Anders Svensson Bollman

  Research Notes:

Summary: Anders Svenson Bollman was born in 1824 at the farm/village of Långerud-Östmark, Östmark parish in Värmland län [county] in Sweden. His parents were Sven Svensson (b 1797) and Marit Andersdotter (b 1798). Sven Svensson was a brother to my grandmother, Helja Svensdotter (1800-1860). Helja was married to Anders Stephansson (1791-1871) Hotakka. Anders Stephansson's descendants lead to my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret b 1890.

Anders Svenson Bollman was married in Östmark parish in 1845 to Ingeborg Halstensdotter (b 1817). In Sweden, Anders' family lived at the farm/village of Bollsjöhöjden. In Apr 1864, Anders and his family left Sweden for North America. In the US, Anders used the surname of "Bollman", likely based on the farm/village that he lived at in Sweden. In 1866 he had obtained a homestead entry in Stockholm Township, Wright County, Minnesota. At this time, the homestead was likely heavily treed and so much of the he would have spent clearly land for crops and building of a house/cabin and other out buildings. He received title (patent) to his homestead in 1872. Anders died at the age of 61 in 1886. His son John Bollman (b 1851) took over the homestead. His other children lived nearby in Stockholm Twp and some living nearby Collinwood Twp in Meeker Co. See their reseach pages for details.

Anders Bollman's father, Sven Svensson (b 1797) had emigrated in 1868.

BUT ALL have the wrong marriage date: ALL used the Ancestry, Sweden Marriages index collection: BUT Ancestry's collection used the "license date" and not the marriage date - thus I reviewed the marriage volumes to determine the actual date.

Note the most of the family members used the surname "Bollman" in the US.

** all the ancestry Family Trees record the Anders' marriage as 8 Jun 1845 - BUT this is the date of the marriage licence. Clicking on the source information, links to Ancestry's collection, "Sweden, Select Marriages, 1630-1920" and this also records the date of the marriage license. The actual date of marriage was 6 Sep 1845. By looking at the actual marriage records, the priest mostly records the date of the marriage license or announcement, then the names, then the individuals age, then a column that I am uncertain of the purpose, then the column for the Marriage or "Vigde" [from Lysnings och vigselbok, Östmark, volume CI:3, 1821-1860].

I have made this same mistake, but I am surprised that company of Ancestry has done the same thing, and thus it appears that the whole collection may be wrong. I did report this issue to Ancestry on 18 Sep 2021.

A person must check the column headings and in Östmark parish, often you have to go back a few pages, to find the headings for the parish record.
