Based on the differing dates, no conclusive birth date can be assigned. Therefore, on the Legacy database, I have used his birth as 'between 1750-1754'.

There is no convincing evidence indicating the parents of Esten Olsen Kotmo. The Norway Parish Registers include two individuals with the name Esten Olsen with differing birth dates and differing parents. The marriage record for Esten Olsen and Pernille Olsdatter with a residence of M Tolgenslie suggest that that Marie Tollan's information is possibly more accurate (Digitarkivet - Tolga Ministerialbok, 1786-1814, Vigde I Tolga prestegjeld).

At present I am using the information from Holly Tomren; therefore I am using the parents of Esten Olsen Kotmo as Ole Esten (Båtmann) and Guri Simensdatter Hulbækdal - Grue, with a surety level of #1, marginal evidence. It is clear that further research is needed.

There is convincing evidence that the parents of Ole Olsen Berg was Ole Esten Kotmo and Marit Eriksdtr Berg. Therefore, I have included this information on my Legacy database with a surety level of #3, almost certain conclusion.

Ole had a relationship with Marit Eriksdtr Berg, daughter of Erik Olsen Berg and Magnhild Jonsdtr Grue, in Tolga, Hedmark, Norway.⁹⁰⁷ (Marit Eriksdtr Berg was born in 1799 in Tolga, Hedmark, Norway ⁹⁰⁹, baptized on 27 Jan 1799 in Tolga, Hedmark, Norway,⁹⁰⁹ died on 28 Jan 1883 in Bergen Twp, Mcleod Co, Minnesota, United States ^910,911 and was buried in Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, McLeod Co, Minnesota, United States.)
