Research Notes:
Summary:
See my summary on his father for detail information. Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal b 1770 was also known as Lars Mortensen Holbekkmoen. I have a double relationship with Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal.
Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal is my 1st half cousin, 5 times removed. His father was Morten Simensen Hulbækdal [1723-1801]. Morten Simensen was a half-brother to my 4th great grandfather, Jon Simensen Grue, 1729-1807. Morten Simensen and Jon Simensen had the same father, Simen Mortensen, 1680-1752, but different mothers. Lars Mortensen is a 1st cousin through my direct Grue family line.
Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal is also my 4th great grandfather, through my Mikkelson direct family line - ancestors of Lars Mikkelson, born 1830.
Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal, b 1770 grew up his father's household at Mortensgård. Mortensgård was separated from the main Hulkbædal farm likely at the time of Lars' grandfather's death, Simen Mortensen born about 1680. This farm was also known Hulbækmoen, and around 1817 it was termed a "sub-farm" of Flatgaard.
Sometime around the age of 19 [after he was confirmed at age 18¾ years] he most likely moved to Røros parish [after 1789]. But it isn't clear if he moved to the town of Røros. What is more likely is that Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal moved to the are around Femundshytte, to the smelting house complex on the west side of lake Femund. On 23 Aug 1797, Lars Mortensen and Ingri Olsdatter Dahl were married in the Røros parish - but the exact location within Røros parish is not recorded. Lars was 27 years old when he was married; Ingri or Inger Olsdatter was about 37 years old.
Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal and Ingri are recorded in the 1801 census for Røros living at the residence or farm, Grúeldal [there are few spelling variations, such as Grúldal]. He is recorded as a giør at the Fæmunds hytte or smelter hut. I haven't been able to find a good translation for the word 'giør', but it may be a shorten form of the word "gjørtler" that means craftsman who casts copper metal [a type of brazier]. Ingri is recorded as his wife, and they have one daughter, Ingeborg born in 1798 and baptised in the Røros parish. But I'm not clear where Grúeldal is located - my guess is that is a part of, or a house on, the farm Sylen.
I have not found any other children born to Lars Mortensen and Ingri Olsdatter [I had viewed a number of pages up to about 1804-05 but did find anyother children in Røros birth/baptism volume .. reviewed pages in Feb-Mar 2025].

a. 1801 Census for Røros -- Lars Mortensen born 1770 married to Ingri Olsdatter, age 40 <1761> and child, Ingbor Larsdtr, age 3 <1798>; gard/hus, Grueldal; occupation as Giør brug til fæmunds hytte [ ? not sure what this means, but likely works at the copper smelter ]
- daughter Ingbor, bap 30 Sept 1798 (Røros Ministerialbok, 1798-1808, page 70-71, line 17 (2nd side); parents - Lars Mortensen Hulbexmo on Grueldal og Inger Olsdatter; witnesses - Ole Ericksen Langen, Jon Olsen Langen, Mittel [?] Jon Feragen .... - and Ingri's mother, Ingeborg Eriksdatter, age 66 .. https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/58444/47 ..... 1801 census on digitalarkivet ... scanned https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058444003125 .... 1801 census on digitalarkivet ... indexed .. indexed or scanned does not record a gard number of bruk number - BUT I suspect this was a house or part of a house on the farm Sylen

* remember... according to the Engerdal bygebok, Ingri was the niece of Ingeborg [who was married to Hans P Syl or Sylen]; Ingeborg parent's were Erik Olsen Langen and Inger Nilsdatter Østgaard and they were both born in the Dalsbygda area of Tolga parish -- see Ingeborg's parents pages

[ 9 Apr 2013 ]
- from Apr 2013 research I can't find any other information on Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal / Hulbechmoe / Hulbeckmoen / Hulbexmoen - no record of gard/hus of Grueldal in Røros 1838 Matrikkel or the name of Lars Mortensen or his wife - note - there is not someone by the name of Lars, father Morten, born in Røros 1769-1771, thus the Lars Mortensen born in Tolga is likely most accurate - note: no mention of Lars Mortensen, born 1770 in Tolgen by Ivar Sæter, or in the listing of burials; only page 80 (side 86) - Mortensgaarden - The first user/farmer was from Hulbækdal named Morten (hence, the name). After him, his son Per* went to Røros to work and has since build Pederslien. [ Den første bruger var Hublækdal og heg Morten (deraf navnet ). Efter ham hans søn, Per, som maattesælge til Røros verk, og som siden byggede i Pederslien ]
3. Conclusions:
- from the Norway Parish Registers, it is pretty clear that Lars Mortensen was a son to Morten Simensen Hulbækdal; this would make Jon Simensen Grue (1729-1807) a half-uncle to Lars, since Morten and Jon were half brothers - it is less certain, but it is most likely that Lars Mortensen moved to Røros; there he married Ingri Olsdtr Dahl in 1797 and that they had at least one child, Ingbor, born in 1798; Lars also worked at the smetler in Røros - unfortunately, I have not found any further any information on the family of Lars Mortensen - much research is required - * although Ivar Sæter (Tolgen) wrote that Morten's son, Per, moved to Røros it is likely he was referring to Lars; and it is likely that Per is the person who built up Pederslien
*** See Bygebok for Engerdal, page 205 ..... their daughter Ingeborg married Mikkel Nilsen who was the father of my 2nd great grandfather, Lars Mikkelson, b 1830 and died at Clay Co, MN
*** Klokkervang by Per Harold Grue, records that Lars Mortensen died as a child; however, there is not a burial record in Tolgen; - if his birth was 1770 then to have died as a child, his death would have to be before 1795-1790, but there is no burial for Lars Mortensen for this time period
**** 25 Jan 2025 .... searched Ancestry ...... Lars Mortensen Hulbækdal - no hits

Noted events in his life were:
1. Residence - 1801, 1801, Røros, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway. 4898 Lars Mortensen and Ingri are recorded at the farm/house Grúeldal [there are few spelling variations, such as Grúldal]. I have not been able to determine the exact location of the farm/house. In the 1801 census, the place is recorded amongst other places at Elgaaen or Elgå. So this is likely, but of couse it is likely he worked at Femundshytta, the location for Femunds smelting house, and would have had to be a boat across the lake Femund or walk on the ice and snow in the winter.
Lars married Inger Olsdatter, daughter of Ole Olsen Dybdal and Anne Eriksdatter Langen, on 23 Jul 1797 in Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway.4895 (Inger Olsdatter was born on 27 Dec 1759 in Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway 4898,4899, baptized on 3 Feb 1760 in Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway, died in Oct 1816 in Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway 4900 and was buried on 13 Oct 1816 in Røros, Sør Trondelag, Norway 4900.)
