Research Notes:
Summary:
Inger or Ingri Olsdatter was my 4th great-grandmother [my direct ancestor line to Lars Mikkelson, b 1830]. Ingri was born 1759 in Røros parish in Norway. Her parents were Ole Olsen Dybdal and Anne Eriksdatter Langen. Her father died when Ingri was about 8 years old. Most likely Ingri, her sisters and mother lived in the town of Røros.
Ingri/Ingrid's mother, Anne Eriksdatter is noted as living at Kirkegaden in the 1801 Census. Kierkegaden was also known as Kjerkgata [hus. no. 51] and was located within the town of Røros. In the Røros-Boka, [vol 3 page 38 at the bottom], "Ole Olsen Dydalen [1728-1767] was living at hus. [house] no 59 along with his wife, Anne [1735-1808], and daughters, Gjertrud b 1758, Inger b 1759, Lusie b 1764 and died the same year, and Lusie b 1766 [she also had died in 1766]. None of the daughters remained in Røros, and after their mother died, the estate was purchased by Jokum Ellensen Begamger".
Note that Anne Eriksdatter died in 1808. Her daughter Inger/Ingri would have been about age 49, and note that Inger was married in 1797. According to the Bygebok for Engerdal [vol 3, page 201-205], Inger Olsdatter lived with her aunt Ingeborg Eriksdatter [1835-1811] and Hans Jensen Syl at the farm Sylen east of lake Femund and close to the Swedish border. However, this source is not clear when Inger came to live with aunt Ingeborg. The Bygebok implies that Hans Jensen and Ingeborg Eriksdatter were in their 70's when they took Inger in, but that would mean that the year was around 1800. But Inger Olsdatter was already married in 1797. It is more likely that Inger Olsdatter had come to live with her aunt Ingeborg and Hans Jensen much earlier, possibly shortly after the death of Inger's father, Ole Olsen Dybdal who died in 1767 when Inger was about 7-8 yrs old.
On 23 Jul 1797, Ingri/Ingrid was married to Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal [1770-1828]. Ingri and Lars lived at the house/farm Grúedal, but as I indicated on Lars' page, I do not know the exact location. Grúedal possibly was at or near Femundshytta, but more likely a house/cottage at the farm Sylen.
Ingri/Ingrid Olsdatter and Lars Mortensen had one child, Ingeborg Larsdatter, born in 1798. I have not found any further children. Ingri died in 1816. Lars Mortensen died 1828. Inger died in 1816 and her death record notes "Lars Mortensen Sÿls hustra" [as in Inger's mother's estate record, Lars Mortensen name is noted with a reference to "Syl", likely meaning residence as Sylen].

Caution: .. the spelling of given names and in some cases patronymic names varies from source material to source material. .. the given name Inger has a few variations - Ingri, Ingebor, Ingeborg ... in my materials I have used Inger and Ingri interchangeable .. for the most part, the use of surnames in Norway was quite unusual ... individuals were often known by their given name, their patronymic name and in some cases with the name of the house or farm or district that they were living ... Family Trees often use the individuals house, farm, or district as a surname, but that is not always correct ... and many of the Norwegian Bygeboks [farm histories that were written in the mid 1940-1970 era] often refer to individuals with the house, farm, or district name. .... in my materials I often refer to a persons house, farm, or district like a surname, but others times only with the given and patronymic name, although I often include spelling variations and other names that a person was known by ... on my database, alternate names are recorded as 'aka' - also known as .. the Norway parish registers and more commonly in the Bygeboks, place for houses or farms, lakes, rivers, mountains are often recorded... I have tried to determine where individuals were living, but that is often a challenge since I have only found 'more modern maps' on the internet .. in the 1700s and 1800s and even into the mid-1950s, place names were often spelled differently and in some cases are no longer in use on more modern maps .. in my writing and materials I have used square brakets [ ] to insert added information to a source material .. I have use OCR recognition, google docs, and then google translate [sometimes ChatGPT] ... for the most part, this provides fairly accurate account of the Norwegian document ... But, I don't speak, read, or write Norwegian and so some nuances and local phrases that I can't account for ..
Discussion and Research
a. The first reference to Ingri Olsdatter that I found was from the Bygebok for Engerdal, vol 2, page 202, 203:
".. It was here [at the farm Sylen] that Hans Jensen Syl from Herdal around 1766 built his mountain home. He was married this year to Ingeborg Eriksdatter from Langen, just north of Femund. She is the sister of Ole Eriksen Langen at Ryen by Femund smelting house ..." and further, "...Hans [Jensen] Syl and Ingeborg [Eriksdatter] who are in their "seventies" and they have taken in her niece Ingri Olsdatter, who was married in 1797 to Lars Mortensen Holbekkmoen, Tolga. Their daughter, Ingeborg Larsdatter, was married in 1826 to Mikkel Nilsen Femundhytte... "
To briefly summarize the facts from the above: .. Ingri Olsdatter's aunt was Ingeborg Eriksdatter from Langen who was born about 1734/1735 .. Ingeborg Eriksdatter's father was Erik Olsen Langen who died in 1744 .. Ingeborg Eriksdatter was a sister to Ole Eriksen Langen who was born about 1737
b. With the above facts, I researched the house/farm Langen. The farm Langen is written about in the Røros-boka, Vol 3 [Røros bygebok], pages 132 and 133 ... Langen nordre.
"Erik Olsen Langen was married to Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard, born 1705, died 1762. He [that is Erik] probably died in early 1744, because on 17/4 of that year a probate was held after him... The children were: Anne, 11 years old, [born abt 1733], Ingeborg, 9 years old, [born abt 1735] and Ole 7 years old [born abt 1737]. As an adult, Anne married Ole Olsen Dybdalen, Ingeborg with Hans Jenssen Syel and Ole with Karen Jonsdatter Rye[n]..."
So, if Ingri Olsdatter, born about 1761, was a niece to Ingeborg Eriksdatter [born abt 1735; married to Hans Jensen Syl], then Ingri's mother must have been Anne [Eriksdatter], born about 1733 ... . [NO ... ] or Ingri's father may have been Ole Eriksen, b about 1737. Of course, this is assuming that these were the only children of Erik Olsen Langen.
c. The Røros-boka also suggests that Erik Olsen Langen had a brother named Esten and they were the first builders in the area, but due to a court proceding they had do leave. This also suggests that Erik and Esten Olsen had come from the Berg farm (Bortistu) in Os. I don't believe that this is an accurate account and I have written extensely on this matter - see the page for the father of Erik and Esten Olsen Berg.
d. I had found another source for Erik Olsen Langen and Inger NIlsdatter Østgaard. This is a from a transcription of the estate/probate records [Skifteprotcol] - the transcription was completed by Astrid Ryen [see, https://docplayer.me/183100093-Skifter-roros.html#show_full_text ... and my document "Skrifter Røros" mostly covering the estate for the Erik Olsen Langen and immediate family members.
.. v. 105,106 "Erich Olsen Langen 15/4-1744 RB (1742-1756, page 208) The deceased Erik Olsen left behind his widow Inger Nielsdatter and the following common children: 1: Ole Eriksen 7 years, 2: Anne Eriksdatter 11 years, 3: Ingeborg Eriksdatter 9 years."
.. v. 29 then the estate for daughter Anne Eriksdatter ... .. Anne Eriksdatter, Ole Dybdal's Widow 1808* RB (1797-1813, page 555) The deceased Anne Eriksdatter left behind the following children: 1. Gjertrud Olsdatter 50 years old, lives at home in the deceased's home [her parents house], her guardian is Ole Thomassen 2. Ingrid Olsdatter, married to Lars Mortensen Sÿhl, lives at Femunden, **** 3. Ingeborg Olsdatter, married to Jørgen Johnsen Hougen.
.. Conclusion: the parents of Inger Olsdatter were Ole Olsen Dybdal and Anne Eriksdatter [Langen]
.... so I looked at the death/burial records
d. Death/burial records:
Ole Eriksen Langen, died Feb 1807, buried on 8 Feb 1807, at age 73 yrs .... thus, a calculated birth: 1734 Røros parish no. 681A06 Deaths/burials, 1806 - 1816, page 354, no 5 on 1st side https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16222/87
Anne Eriksdatter, wife of Ole Dÿbdalen, died Oct 1808 buried on 30 Oct 1808 at age 73 ... thus a calculated birth: 1735 Røros parish no. 681A06 Deaths/burials, 1806 - 1816, page 362, no 67 on 1st side https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16222/91
Ingeborg Eriksdatter Langen, wife of Hans Jensen Sÿhl, died Oct 1811 buried on 6 Oct 1811 at age 78 ... thus a calculated birth: 1733 Røros parish no. 681A06 Deaths/burials, 1806 - 1816, page 372, no 45 on 1st side https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16222/96
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ note: the following is NOT the same person as Erik Olsen Langen .... this information refers to Erik Olsen Feragen **** ... Based on the different dates of birth when considering the age at death: this is wrong ......8 Feb 2025 Inger, born 11 Jan 1832 ... father Erik Olsen Feragen .... Røros parish register no. 681A03, Births, 1727 - 1766, page 31, no 10, 1st side [baptised 22 Jan 1832] https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16220/28 Ole, born 5 Dec 1734 ... father Erik Olsen Feragen .... Røros parish register no. 681A03, Births, 1727 - 1766, page 36, no 1, 1st side [baptised 6 Jan 1735] https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16220/34 Anne, born ????? ... I have reviewed births/baptisms from 1729 to 1739, or pages 27-46, and there is no person born with the given name of Anne and father Erik Olsen in the time frame BUT ....
Olava, born 3 Aug 1729 ... father Erik Olsen Feragen .... Røros parish register no. 681A03, Births, 1727 - 1766, page 28, no 10, 1st side [baptised 4 Sep 1729] https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16220/25
.. so, based on this study, is it likely that the person named Olava Eriksdatter b in 1729 is the same person that was also known as Anne Erikdsdatter .. so, it appears that ages noted on the burial records are off by a few years ... and birth years recorded on some Family Trees are not accurated. .. the name of the father "Erik Olsen Feragen" likely changed when Erik Olsen moved from the house/farm known as Feragen to the house/farm known as Langen and from then on, he was known as "Erik Olsen Langen" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e. confirmation: on 5 Feb 2025, I reviewed confirmations for Røros parish [egister no. 681A03, Confirmations, 1727 - 1766] .. BUT the list of individuals for each year only records the given name, patronymic name, and sometimes a house or farm name .. no other information is noted - no age, birth, or parents .. thus this list of names is not helpful
f. marriage records: are listed as under the title "Engaged", but does record marriage date [copulerede=married], name of male and then female; also sponsors, usually 2 people recorded

g. Children of Anne Eriksdatter, b abt 1733 and Ole Olsen Dÿbdalen [born 1729:
1. Gjertrud Olsdatter, b 18 Mar 1858 Ole Dÿbdalens datter, Giertrud Røros parish register no. 681A03 "Births/Baptisms", 1727 - 1766, page 109, no 28, 3rd col https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16220/106

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ingrid Olsdatter, married to Lars Mortensen Syhl, lives at Femunden, **** ****
.. Ingri Olsdatter's aunt was Ingeborg Eriksdatter from Langen [b 1735], and that Ingeborg Eriksdatter died in 1811 at age 78 years and calculated birth would be about 1734. Ingeborg Eriksdatter's father was Erik Olsen Langen who died in 1744 . When Erik Olsen Langen died in 1744, Ingeborg Eriksdatter was remarried to Esten Jacobsen Langen. Ingeborg Eriksdatter a sister to Ole Eriksen Langen [born about 1737], according to the Bygebok for Engerdal. ... the above information fits basically with the Røros boka, vol 3 , Vol 3, p 132, 133
.. Now, if Ingri Olsdatter b 1761 was a niece to Ingeborg Eriksdatter, then Ingri was likely the daughter of Ole Eriksen, born abt 1837 and the son of Erik Olsen Langen. My reasoning is that: Ingri Olsdatter was a niece to Ingeborg Erikdatter; Ole Eriksen was Ingeborg's brother and Ingri, b in 1761, has the patronymic Olsdatter, that is, the daughter of Ole. .... NO, wrong sibling above
