Research Notes:
Summary:
Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard, 1705-1762, was my 6th great grandmother [my direct ancestor line of Lars Mikkelson, b 1830]. Inger was born on the Ustu Østgaard farm in the Os-Dalsbygda area of Tolga Parish. Her father was Nils Christofersen Østgaard and her mother was Ingri Ingulfsdatter Ous from/på Ustu Østgård (Usen, Østgården øvre). Although I have some family ancestors from the Østgaard farm [see Mikkel Solandsen Østgaard research notes and page], I do not believe that Nils Christofersen, aka Nils Kristoffersen, was related to Mikkel Solandsen Østgaard.
Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard was first married to Erik Olsen Langen, sometime before 1733 [there is no record of their marriage since the first church records for Tolga Parish was in 1733. Inger Nilsdatter and Erik Olsen Langen lived at the farm Langen nordre in Røros parish [Langen is about 30 kms to the north east of the village of Os]. Inger Nilsdatter and Erik Olsen Langen had 3 children: Anne Eriksdatter, b 1733, Ingeborg Eriksdatter, b 1735, and Ole Eriksen Langen, b 1737. Note: see each of these three children's pages for descendant information.
Sometime in April 1744, Erik Olsen Langen died, although there is no record of a death/burial in either the Røros or Tolga parish records. But there is an Estate/probate record for Røros, that was read on 15 Apr 1744 [his death is likely close to the reading of the probate]. Inger's probate is also noted in the records for Røros; she died in 1762.
It should be noted that Inger Nilsdatter remarried after the death of her husband Erik Olsen Langen in 1744. That same year she was married to Esten Jakobsen Sund, 1718-1803. Esten Jakobsen later used the 'surname' Langen. Esten Jakobsen and Inger Nilsdatter had 2 children, Jakob Estensen Langen born in 1745 and Ingri/Ingrid Estensdatter Langen born in 1748. After Inger Nilsdatter died in 1762, Esten Jakobsen Sund/Langen re-married and had 6 children in his second marriage.
Note: I have not researched Inger Nilsdatter and Esten Jakobsen's 2 children. Nor have I researched Esten Jakobsen's children from his second marriage - these children appear to have used Langen as a surname.
See the research notes for each of Inger and Erik Olsen Langen's children.
notes written by Rueben D Grue, 4 Mar 2025; revised 16 Mar 2025 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. One of the first references to Ingeborg Eriksdatter that I found was from the Bygebok for Engerdal, vol 2, page 202, 203: [and subseqently, Ingri Olsdatter]
".. It was here [at the farm Sylen] that Hans Jensen Syl from Herdal around 1766 built his mountain home. He was married this year to Ingeborg Eriksdatter from Langen, just north of Femund. She is the sister of Ole Eriksen Langen at Ryen by Femund smelting house ..." and further, "...Hans [Jensen] Syl and Ingeborg [Eriksdatter] who are in their "seventies" and they have taken in her niece Ingri Olsdatter, who was married in 1797 to Lars Mortensen Holbekkmoen, Tolga. Their daughter, Ingeborg Larsdatter, was married in 1826 to Mikkel Nilsen Femundhytte... "
To briefly summarize the facts from the above: .. Ingri Olsdatter's aunt was Ingeborg Eriksdatter who was from Langen who was born about 1734/1735 .. Ingeborg Eriksdatter's father was Erik Olsen Langen who died in 1744 .. Ingeborg Eriksdatter was a sister to Ole Eriksen Langen who was born about 1737
b. With the above facts, I researched the house/farm Langen. The farm Langen is written about in the Røros-boka, Vol 3 [Røros bygebok], pages 132 and 133 ... Langen nordre.
"Erik Olsen Langen was married to Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard, born 1705, died 1762. He [that is Erik] probably died in early 1744, because on 17/4 of that year a probate was held after him... The children were: Anne, 11 years old, [born abt 1733], Ingeborg, 9 years old, [born abt 1735] and Ole 7 years old [born abt 1737]. As an adult, Anne married Ole Olsen Dybdalen, Ingeborg with Hans Jenssen Syel [most likely spelling, Syl] and Ole with Karen Jonsdatter Rye[n]..."
.. So, if Ingri Olsdatter, born about 1761, was a niece to Ingeborg Eriksdatter [born abt 1735 and who was married to Hans Jensen Syl], then Ingri's mother must have been either Anne [Eriksdatter], born about 1733 ... or Ingri's father may have been Ole Eriksen, b about 1737. Of course, this is assuming that these were the only children of Erik Olsen Langen.
The most compeling informaton on who the mother of Ingri Olsdatter is found in the probate records found through the work of Astrid Ryen [see, Skifter Røros https://docplayer.me/183100093-Skifter-roros.html#show_full_text ]

At the summer parliament in 1673, the bailiff had Anders Jemt summoned for a lease with Brynhild Tollevsdatter [must be the daughter of the first user/farmer, only named as Tollev]. Anders had now escaped [??]. On behalf of Brynhild, Kristoffer Østgarden answered and explained that she only owned a black heifer, 2 years old, and three sheep. But Brynhild had to pay the king a fine according to the law, 6 rdl., within half a month.
In July 1708, the brothers Esten and Nils made a contract with each other. Esten was to receive a certificate from Nils in exchange for transferring his inheritance rights to him, and their mother was to be supported until her death.

[ note that 'v' most likely stands for a paragraph in the actual record]
v. 105 - 106 ... Erich Olsen Langen 15/4-1744 RB (1742-1756, page 208) The deceased Erik Olsen left behind his widow Inger Nielsdatter and the following common children: 1: Ole Eriksen 7 years, 2: Anne Eriksdatter 11 years, 3: Ingeborg Eriksdatter 9 years. Present at the exchange were the children's paternal uncle Peder Olsen Vangrøften and the widow's brother Ingul Nielsen Østgaard. Both of these must be from Os. Erik Olsen and Inger Nielsdatter were not married in Røros, the children were not baptized there, and I do not find Erich Olsen registered as dead in the church register for Røros.
Inger Nilsdatter was married for the second time in 1744 in Røros church to Esten Jacobsen Sund, they had been betrothed in Dalsbygden's congregation.
Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard Esten Langen's widow was buried 25/4-1762, age 57 years. Esten Jacobsen was the son of Jacob Andersen Sund (deed 1744) and Gunnhild Jørgensdatter Valset. According to Rørosboka 3 page, the brothers Esten Olsen and Erik Olsen Berg [the use of the surname, Berg likley not correct] from Os had been given permission by the bailiff to settle at Storebeitet below Håsjøen in 1730. In 1735 they were asked to move, as they had entered the forest that Røros Verk had taken over. Erik Olsen moved the houses a short distance away, but otherwise stayed. According to the deed, the farm house stood on Røros Verk's land. I do not find Erik Olsen registered as dead in the KB for Os or Røros.
However, I have found two of Erik Olsen's children baptized in Os: Anne Eriksdatter in 1733 and Ingeborg Eriksdatter in 1735, they then lived at Femundsvigen. Inger Nilsdatter was from Utstu Østgård, daughter of Nils Kristoffersen and Ingrid Ingulsdatter (died 1730), BB for Os volume 1, page 329.
v. 119 -mid paragraph .... The first to settle on the Langen farm at the north end of Femunden were Erik Olsen and his wife Inger Nielsdatter, both from Os. There was a change after Erik Olsen Langen in 1744. At this time, Esten Jacobsen Sund was a servant on the farm, and he married the widow Inger Nielsdatter the same year. Esten Langen's wife Inger Nielsdatter Østgaard was buried on 25/4-1762 at the age of 57. Esten [Jacobsen] Langen was married for the second time on 6/7-1764 to Giertrud Olsdatter Korssjøen who was buried on Ascension Day 1799 at the age of 61 ½. Giertrud was baptized on 28/2-1740, her parents Ole Hansen Røraas and Giertrud Iversdatter Brynnilds were married on 22/7-1731. 10281,10285,10286,10287
Inger married Erik Olsen Langen. (Erik Olsen Langen was born between 1692 and 1700 in Tolga, Hedmark, Norway and died about 1744 in Langen nordre, Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway.)
