Summary: from Östmark parish [see reseach notes for Nils Nilsson b 1832 and Marit Persdotter, b 1839]
written, 26 Aug 2022

The Östmark parish priest confuses 2 people named Marit Persdotter, one b in 1839 and married to Nils Nillson, and the other Marit Persdotter, b in 1837. Marit (b 1837) leaves for North America in 1866. It appears that Marit (b 1837) leaves her baby the family with of Jön Jönsson (b 1813), and he his son was the father of Karin Persdotter, b 1861. Karin's parents were Marit Persdotter (b 1837) and Per Jönsson (b 1843). However they were NOT married.

Marit Persdotter b 1839, appears to be taking care of Karin, b 1813. Around 1864, Marit b 1839 becomes the 2nd wife of Nils Nilsson born 1832, and it appears that Nils Nilsson and Marit Persdotter (b 1839) "informally adopt" Karin, b 1861.

Karin continues to live with Nils Nilsson and Marit Persdotter (b 1839). Karin's father, Per Jönsson (b 1843),
lives with Per's father (Jöns Jönsson) until about 1867 when the church records note that he was married on 22 Apr 1867 to Maria Johansdr (b 1843) and they had a son, Jon August, b 1868 [AI:23, page 742].

One other thing. Marit Persdotter b 1837 and Per Jönsson b 1843 were 1st cousins.
Per Jönsson eventually marries as indicated above and has a number of children [see AI:27, p. 73].

Östmark (S) AI:19 (1860-1863), Page 470, Rundsjön [mid page]
pig Marit Persdotter, b 1 Oct 1837 at Gämmaltäppen; came from page 34 in 1860
Östmark (S) AI:18 (1860-1861) Page 34, Gämmaltäppen
- Marit Persdotter, b 1 Oct 1837 is living with her mother, Gertrud Jönsdotter (b 1800) and her stepfather,
Erik Jönsson b 1821 [in the US his surname was "Modig"]
- Marit moves to page 470 in 1860 - but on the right hand column "Per Jönsson + 1843" ???

BUT the above record is confusing, since there isn't any futher note of Marit, b 1837
On 25/26 Aug 2022, I was researching Nils Nilsson (b 1832) who was the father of Erik Nilsson b 1858 [in the US, Erick was known with the surname "Lofgren". Nils Nilsson is recorded on page 494 of vol AI:21. On this page Nils is recorded with his 2nd marriage to Marit Persdotter b 1839, and then a couple of lines down, oä Karin Persdotter b 20 Mar 1861. When I first saw this, I wondered if Karin was the daughter of Marit Persdotter, b 1839. This Marit had come from page 707 in 1864. On page 707, Marit Persdotter (b 1839) and oä Karin b 1861 are recorded. I then looked up the birth record for Karin Persdotter, b 20 Mar 1861 [CI:5, image 7 no 20]. Karin's parents are recorded as drång Per Jönsson and Marit Persdotter, age 24 [this age would mean her birth would be around 1837]. The location of birth is noted to be Kläggstranden with a page reference of 673.
Marit returns to her mother's home in 1861, Gämmaltäppen. In 1863 her mother and her 2nd husband, Erik Jönsson [Modig] leave for North America.

Östmark (S) AI:21 (1861-1865) Page 673, Kläggstranden
Marit Persdotter, b 1 Oct 1837 at Gämmaltäppen ....... she moves in 1861 to page 50
oä Karin Persdotter, b 20 Mar 1861 ........ and right column comments, "fadr Per Jönsson"

Östmark (S) AI:20 (1861-1866) Page 50, Gämmaltäppen
Erik Jönsson b 15 Sep 1851 at Fäbacken [almost looks like the patronmyic is "Jänsson"]
Gertrud Jönsdotter, b 1800, at Kläggstranden
Olof Persson, b 1842 [fadr Per Jönsson, died 1843]
Marit Persdotter, b 1 Oct 1837 ... on right comment column, appears she marries BUT there is no marriage record
and likely is a mistake or she had planned to marry and then didn't
.... Marit moves or is recorded again on page 400 in 1865, "Lösdrivers" [not assigned] - 4th person from the top
.... Marit moves to North America 13 Apr 1866

Summary: [in the US]

Maria Persdotter, b in 1837, was married to John Monteith but he died before 1895. Around this time, she started to use the name "Maria Moody". She continued farming in Rockford Twp in Wright Co until at leat 1910. It seems that she lived with a great nephew (see 1920 US Census, Bernard Bonstrom) and died in 1925, at Buffalo, MN. Note that in 1895 and 1905 MN State Census she is the only person listed [no other person is recorded in the household] and in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 US Census she is recorded as a "Widow".
