bullet  Research Notes:

Summary:

Anders Andersson, born 15 Mar 1745 and died 2 Jan 1806

Written by Rueben D Grue; © 2019. All rights reserved.

Anders Andersson's (b 1745) birth/baptism record is recorded in the Fryksände parish records. His parents are recorded as Anders Andersson and Karin Stephansdotter from Ärnsjön.

There are a number of points to consider and remember when researching his family information, including his ancestors:

1. Starting around 1800, the area of Östmark parish was under the boundaries of Frysände parish, even though there was a chapel at Östmark since about 1765 and that the first household records under Östmark parish start in 1773. Earlier records for Östmark are recorded in Frysände parish.
The changes are most likely due to population increases. As the population increases, there is a need for more services. At the same time, some farms or villages changed names. Again this is likely due to population increases and new farms are needed.
2. Many researchers and some websites record our family prior to 1800's coming from Östmark parish, even though the earlier records are in Fryksände parish reords. On my Legacy database I have recorded Fryksände parish to around 1765 and then record Östmark parish.
3. Prior to the mid 1800's and even into the early 1900's, many families in Sweden used a patronmyic naming pattern. With the name Anders Andersson, we can determine that the partronmyic name of "Andersson" means that he was the son of Anders (Andersdotter means that she was the daughter of Anders). It can be confussing trying to keep track of the "right" Anders Andersson. This is particularly important in researching the ancestors of my 4th great grandfather, Stephan Andersson (b 1748).
4. Many other family researchers have created family trees. Many of these family trees are recording people named Anders Andersson, but who is not the father of, or a sibling to, my 4th great grandfather, Stephan Andersson (b 1748). Using these other family trees and then following the church records, a person can spend many hours researching the wrong person (see appendix). This is particularly true with my 4th great grandfather, Stephan Andersson (b 1748) and his ancestors and siblings.
5. There are times that the parish priest recorded a birth year incorrectly and repeats this mistake over many years, and again this is true when reviewing records of my family.
6. Another point to keep in mind when reviewing other Family Trees on the internet. Some family researchers (such Kenneth Bergman, Roger Olof Holmstrand, and Bo Brunzell to name researchers that I have often referred to) make use of the Finnish Family Names (FFN), such as "Hotakka". so they would record my 5th great grandfather as Anders Andersson Hotakka.

Part One

There are 2 children with the given name of "Anders" that are recorded in the household records of Fryksände and Östmark parish and with a birth year of 1746. However, this birth year is incorrect. Although there are a number of children with the given name Anders, in this summary I am interested in only in two named Anders Andersson. The first child with a given name of Anders was actually born on 25 Dec 1744 and his parents were Anders Andersson and Elisabeth Olofsdotter from Långsjöhöjden (see Part Two).

The other child was Anders, born on 15 Mar 1745 and his parents were Anders Andersson and Karin Stephansdotter from Ärnsjön. It is this second child that I am mainly interested in and who is my relation. But unfortuantely many other family researchers have these two children confused, and in fact, record the first Anders and his ancestors and descendants as "our" family relationship. The birth facts and other information can be determined by carefully reviewing the Fryksände parish records (and later, Östmark parish).

As I have indicated, my family relation is Anders Andersson born on 15 Mar 1745 and his parents were Anders Andersson and Karin Stephansdotter from Ärnsjön. He was a brother to my 4th great grandfather, Stephan Andersson (b 1748). In his early years, he lived with his parents at the farm/village of Ärnsjön, with the early records found in Fryksände parish records. Anders Andersson born in 1745 was not married and as far as I can determine, he had no children. In some of the household records there is a word prior to his given name but the word is very difficult to make out, but it is likely the word Skräd or Skräddare meaning "Tailor"

Following is a record of the household records where Anders Andersson is recorded. I have included the parish and the placename, as well as other notes (the pages/images are from the Arkivdigital collection).

Fryksände (S) AI:5 (1750-1752) Image 47 / Page 83; bottom of page; Ärnsjön
- with parents
Fryksände (S) AI:6a (1752-1757) Image 201 / Page 205; Ärnsjön
- with parents
Fryksände (S) AI:7 (1757-1765) Image 115 / Page 109, Ärnsjön - this is likely 'our' Anders although an patronmyic is not recorded and after the name is another word or words but I'm not sure of the meaning; he is recorded as farm hand
Fryksände (S) AI:8 (1764-1768) Image 44 / Page 39; Östmark
- with parents

Östmark (S) AI:1 (1773-1778) Image 7, bottom; Östmark in [pgd.] ? Frysksmark - this page is unique since it appears to written on the inside of the book cover - Anders Andersson .....??, [I think this may be refering to the son a Soldator ?], b 1746
Östmark (S) AI:2 (1779-1787) Image 7 / Page 1, mid page; Östmark Prästgård - there is a word or words prior to his given name, but I can't make it out [likely the word in vol AI:5)
Östmark (S) AI:3 (1788-1793) Image 17 / Page 12 (at the bottom, Östmark); and he
is also recorded on Page 167 close to the top at Svenskärn
Östmark (S) AI:4 (1794-1799) Image 19 / Page 13, mid page, 2nd 2nd last grouping;
Östmark (S) AI:5 (1800-1806) Image 21 / Page 15, mid page, Östmark, and then a reference to Page 150, Mellmarkstorp and at mid-age grouped with the family of Stephan Andersson born 1749; this is my 4th great grandfather - on page 15 and prior to his given name is the word "Skräd...?" [this is likely the word Skräd or Skräddare meaning "Tailor") - on page 150 at Mellmarkstorp and to the left of his given name is "Br", an abbreviation for "brother", that is, brother of Stephan Andersson.

Anders Andersson, b 1745 (1746), is not recorded in the next volume (AI:6) of the household records for Östmark, nor is he recorded the following volume (AI:7). However, I started to review parish death/burial records, starting with 1805. I found this death/burial record [Östmark (S) CI:1 (1765-1818) Image 208 / Page 423, no 2 in 1806]. Anders Andersson died 2 Jan 1806 and was buried on 12 Jan. His death/burial records notes that he died at age of 60 years at Mellmarkstorp. His cause of death is noted, but I can't make it out. Prior to his given name is likely the word for Skräddare.

Part Two Anders Andersson, b 25 Dec 1744.

This Anders Anderssson initially caused me much confusion. Most of the household records for Fryksände parish record his birth as 1746, although some earlier records record birth as 1745. But this Anders was actually born on 25 Dec 1744 and his parents were Anders Andersson and Elisabeth Olofsdotter from 25 Dec 1744 . Another confusion arises from the placename of Långsjöhöjden. For a period of time it was recorded in both the Frysände and Östmark household records (these may be duplicate pages). This Anders Andersson was from Långsjöhöjden in Fryksände parish.

Although I haven't reviewed every volume of the household records, it appears that he may have lived in Norway for a period and that he likely was married 2 times. In Fryksände volume AI:9b on page 170 he is recorded at Långsjöhöjden with wife Gertrud, his mother Lisa Oldotter and some of Lisa's children (besides the name of some of the children is the phrase "i Norje", but it isn't clear that they were born in Norway or if they were in Norway at the time). The next volume (AI:10, page 180) he is recorded along with his wife Gertrud Jacobsdotter who died (b 1750; d. 1777) and his mother Lisa Olsdotter (b 1721). On the lines following Lisa, some of her children are recorded. The same family is recorded in the next volume (AI:11, page 178) and in the next volume (AI:12, page 223), this Anders Andersson has remarried to Lisa Jönsdotter b 1761. This Anders Andersson died on 16 May 1804 (Fryksände deaths/burials, FI:1, page 143 no 57). The death/burial record says that he died at age 60, and this would mean his birth would be in 1744.

There are 2 Family Trees on Ancestry.com that have confused this Anders Andersson, born 25 Dec 1744 with 'our' Anders Andersson born 15 Mar 1745. They have used the birth date of 15 Mar 1745 ('our' Anders), but then follow Anders Andersson (actual birth date of 25 Dec 1744) family at Långsjöhöjden in Fryksände parish. These two Ancestry Public Trees are: owner "Dis Nor 20181107" [likely updated, 7 Nov 2018], and owner Ancestry Public Tree owner "Per-Olav Persson Sl These two trees also provide some descendant information, but again, these people would not be our relations

Part Three

When researching Anders Andersson born 15 Mar 1745, I also found a number of family trees with most of them on the DISBYT database base. However, none of these provide any information on the person Anders Andersson born 15 Mar 1745.

I have reviewed a number of family trees at on FamilySearch, Ancestry, Geni (geni.com) and Disbyt. There are a number of family trees that record Anders Andersson born on 15 Mar 1745 and as the son of Anders Andersson (b 1715) and Karin Stephansdotter (b 1713, but of course this date of birth is NOT correct date - see my notes on her page of Legacy). However, most of these family trees only record his name and birth and do not record his death or anyother information about him.

2. General Research notes: But based on the following: There are 2 children born in 1744-1745 and named Anders with father as Anders Andersson, but they lived (at least initially) at different farms/villages.

1. Residence, 1745-1806, 1745-1806, Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden. 8398 See research notes and the summary article. His early years, he is recorded with his parents and the records are found Fryksände parish household records. During his adult lifetime he is recorded in the Östmark household records, and for the most part, living either at the village of Östmark or with his brother at Mellmarkstorp. I have only sourced the Östmark parish records.
