  Research Notes:

Note: I have no family relationship to the "Jornlin family". However there are a few family connections with the Grue/Skarets and the Jornlins:

.. Minech Jornlin's wife was Gena Sophi Throndson - Gena was a sister to Anton Throndson and Anton was married to Mary Skaret and so Anton and Mary Throndson were my dad's uncle and aunt.
.. Leila Jornlin was my aunt and she married Norman Grue, my dad's brother
.. Ruth Jornlin was my dad's aunt and she was married to Richard Skaret who was a brother to my grandmother, Avey Skaret

Leila's parents were Minech Rudolph Jornlin [familysearch id K461-KLW] and Gena Sophia Throndson - daughter of Thore and Marit Throndson and a sister to Anton M Trondson [married to Mary/Maria Thronsdon, daughter of my 2nd great grandparents Ole and Kristina Skaret]

Minech or Minich Jornlin's father was known as Ole Tarald Joranlien [Ole T Jornlin] - Ole was born Rock Co, WI , 1844 [and his father, Tarald Jornlin left Toten, Norway [in Innlandet county] in 1865 [or possibly Tørpen, north of Olso]. Ole later moved to the Lansing IA area and then before 1900 to Afton, Brookings Co. Ole T Jornlin received his US land patent 30 Jun 1882 on NE¼ Sec 1, Twp 110 N and Range 50W of the 5th [cash entry sale]
... Afton Twp is in the east part of SD, only about 10 kms west of the MN border ...

1] House near Lansing: This farm is located just south of the Fagre Prairie Cemetery and is presently (1972) owned by Richard Troendle. Just a few yards south of the house, the land slopes sharply down into a very steep, thickly wooded, beautiful valley. This view must surely have reminded them of Norway, but they remained here only twelve years, before moving on to South Dakota to homestead.

2] Living near Brookings: Ole filed claim on a homestead about seven miles northeast of Brookings in 1877. The family moved out there in 1878 where he had a tree claim on the "West quarter". As the family grew, Ole bought more land, and later they built a home on the "East quarter". They were the first white family to settle in Afton Township, but the following year ...

- Jornlin family came from the area around Nord Topa, part of the Topa parish in Oppland Co, Norway - about 150 kms north of Olso or about 35 kms west of Lillehammer
- Minech Jornlin's grandfather, Tarald Hansen Jornlin, b 1804, left Norway in 1845 ... traveled to the area around Beloit, WI in Rock Co. [Newark Twp]
.. Minech's father, Ole T Jornlin, born 7 Nov 1844 in Norway [page 53] and was married to Helene Allete Rud on 24 Jan 1865 (Helene also from same area in Norway and was born 10 Dec 1841. Ole T left WI in 1866 for Allamakee Co, IA and bought a farm near Lansing, and after 12 years [1878] they moved to South Dakota homestead, about 7 miles northeast of Brookings [Timber Culture claim] ... homestead in Afton Twp. Helene died on 15 Jun 1925; Ole died on 7 Apr 1928* [he had become blind in 1894]

- records he married Gena Sophia Throndson at Camrose, on 5 Mar 1907 ... some photos of the family ... on pages 82 and 83 [a photo Gerry and Dena with the 2 oldest . this provides a clue as to the date of the manuscript; Michael b 1871 but Paul b in 1974 is not noted and so the date of the manuscript is between 1972 and 1974 ... and photo of Barb and James close to their marriage date in 1971]
