Sven Svensson

Summary: Sven Svensson's father was Sven Nilsson (1766-1855) who was my 4th great grandfather. Sven Svensson (b 1797) was a brother to Helja Svensdotter (1800-1860), my 3rd great grandmother. She is a direct line ancestor through my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret (married to Lars T Grue)

Sven Svensson (b 1797) was my 3rd great granduncle. In 1868, Sven Svensson and his second wife, Katrina, left Östmark parish and emigrated to Wright Co, Minnesota. He was 72 years old when he left Sweden. It is likely that he went to live with his son, Anders Svensson (b 1824). Anders Svensson used the family surname of Bollman in the US. The Bollman surname likely is derived from Anders' wife's family farm in Sweden, known as Bollsjöhöjden.

There is not a lot of direct evidence that Sven Svensson (b 1797) used the surname of Bollman in Minnesota, but it is likely.

... Death: Sven's date of death is not certain. Many Family Trees (FTs), including the Familysearch FT, record his death as 30 Apr 1884. However, none of the FTs record any source information. Thus, the above date of death is not verified. Sven is recorded living with his daughter, Gertrud (Olson) and family in the 1880 US Census, but he is not recorded with her in the 1885 MN State Census. I have not found a burial record for him or his wife.

The only reasonable conclusion is that he died between Jun 1880 and Jun 1885.

As indicated below, Sven was married 2 times. His first wife died in 1836 in Sweden. His second wife's death is also uncertain, but we know that she and Sven left for North America in 1868. I have found Sven recorded in some US records, but not Katrina.

See above. As indicated above, son of Sven Nilsson [b 1766] was Sven Svensson, born in 1797. Sven Svensson was married twice, with his first wife Marit dying 1836. Sven Svensson and Marit had 5 children. In 1840 Sven Svensson married Katrina Olsdotter [b 1803] and they had 3 children.

In 1868, Sven Svensson and his second wife, Katrina, left Östmark parish and emigrated to Wright Co, Minnesota. Two of their children, Olof and his family emigrated in 1880 to Wright Co, MN. In the US Olof and his children used the surname, Bollman. Olof had 8 children. Sven and Katrina's daughter Gertrud and her family emigrated in 1869, to Meeker Co. She was married to Sven Olson [1844-1892] and they had 7 children.

Sven Svensson [b 1797] and Katrina's oldest son, Nils Svensson [1841-1891] stayed in Östmark. However, 2 of Nils Svensson's [1841] grandsons, Nils Gottfrid Nilsson, b 1897, emigrated to Meeker Co, MN in 1916, and Karl Edmund Nilsson, b 1902] emigrated to the Minneapolis area in 1924. Both used the surname Nelson in the US. Both Nils Gottfrid and Karl Edmund were married and had children. Note that I have not entered the names of the children of Nils or Karl.

Another daughter of Sven Svesson [1797] and his first wife Marit [1798] was Marit Svensdotter [1832-1907]. Marit Svensdotter was married to Hans Hendricksson [1825-1892]. 3 of their children emigrated to Minnesota. Son Nils Hanson [1866-1915] emigrated in 1892 and then returned to Sweden in 1899, and then returned back to MN in 1904. Nils was not married. Daughter Tilda [1869-1959] emigrated in 1888 to Marshall Co, MN. She was married to Gustav Anderson [1859-1933] and they had 5 children. Marit Svensdotter's daughter, Ida [b in 1874, died unknown] had emigrated in 1892 and then returned to Sweden in 1899, and then returned back to MN in 1904. I have not found any further information on Ida.
