(1) The earliest "Skaret" was Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgård, 1634-1715. One of his sons was Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgård born in 1679 at Hammersgård. Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgård was married twice. His first wife was Gjertrud Persdatter and they had 5 children. About 1707 Gjertrud Persdatter died and sometime after this, Ole married again to Gullaug Jensdatter Nordby (and they had 11 children. The Trysilboka (vol 2, page 477) discusses Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgård and has some information on Hammersgård (gnr. 36, bnr. 1). Our family descends from Ole Gjermundsen's first wife.

(2). Otter Olsen Skaaret was born in 1705 at Hammersgård in the Øver-bygda area, about 5 kms north of Trysil. In 1732 he married Anne Marie Samuelsdatter (1712-1795). It is not clear where she was born, but likely in the vicinity. From this website, Otter Olsen Skaaret had 9 children. The youngest 4 children were born at Hammersgaarden, and notes that the 5th child (Kersti, born 1742) was born at Skaaret. Thus, Otter Olsen Skaaret likely came to this are between 1739 and 1742. However the granting of the license to settle Skaaret was issued by the court/ballif on 8 Dec 1745, and Otter Olsen (from Hammersgaard) 'immediately moved to Skaaret' (according to Tysilboka, vol 1, page 551. This is likely the most accurate, and so Otter Olsen Skaaret came to the farm Skåret in 1745-46, and therefore his daughter Kersti was likely born at Hammersgaarden.

[from conversations with people in Norway in the summer of 1980, there seemed to be a concensus that Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden came to Skaaret in 1745; "In the year 1745, Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden came to the Skaret homeplace ..."; mom and I had written this in her "Lofgren, Naslund, Skaret, Grue Album" likely in 1980-81 - see brown 2 inch binder]

Kersti Ottersdatter Skaaret (1742-1827) married Per Persen (1747-1821) who was born in Sør-Kolos (Kolos søndre). Kolos is about 20 kms south of Trysil. Their son, Otter Persen Skåret (1780-1864) is our direct line ancestor. His oldest son was Per Persen Skåret (1806-1884) and lived on Søgarn Skåret (gnr. 11, bnr.1). Our family descends from Per Persen and Kersti Ottersdatter Skåret, first from Otter Persen Skåret (1780-1864), then Per Ottersen Skåret (1806-1884) and then Ole Persen Skåret (1834-1914) who was married to Gjertrud Pedersdatter Grambo (1883-1876), 'our' Ole Olsen Skaret's (1869-1940) parents. A sister to Ole Persen Skåret was Pernille Persdatter Skåret (1843-1907) and she was married to Halvor Nordby; they homesteaded south of Port Townsend, Washington.

'Our' Ole Persen Skaret's wife, Gjertrud Pedersdatter Grambo (1883-1876) had 6 siblings. One of her brother's, Paul Pedersen Grambo emigrated to North Dakota. One of her sister's, Oline Pedersdatter Grambo married Ole Sorgaarden and they emigrated to Douglas Co, Minnesota.

A brother to Kersti Ottersdatter Skåret was Otter Olsen Skåret, 1737-1807. He had 9 children. One son was Jon Ottersen Skåret (1790-1875) and one of his descendants was Peter Johnson Skaret (1883-1966) who had homesteaded in the Rycroft, Alberta area. Otter Olsen Skåret's daughter, Marte Ottersdatter (1733-1854) had married Ole Halvorsen. One of their descendants was Martin Olsen Skaret (1865-1948) who had also homesteaded in the Rycroft area and in Kinuso (he also lived often with Lars and Avey Grue in Hay Lakes).

Also see myPC documents/folder for my translation of Trysilboka, pages 466 & 477 (titled, Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard and son, Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgard; 10 Mar 2017) and my article/research notes titled, Otter Olsen Skaaret, also known as Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden (1705 - ) and completed 10 Mar 2017

1. Trysilboka, page 554

"...The first farmer/user of land at Skåret was Otter Olsen who was from Hammersgården (Gjermundshaugen) and was married to Anna Marie Samuelsdatter..."

page 551

.... the court ruling granted the license to settle ..... date of the ruling was 8 Dec 1745 .... "Otter Olsen immediately moved to Skåret, but he had been away for a time on Hammersgården in 1753 [and he] states that he is a cotter in Fron in Gudbrandsdalen. He had incidentally a sister who was married there. But he probably had not been away [much], since younger son Simen was born at Skåret."

- click on tab for 'side'; this pages appears to be like a "wiki" page --- quite extensive
reviewed a bit on 5 Sep 2023
- has some short articles on a number of topics and some farms ; links to various volumes of Trysilboka ...
- links to map; link

- note that the above map, further north of Skaaret, is the farm Strand and then a bit north of this is Bakken
further north is Nes and futher again is Linnes
- also north of the Ljørdalen church is Ljørdalen farm/house and then north a bit is Bakken and Tecka

Tecka
Tekta is Ljørdalen's third oldest farm, called Lille Lørdalen. Built sometime before 1657. Bakken (Ljørdalen) was divided later. The stables of Tekta, Ljørdalen's oldest house, stand up by Bakken (Ljørdalen). The year is 1684.

See Bakken (Ljørdalen).

Ei tekt = fence/enclosure. Close by is Særnvadet, where Særnvegen crosses Ljøra. Tekta probably means that here the Swedes released their animals in an enclosure during an overnight stay on their journey west with nomadic herds.

a short pronunciation of the name Skåret ; a bit hard for me to hear it, even with headphones ... but ....
scar uh ; ar sounds to me to be a 'soft' 'a', as in scare; the 'uh', so: ' scar uh '

Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden of Trysil was the first user and got bygselseddel 17th June 1745.
[ bygsel: agreement for leasing land ]

It is written: "Skaaret was the old Lørdølers most excellent hunting grounds. There was sure to be [able to] hit moose, clean [?], bear and small game. This glory had cherished! When it is rumored that Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden would build there, went Ola at Torgal in Lørdalen [Ole Eriksen ?] Elverum to get the bailiff to prohibit this. But Otter came to Elverum before Ola and got his bygselseddel ". Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden also built or used pastures [sæter or seter] on Fregnsætra [Fregn mountain sæter] and Linne Sætra (South Linnes).

[?] clean - the norwegian word in the statement is "ren", but I'm not sure of the meaning. The word "renne" means 'run or running around', so this may be refering to moose, bear running around or 'all around' ???

* I can't find a definition for "old Lørdølers" in any on-line Norwegian or Danish dictionary. Einar Haugen's Norwegian-English dictionary translates Lørd = Lørdag, meaning Saturday; and has lørdag/vask/en as Saturday washing (page 254). "døl" translates to 'mountaineer'. So this may refer to Saturday hunters or possibly, old mountaineers who hunt on Saturdays ??? [ 10 Mar 2017 ]

http://gw.geneanet.org/brynjulf?lang=no&pz=tor&nz=langballe&ocz=0&p=otter&n=skaret

- much of Brynjulf's information is likely derived from the Trysilboka. Brynjulf has copied or quoted Trysilboka on the Notes section of many pages (Notator). Of course Trysilboka is written in Norwegian. I have attempted some basic translation (using Google translate and various dictionaries), but likely the translation is not always very accurate.

(1).

Both of the above websites (geni.com links to Brynjulf's data) record that Otter Olsen Skaaret was from Hammersgaarden (and likely commonly known as Gjermundshaugen). Hammersgarden or Hammersgård is in the area known as Øver-bygda and is about 5 kms or so north of Trysil

Note: Brynjulf Langballe database ... does not ... included desendants for ... Otter Ottersen Skåret 1736-1807

Trysilboka, vol 2, page 477

Hammersgård, gnr. 36, bnr. 1 (the 1950 Matrikkel, Matrikkelutkastet av 1950, notes a total of 172 bruks)

Both of the above websites record that that Otter Olsen Skaaret's (Hammersgaarden) father was Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgård (1679-1756) and he lived/settled/worked in the Øverbygda area north of Trysil. Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgård's father was Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgård (1634-1715) 6587,6590,6591
