Also see my translation of Trysilboka, pages 475 & 480 (titled, Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard and son, Ole Gjermundsen Hammersgard; 10 Mar 2017) and my article/research notes titled, Otter Olsen Skaaret, also known as Otter Olsen Hammersgaarden (1705 - ) and completed 10 Mar 2017

Date of Death: there is no clear evidence that Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard died in 1715, but this is the mostly likely senario. A couple of the FTs record his death "before 1715" and others such as geni.com FT records 1715. Thus, I will record on my Legacy database, his death as "about 1715"

It appears that Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard, b 1634 came to Hammersgaarden from the farm søndre Sørby. It is likely that initially there was one Sørby farm, but later it was divided into north and south Sørby.

The first users at Hammersgaard was around 1624 which appears to have been a part the farm Sørby, possibly south Sørby. Hammarsgaard itself was divided into 2 by 1664: Torgal had one half and Ole Gjermundsen and the other half. However, Ole Gergmundsen's half seems to have also been split into 2 - one part for Ole and the other part for his son, Gjermund Olsen, b 1703, whose part became known as Gjermundshaugen.

Note: the early records are confusing ... Trysilboka, vol 2 has some information that is not clearly stated or the difficulty could be in the translation. [14 Jul 2025]

- link from , email 31 Aug 2023 [search date of email rather than the name - Barbara Wollak who had sent this to me
- used tax, court and census records in the 1600s ...... also very similar to the Trysilboka, Vol 2, page 467-477 ...... but note that some of these records have many gaps - Rueben D Grue

notes: regarding Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaarden:
.. Hammarsgaard was named after Rauhammer mountain raising behind the farm
.. Hammarsgaard initially was a part of the farm Sorby
.. appears that the first farmer on Hammersgaard was Ola or Oluf who also had a part of Sorby in 1621 - he was living at Sorby ...
the tax records name other people in 1634 [Martin or Morten]; Torgal; Torgeir Hammergaard;
.. in the census of 1664, there are 2 farmers at Hammersgaard - Torgal age 38 and Gjermund age 30 [b 1634 ?] [this would be 'our'
Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard] ... it appears that by this time, 1664, Hammersgaard has been divided by two.
.. Gjermund continues to pay taxes on half of the farm in 1675

.... the above only notes that Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard b 1634 was married, but wife is unknown, and he had 4 children:
- Ola, 1679-1756 1st married to Gjerturd Persdatter - ancestors of our Skaaret family in the northern part of Ljørdalen
- 2nd married to Gullaug Jensdatter West Nordby
- Per, 1681-1741, m. Aaste Bjørnsdatter
- Gjermund, 1682-1752, m. Marte Bjørnsdatter
- Engebret, [Embret] b ? d. ?, m. Gjertrud Persdatter

**** NOTE .... this does not mention that Gjermund Halvorsen Hammersgaard had another earlier marriage/relationship and had a son from this relationship - Halvor Gjermundsen Hammersgaard b 1654. See the Geneanet FT, Granseth ....

https://gw.geneanet.org/brynjulf?lang=no&pz=tor&nz=langballe&p=gjermund&n=hammersgard
- records 4 children, including 'our' Ola Gjermundsen Hammersgaard [see point 2]
- nothing on son Gjermund or Embret or Halvor

- notes: Trysilboka bind II, side 476, Hammersgård, gnr 36, bnr 1:

When Hammersgaard has been divided into two uses cannot be determined. The first time two users are mentioned is in the 1664 census: Torgal age 38 [cal. birth 1626] and Gjermund age 30 - calculated birth would be 1634
..... and the half that Gjermund uses is what becomes the main household [for Hammersgaarden].

Gjermund Halvorsen or his wife, one does not know where they are from. According to the census, he was born around 1634, and at that time there were several people with the name Halvor in Trysil who could be his father, including in southern Sørby. A later builder came from here on the other half of the farm, and there is much to suggest that Gjermund Halvorsen was also from here. As mentioned, he uses half the farm, 1 hide, 1 1/2 calf skins and 10 whitefish, and in 1675 he pays 2 2/3 settings of barley in corn tithes. He has a mill in Grindbekken together with the user on the other part of the farm.

page 480 .... Slekter on Hammersgaard and Hauge ..... 1st grouping ... re: Gjermund Halvorssen Hammersgaard, b 1634,
av barn vet vi om = of children we know about .... same as above
notes: that the 4th child, as Engebret .... Bygedbok for Engerdal usesd the given name as "Embret"

Slektor on Hammersgaard og Haugen
I. Gjermund Halvorsen b. ca 1634, wife unknown. Of children we know of:
1) Ola 1679- 26/9 1756 g. 1. m. Gjertrud Persdatter, 2nd m. Gullaug Jensdatter west Nordby.
2) Per 1681-1741 g. m. Aaste Bjørnsdatter s. Sørby d. 2/10 1741 (to Sletten, south Sø rby) ... see page 508-511
3) Gjermund 1682-1752 g. m. Marte Bjørnsdatter s Serby (Oppigarn) b. and d. unknown (built in Heggeriset).
4) Engebret, aka, Embret, b- and d. unknown g. m. Aaste Olsdatter (built in Heggeriset).
... see, Bygebok for Engerdal, vol 1, page 84

... Note: Slektor on Hammersgaard og Haugen continues on page 481 son Ole b 1679, and then Ole's descendants, etc

.. also ... no mention of Halvor Gjermundsen Hammersgard, b about or maybe bet 1765 and 1768 ... so Halvor Gjermundsen was older that the children outlined above and gives some credence to the idea that Gjermund Halvorssen Hammersgaard, b 1634 was married eariler or at least had a relationship as early as age 20 in 1654 and that marriage's son Halvor Gjermundsen b 1654

3. b.

See: Geneanet FT, Granseth \endash Sektnan - Basseætte, does record son Halvor b about or maybe bet 1765 and 1768 and the owner of this FT notes: Halvor Gjermundsen is "Not mentioned in the Trysilboka (vol 2 - p, 480) regarding the children of Gjermund Halvorsen b 1634, but is mentioned [in the Bygebok for Engerdal, vol 1, page 125] as half-brother to Gjermund and Embret Gjermundsønner who built Heggeriset."

also, 1 entries above Gjermund and 1 entry below Gjermund
... above is Torgier, age 38 years, cal. born 1626; just below his name another entry - at first I thought this referrs to another person, but on 27 Aug 2025, I believe the entry is the tax amount owing or to be paid.... the same 'phrase is repeated a number of times, ".... then, 1½ ...?

[1 above and 1 below Gjermund's name, but I can't make out the handwriting]
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/35501/17 ... image 17, page 10-11 ……. 8 Jan 2025

... above Hammersgaard there are 2 entries for the farm Sörbÿe, but really difficult to make out the names
