Halsten Persson

  Research Notes:

Note: many children (son Per, daughter Kajsa married to Jons Erickson, daughter Marit married to Henrik Paulson, daughter Kjerstin married to Karl Erik Nordberg, and son Olaf married to 'our' Sigrid Jonsdotter), left Östmark parish and settled first in Wright Co, MN - initially to Stockholm Twp and Buffalo Twp.

Per Halstensson was married twice. His first wife died in Sweden; his second wife likely died in Wright Co, MN. Per and some of his children left MN around 1886 and went to the Sheyenne, Eddy Co, ND area. And later, some of his children went to the area around Kennedy, Sk, and at least 2 of children, moved to the north Okanagan area of British Columbia around 1906-1907.

Kajsa Halstensdotter [married to Jons Erickson] lived in Stockholm Twp. Two of her sons eventually moved to the Quesnel, British Columbia; a daughter moved to the area south of Tribune, Sk. Halsten's daughter Marit married Henrik Paulson and they lived in the Cokato, Wright Co, MN area. Halsten's daughter Kjerstin and her family lived in the Buffalo Twp, Wright Co, MN area.

Olaf Halstensson and family moved to the area around Sheyenne, Eddy Co, ND. Olaf had a son prior to his marriage to Sigrid Jonsdotter - Halsten O Halsten who was married and his family also lived in the area around Sheyenne, ND.
I have a double relationship with Olaf Halstensson [4th half cousin] and his wife Sigrid Jonsdotter [2nd cousin].

At least 3 of Halsten Persson's children stayed in Sweden: Jöns b 1828 (see below), Halsten, b 1832, Ingeborg b 1830 - see household record, AI:22 below. At this point (8 Nov 2020) I have not researched these families through the Parish household record volumes.

Halsten Persson (1804) ancestry can be traced by to Ivar Nilson, 1713-1787. Ivar Nilsson was my 6th great-grandfather. Ivar Nilsson was married 3 times. He was first married Karin Olofsdotter (1720-1743). Ivar and Karin had 1 child, my 5th great grandfather, Nils Ifvarsson (1740-1820)/

Ivar Nilsson (1713-1787) was married a second time to Britta Engelbretsdotter (1719-1758). They had 4 children, with the oldest Hallsten Ivarsson (1749-1839). He was the grandfather of Halsten Persson (1804-1855) and as indicated, 4 of Halsten Persson's children had left Östmark parish for Wright Co, MN.

In 1859, Ivar Nilsson married a third time to Catharina Bengtsdotter [1723-1791]. They did not have children.

Halsten Persson [b 1804?] was sentenced to 'uppenbar kyrkoplikt' - he had to stand up in the church and confess his crime in front of everybody, because he had beaten up his mother previously. The church 'confession' was in 1832. Östmark (S) AI:15 (1851-1855) Bild 15 / sid 13 (AID: v9140.b15.s13). At the same page we can read that son Halsten b 1832 had frozen his feet. Poor people.....

- it seems that they move in Apr 1861 - but they are not recorded in moving out records
