Nils August Peterson

Summary: Nels A Peterson is a distant cousin (see his father's research notes). His given name in Swedish would be Nils. Nels emigrated in 1888 to the US, first settling in Cokato in Wright Co MN (his brothers, his sister and parents also emigrated, although his parents came a few years later. In 1892, his wife Marit Olsdotter (b 1866) and their first child, Johan Edvin (in the US he likely used the name John Edward, b 1888) came to the US. Around 1901, Nels along with his parents, moved to Mille Lacs Co, MN. It doesn't seem that they were able to file on a homestead. Nels A Peterson is found on a 1914 Plat map for Mille Lacs Co (see point 9 below),

Nils and his wife Marie (Marit) lived on the farm in Mille Lacs until they died. Their home was likely built in Bogus Brook Twp but they also had land next to them in Borgholm Twp (just to the north). Nels and Marie had a large family of 10 children - 9 boys and 1 girl. All grew up in the area, but most moved. A number of children ended up in California, but I am not sure when they left. For example, son Clarence as in Los Angeles in the early 1940's and he was a police officer with the Los Angeles Police. Son George also had moved to Los Angeles. Son Paul had moved to San Diego Co but for a few years he lived in the Los Angeles area. Daughter Esther had moved to San Diego Co; she was married. Edgar also moved to San Diego Co. Roy moved to Minneapolis; Albert and Walter lived in Mille Lacs Co, but I'm not sure if either if either lived on the home farm. John had a farm next door to Nels.

Many of the the children were married but most did not have children. Roy appears to the only children who had children, but I haven't found information about.

- MNHS has a death date of 10 Oct 1956 for Nels August Peterson in Scott Co [just south of Minneapolis] but Why ????
also has a death date of 25 Dec 1960 for Scott County ; NOT clear if this is correct of the same people ^9107,9108

Nils married Mary Olson about 1893 in Cokato, Wright Co, Minnesota, United States. (Mary Olson was born on 16 Nov 1866 in Vitsand, Värmland län, Sweden, died in 1960 in Milaca, Mille Lacs Co, Minnesota, United States ⁹¹⁰⁶ and was buried in Wendell Hill Cemetery, Milaca, Mille Lacs Co, Minnesota, United States.)
