernard age 7;

son, Vernard Joel born 28 Feb 1932 at Sheyenne (Grandfield Lutheran Church record, image 33)
[note the Benson FT has numerous entries - it seems that the FT makes another recording if name spelled differently etc]

death: findagrave id 134094878; posted note on findagrave:
Bennie was born on a farm east of Sheyenne in 1899 to parents Peter and Pernilla Hanson. He began his barbering career as an apprentice with Henry Miller in 1918. He bought the barber shop, confectionery and billiard parlor from Mr. Miller and continued with his business until his death. He married Lucille Johnson in 1922, the daughter of Joseph and Tillie Johnson. The couple had one son Venard Hanson. [FT says he died 18 Sep 1998 and Detroit Lakes, Becker Co, MN]

6. Johnson/Vick FT on Ancestry [owner likely decends from Pernila Vick or maybe Olava Vick]
similar information Jones FT

but says Peter Hanson and Pernilla Vick were married, 7 Oct 1894 at Minnewauken, ND [small town on western shore of Devils Lake, abt 30 kms north of Sheyenne.]

- I doubt the place of marriage is correct - it is more likely they were married at Sheyenne, ND, since the 2 youngest children were born and baptised at Grace and Augustana Lutheran Church in Sheyenne; and since Pernilla's (and Olava, married to Alfred J Hanson) parents - Ivar Vick were early settlers in the Sheyennne area. 8876

picture

Peter married Pernilla Vick on 7 Oct 1894 in Minnewaukan, Benson Co, North Dakota, United States. (Pernilla Vick was born on 7 Oct 1877 in Norway, died on 29 May 1956 in Bismark, Burleigh Co, North Dakota, United States and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne, Eddy Co, North Dakato, Unites States.)

bullet  Noted events in their marriage were:

1. Marriage - 1894, 1894, North Dakota, United States. Both the Jones FT and Johnson/Vick FT on Ancestry record that Peter Hanson and Pernilla Vick were married on 7 Oct 1894 in Minnewauken, ND. This is about 30 kms north of the Sheyenne area. No source information is noted, so the actualy date of marriage cannot be verified. However, it also seems to be an "odd" location, since Pernilla's father Ivar Vick was involved in the Grandfield Luthean Church in Sheyenne (but the marriage is not recorded in the church record). What would be the reason for them to be married someplace else ?
