Research Notes:
Name: The Lekvattnet parish records tend to record the patronomyic as Jånsson. It seems to me that that would not be correct - a given name of "Jån" would not be common in Sweden, but some researchers (from Sweden American Genealogy group on Facebook) have indicated that "Jån" is a spelling varation of Jon or Jöns Johan. The added Swedish vowels are meant to distinguish the pronounciation of word, and thus it seems to me that the spelling of Jånsson would not be accurate. As I stated, the most common patronomyic for a given name of "Jon or Jönsson" should be "Jonsson or Jönsson".
But Jöns father is recorded as "Johan Persson" and so to me it seems that the correct patronomyic should be "Johansson".
It seems that "Jöns" took the name of Jöns Jönsson or Jansson Modig. The US Swedish Lutheran Church records for Stockholm Lutheran Church record is a bit uncertain. The patronomyic name seems to be Jansson, the handwriting is not clear. Some of his descendants used the surname, Modig or Moody in the US.

Jöns J Modig and Britta had 7 children. Britta died in 1868. Jöns J Modig then married a second time to Britta's sister, Helga Eriksdotter (b 1843) and they had 5 children - see Britta and Helga's mother's page for more detail (Katrina Andersdotter b 1806), Jön J Modig's descendants are then direct-line cousins
