Emil J Moody

  Research Notes:

Emil Moody (b 1862) married abt 1906 to Hulda Marie Andersson. This was her second marriage. Her first marriage was to August Erickson (b 1866). Emil and August were 1st cousins. It is not clear if they had a lot of contact over the years. It is likely that they would have known each other as children in Minnesota.

Emil left Minnesota sometime after 1900. There is a record from Beulah Covenant Church in Turlock, Stanilaus Co, California that records Emil's marriage in Bellingham, Washington, on 18 Jun 1906. However, I haven't been able to independently confirm this through Washington State Records.

Emil and Hulda had moved to Merced Co in California by 1920 and then they moved to Stanislaus Co before 1930. It appears that he worked on farms and as a general laborer. The Census records indicate that he was considered the step father of Hulda's children (daughters) from her first marriage. As I have indicated elsewhere, it is not clear if Hulda's daughters had contact with their father.

Emil and Hulda had 2 sons, but the youngest had died at about 3 years old. Their youngest son (Gilbert) became a lawyer and lived at Turlock. He was married, but I don't think he had any children.

My relationship to Emil is quite distant - we are 4th half cousins, 3 times removed. My relationship is on his mother's side (Britta Eriksdotter, b 1836) and his grandmother (Katarina Andersdotter, b 1806), and eventually back the Porkka family, early settlers on the farm Fäbacken, initially in Fryksände parish and later transferred to Östmark parish and around 1850 to Lekvattnet parish, all in Värmland.

I have not found Emil in the 1900 US Census or in the 1905 MN State Census - he doesn't seem to be indexed on Ancestry or Family Search and the FT on Family Search [id, GM8G-275 ] does not record him in 1900 - it also does not record the date/location of marriage to Hulda Marie Anderson, b 1873 in Sweden
- marriage is NOT recorded on MOMS ...., nor is it recorded at Stockholm Lutheran Church records

- many of the Family Trees on Ancestry record a date of 18 Jun 1906 at Bellingham, Washington - and link to a Swedish Covenant Church record [Beluah Covenant Church at Trulock, Stanisluas Co, California. This records notes this date.
However, I have not found a record of this in Washington State Records, nor on the one Swedish Lutheran church records (Faith Lutheran, Bellingham) on Ancestry

- I have no other information that Emil and Hulda had moved to Washington State even for a short period of time. She had lived in Missouri until at least 9 Jun 1900, and they would have divorced sometime between 1900 and 1905, since August is recorded as single, living with his sister in the 1905 MN State Census in Minneapolis
Emil and Hulda and family are recorded in the 1910 US Census, and this records that that have been married for 5 years, meaning their marriage was about 1905

RE; Hulda Marie Anderson: according to Household record (Göteryd, Kronoberg, Sweden; AI:26, 1885-1894, page 307; she likely is the daughter of Anders Gustaf Issacksson, b 1834; her birth is 27 Mar 1873; she had left Sweden on 15 Mar 1886 [BII:2, image 10, no 14 \endash 7-8 number from the parish leaving for North America, early in Mar, but she is recorded; in the same Household record from above, brother Johan Herman Andersson had left for North America on 23 Mar 1889, and had died in America 28 Jun 1889 \endash there is an article published in the Star Tribune (Minneapolis), issue 29 Jun 1889, page 5 that reports he was named Herman Isaccson and died in a quarry accident due to broken neck and that he had come to the US a couple of months ago; NOTE also injured but seriously in the same accident was a perions name John Erickson but I don't know who he is; ]
