  Research Notes:

Farm: Ryen

The initial Ryen farm or house was at Femundshytta smelting site on the west side of lake Femund. The inital Ryen farm was a little south of the smelting complex, a little distance from the farm Jonasgård. The farm Bakken was further to the north of the smelting complex. [Bakken was the farm that Nils Mikkelsen, b 1765 took over from his father, Mikkel Larsen b 1729].
See the PDF document link on point 5 of my notepad text doc, Femund].

The 1801 Norway census records Ole Eriksen Langen and most of his children living at Fæmunds Hytteplads [place at Femund's smelter complex area]. Ole Eriksen Langen was married on the 13 Apr 1762 to Karen Joensdatter Ryen. Ole Eriksen Langen, b 1737 lived at the Femundshytta smelting complex; he died in 1807. Note that this Ole Eriksen Langen was a brother to Anne Eriksdatter Langen b 1733 and Ingeborg Eriksdatter b 1734/1735.

Femundshytta smelting complex closed in 1821-1822. Many of the workers at Femundshytta moved to the new smelting complex at Drevsjø. Some may have continued to live at Femundshytte but continued to work for the smelting complex at Drevsjø, but some also lived closer to Drevsjø.

Although the date is not known, Ole Eriksen Langen b 1737 and at least 2 of his sons, Jon and Erik also settled and built up a farm at Svukuriset - initially Svukuriset was a summer farm. The clearing of this farm likely started in the early 1790s, maybe earlier. According to the Bygebok for Engerdal [vol 2, pages 196-198] Ole and his sons farmed in the summer months and into the fall, growing hay etc for the farm Ryen at Femunds hytta.

Svukuriset is on the eastern side of lake Femund, and the Bygebok for Engerdal mentions that in the summer Jon and Erik had to walk to the north end of lake Femund and then south Femunds hytta. The Bygebok does not mention using a boat to cross lake Femund which would have made the journey much shorter. Svukuriset is about 5 kms inland from the eastern shore of lake Femund. By boat you could row east across the lake and come to the western shore of lake Femund near the current farm/village known as Jonåsvollen and from here it is about 10 kms north to the smelting complex at Femunds hytta.

Svukuriset was at some point divided into 2 parts, nordre Svukuriset and sondre Svukuriset. Jon Olsen Langen takes over nordre Svukuriset; Erik Olsen Langen, b 1770, takes over south Svukuriset, and their descendants continue to own the 2 Svukuriset farms.

Ole's birth/baptism in 1737 is a bit questionable. As Astrid Ryen notes in her transcription of the Estate/probate records [v. 105 and v. 106], the children of Erik Olsen Langen and Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard baptism records were not recorded in the Røros parish registers, but Astrid found the birth/baptism for Anne Eriksdatter and Ingeborg Eriksdatter in the Tolga parish registers [see their note ... I had reviewed births/baptisms using Marie Tollan's transcription in the Tolga parish register].

Ole's birth baptism is noted on the following link, https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/255/pd00000005436513
This records that Ole Ericksen was baptism at Ous church on 7 Apr 1737. However, there are a couple of issues with the record:

1]. Ole's father is recorded as Erick Fæmund and his residence is Fæmund. This is not a common recording for Erik Olsen Langen, but
it is still likely him. Fæmund is likely a general place name, rather than a specific farm, and most likely refers to him as working for
Femundshytte smelting house, on the west side of lake Femund
2]. Additional identifying information for the father is not recorded nor is the mother recorded [in any of these records]

Despite the issues, the witnesses to the baptisms provide clues that I think points to the record being that of Ole Eriksen Langen's birth/baptism. These clues are:
.. witness Maritt Østgaard - she was the wife of Ingvoll Østgaard with residence as ... Ingvoll Østgaard aka Ingulv Østgaard was a brother to Inger Østgaard, the mother of Ole Eriksen Langen [see Bygebok for Os, vol 1, pages 229 and 230]
.. witness Kirsten Vangryft - she was the wife of Peder Olsen Vangryft with residence as Vangryft .. I am confident that Peder Olsen was a brother to Erik Olsen Langen, the father of Ole Eriksen Langen [see Erik Olsen Langen's research notes].

Additionally, the geni.com FT [see Ole Eriksen Langen's mother's page] and the FT .... as well as family trees on Ancestry record his birth as 1737. [Geni.com FT
https://www.geni.com/people/Inger-%C3%98stgaard/6000000007329124002?through=6000000007328942527 ]
... BUT this geni.com FT also has included the information or maybe mis-information regarding Erik Olsen Langen and Erik Olsen Berg

There is one other record to note: Skifte or estate /probate ... v. 217 and v. 310
Skifter Røros https://docplayer.me/183100093-Skifter-roros.html#show_full_text
"... Ole Eriksen Langen was buried 8/2-1807 at the age of 73" ... this means, a calulated birth of 1734
.. this is from the burial record for Ole Eriksen Langen .... BUT I think that the recorded age at death is likely a mistake since the other information from above records birth as 173
