Research Notes:
Summary: [11 Apr 2021]
Gertrud Jönsdotter was born on 28 Dec 1800 in Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden, and died on 15 Aug 1881 in Buffalo, Wright Co, MN. Gertrud's FFN (Finnish Family Name) was Gertrud Jönsdotter Hotakka [thus, Erik and Gertrud were distant cousins]. Gertrud's grandfather was Jöns Johansson Hottaka (1728-1784) and he was my 5th grandfather. Her ancestors lead to one of the early settlers at the farm Arnsjön around 1650. Her ancestors initially had come to Värmland, Sweden from Finland. The Finnish Family name was "Hotakka". My connection is through my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret, born in 1890, in Sweden.
Gertrud's was first married in 1819 to Per Jönsson (1796-1842) and they had 7 children, one dying as an infant.
Gertrud remarried on 28 Dec 1845 in Östmark to Erik Johansson who was born on 15 Sep 1821 in Östmark, Sweden and died on 18 Apr 1878 in Buffalo Twp, Wright Co. Erik Johansson (Modig) and Gertrud did not have any children. They left Östmark parish for Minnesota on 19 Jan 1863. Shortly after their arrival in Wright Co, MN, Erik enlisted in the US Civil War with Company B, Minnesota Infantry Regiment 11. His enlistment was on 3 Aug 1864 and was "mustered out" on 26 Jun 1865. Erik and Gertrud farmed in Marysville Twp in Wright Co from about 1865 to 1878 when Erik died.
Gertrud Jönsdotter used the surname Modig in the US. She had 6 children that lived to adulthood. Her oldest son, Jöns Persson (b 1824) had come to MN in 1886 [his wife had died in 1868]. He likely worked for various farmers in the US. He died in 1927 at Buffalo, MN.
Gertrud's daughter, Maria Persdotter, b in 1837, was likely married to John Monteith, although I have not found a marriage record. John Monteith had died before 1895 in Wright Co. Maria had begun to use the surname "Moody" in the US. She continued farming in Rockford Twp in Wright Co until at least 1910. She is recorded living with a nephew in the 1920 US Census. She died in 1925, at Buffalo, MN.

6. general comments; re: relationship with Gertrud Jönsdotter, b 1821
Hotakka -
and by following her ancestors using my Legacy database, leads to Anders Jönsson Hotakka (1590/1600 in Finland; died 1668/1691) - my 9th great-grandfather Anders Jönsson Hotakka (as above) first settled Arsjön and had 5 children: one being my 8th great-grandfather, Anders Andersson Hotakka, 1638-1691 Anders Andersson Hotakka, 1638-1691, and had a brother Johan Andersson (Hotakka), 1625-1678, and Gertrud Jonsdotter (1800-1881) descends from him
However, there is at least a double relationship Helja Svensdotter, 1800-1860 and Gertrud Jonsdotter (1800-1881) were 1st cousins Helja Svensdotter, 1800-1860 was my 3rd greatgrandmother and she was married to Anders Stephanson, 1791-1871; Anders and Helja had 10 children, with one son, Erik Andersson (1843-1921) - Erik was the father of Kristina Eriksdotter (1871-1943) and of course Kristina married Ole Olsen Skaret (1869-1940) and they were the parents of my grandmother, Avey Rangborg (1890-1960) married to my grandfather (my dad's dad) Lars Thoresen Grue 1887-1958.
