- the name recorded on the 1902 Plat is R.A. Rusten - so this must be the son Richard, but it is the quarter that Anders R Rusten and Marit first had homesteaded - Anders and Marit are recorded in the 1905 MN State census, along with Richard and his daugther,
AND on the NE¼ of Sec 6, 159.45 acres is owned by the "Rusten Bros." - likely Richard and Nils .. note buildings on the east side of the NE part of the quarter on the NW¼ of Sec 14

.. a school is noted on the east boundary of the NE¼ on Sec 8
.. Saron Lutheran Church and cemetery is noted on NE of sec 14
...... Then Sorum Church closed on January 3, 1912
- this cemetery is sometimes referred to as the Wold Cemetery in old obituaries. Sorum Synod Congregation was organized in 1885 by O.T. Wold, Ole Dovery, P.N. Sevelrud and Hans O. Lee who served as trustees. This congregation held their meetings in the schoolhouse in Sec. 8. In 1909 most of the families moved to Canada and the congregation was left with only four families. These four were Henry Anderson, Ole Dovery, O.T. Wold and Hans O. Lee. The church closed in January of 1912.

* this is a bit different entry ... it appears that he was in the area as early as Jul 1880 and it appears that he was or did file an entry for the land... but according to the website below, Anders and family may have been "squarters" and then in 1886 formallize the land under the homestead act. ????

Badger Twp, Polk Co, ... some interesting details about the area with some history... a summary and breakdown of 1900 census - for example that 72 head of households out of a total of 91, 79.12 % were born in Norway ... and, "After Minnesota statehood, although the area remained unsurveyed and closed to settlement, some squatters may have encroached into the territory of Badger Township as permanent settlers before 1880. The township was not opened for settlement until 1883, when as part of the "Thirteen Towns" of eastern Polk County it was finally surveyed as a township and made available for homestead under the Homestead Act."

The family also used the last name "Rosten". Anders was born 9 Jul 1831 in Tufsingdalen, Hedmark, Norway to Rasmus Amundsen Røsten and his wife, Ingeborg Olsdatter Faemundsenden [Femunds]. He married Marit Svendsdatter Nygaard on 30 Jun 1861. The family emigrated about 1880 to Minnesota. Anders died 5 Jul 1905 in Polk Co., MN.

Thus, ........ Gjertrud's mother married Ramsus Amundsen on Sept 1830. But it is not clear where Ingeborg and Gjertrud lived from 1824 to 1830. Did they lived in the Femunds area or were they living at Rosten???
From about age 5 or 6, Gjertrud/Gjartrud and her mother would have been living at Ramsus Amundsen's house.
