Research Notes:
Summary12 Jul 2019
There seems to be general agreement that Anders Jönsson was born about 1600, but there is no concensus on his death. Some Family Tree Researchers (FT's) record that he likely died around 1640, but according to Kenneth Bergman he had to pay taxes in 1652 [this is also noted in Richard Broberg's work]. He had at least 5 children, although there is some variation in the birth years. There is some minor agreement on the birth and name of wife - possibly Ingrid born about 1602.
Most of the information suggests he was born in Finland. His birth year generally is noted as around 1600, although he likely was born earlier. His date of death is not conclusive, but sometime between 1668 and 1691.
For the most part I have used Kenneth Bergman's data as a starting point in researching Anders Jönsson Hotakka descendants.
I think there is a reasonable level of confidence to conclude:
1.Anders Jönsson Hotakka was born prior to 1600, most likely about 1590 (see point 5 and 3.b.). About 1601 heleft Hällinmäki village in Finland * see point 4 (Veijo Saloheimo). It is likely that around 1601 or a few years later he left for Sweden, although this source does not specifically say this. 2.He was likely the first settler on Hotakstorp (a torp or farm near/at Ärnsjön and Arnsjön appears to be considered the same place by some researchers). The earliest taxation record notes that he paid taxes at Ärnsjön in 1652 and that by 1688 it appears that paid taxes on ¼ of Ärnsjön would made by 2 of his sons, Staffan and Olof. - see below for research note 9. But the transcribed Fryksände Mantalslängder records that Staffan had paid taxes in as early as 1658 and Olof paid starting in 1665. See point 3.b. Also spelled Hatackstorp [about 5 kms to the east of Ärnsjön] 3.The name of his wife is unknown, although some other FTs record her given name as Ingrid 4.Anders Jönsson Hotakka had at least 5 children accordings to most other family researchers. The oldest son, Johan, is often recorded as born in 1625 at Ärnsjön with some noting "Hattaktorpet" 5.Likely his youngest son was Anders Andersson (Hotakka) born about 1638. Most family reserachers record his birth at Hattakstorp (Hotakstorp or Hatackstorp) at Ärnsjön. 6.Anders Jönsson Hotakka likely [***] died sometime between 1668 and 1691 although in 1691 he would have been 89-99 years old depending on his birth. The age 99 at a death likely would have been unusual at that time. 7. See point 12 below, re: work of Jarl Ericson
At this point, it is difficult to verify more information about him, his wife, and his children, with the exception of his son, Anders Andersson (Hotakka) born about 1638.
See the PDF downloaded [currently in my 'z-folder']: Richard Broberg - see point 7 "Finsk invandring till mellersta Sverige. En översikt från medeltiden till 1600-talets slut" [Finnish immigration to central Sweden. An overview from the Middle Ages to the end of the 17th century].

2.Disbyt family trees (FT) most use the Finnish Family Name, Hokkata [reviewed again, 10 Jun 2019]
There are a number of Family Trees on Disbyt recording information of the his children, but many only record one or two children, although a few record 4 children - none are complete and none record or note any source information. Birth and death years vary, so all should be prefexed with "about". Most use the Finnish Family Name, Hokkata. All record descendant information on Anders Andersson, b 1638.

Taxation records [but source is not clear; likely from Broberg - see note 8]
a. 1652; Ärnsjön; received torpsedel; torp = a little plot of land; sedel = likely meaning "a note or papers, bill" "Skattelägges" = taxation. So, this likely means he had a bill for taxation for his "torp" recorded - the above (re 1652) is noted by Richard Broberg. Richard also says: and then, 'in 1668 the homestead is recorded with having ¼ of the taxes at Ärnsjön' - it is not clear who was paying the taxation. BUT according to 'point b' below, in 1668 Anders Jönsson's son, Olof Andersson was the person taxed. And, "Finntorpet Arnsjön, which has its limits set by the county clerk Nils Botolfsson's time is 1/4 home place, and the tax is now paid by Stefan Andersson and Olof Andersson. Their father was granted permission in 1652 to occupy the town." 1688, vt no 20; 9-11 Jul. (see point 8 and 9 below)
b. See my document "Mantalslängder, Fryksände, 1653-1750: Transcribed 1653: deserted 1654-1657: Anders Håtack. 1658: Staffan Andersson. Is this because, Anders Jönsson Hotakka had turned age 63 and no longer had to pay taxes. If so, then his birth would have been close to 1594. Most FTs record his birth about 1600.

7. a miscleaous court record posted by Kenneth Bergman under Anders Jönsson Hotakka's page - regarding a claim by someone illegal hunting in the high mountains .... and that Olof Andersson Håtack and brothers Anders and Staffan Håtack are out moose hunting.
- Google translate of this is quite poor, so I am not sure that I understand this record: - were the brothers accused of illegal hunting???

- by searching "Årnsjön", there are a number of hits about the settlers
Arnsjön began cultivation in 1648 by two Finns, Sigfrid Häkkinen and Olof Polack, who obtained state license from the governor but was suspended because they had gone without legal standing and sowed grain. Instead, another settler, Anders Jonsson Hotakka moved to Arnsjön, and with the support of the governor's building paper of the 1 Jul 1652, he received the "title", with the fields and meadows, and the right to give the farm [area] as part of inheritance to his offspring. The entire row of woods around the new building's forests and grounds and upwards [to the horizon; skyward]. In 1654, he was promised to buy what he could buy of the woodland. At this time the complete area was not a part of the taxes, since Arnsjön at the court hearing was [only] taxed at ¼ (of Ärnsjön) in 1668 [Sep or July). His sons Johan, Staffan and Anders shared it in part after him, but then the latter one [Anders] at the time of Christmas in 1691 was murdered in his home [see research notes for Anders Andersson, 1638-1691]. The home/farm was sold a few years later to Per Bondesson in Östmark. He used it for over a decade, during which time other housewives and villagers lived at Arnsjön. He [Per Bondesson], later sold the farm to the Finn Mattes Karhinen [likely by 1705] and to a son of the murdered Anders, Anders Andersson Hotakka [1669-1711]. After this the family named the farm Hattaktorp still today its name.
During the last half of the 18th century, several relatives including the Valkoinen family, moved to Arnsjön, and was divided into several parts.
** earlier on page 80 of the PDF, we have the statement, "Here in Värmland's mountain range, Finn's settled .... at the beginning of the 1600's, Olof Larsson Hotakka residence at Lekaråsen in Gåsborn [parish] [ this is about 150 kms east of Östmark]. Gåsborn parish area may have initially under Filipstad parish
?? is Olof Larsson Hotakka a relative of Anders Jönsson Hotakka ???? I haven't found any evidence
- Kenneth Bergman notes the name and the daughter, but no other connection - there is a geni.com FT that estimates a time frame Olof Larsson Hotakka from about 1571 and 1631 and that his father was Lars Hotakka and records a daughter of Olof Larsson and some descendants [ link, https://www.geni.com/people/Olof-Larsson-Hotakka/6000000054379447843 ] - there also is a FT, that records some information [link, http://yvonne.ericssons.one/vj/p004c82e1.html ] with the daughter having a FFN of Hotakkinen; dying in Säfsnäs parish and just east of Gåsborn - just east of Fredriksberg
- there are a couple more FT's for Olof Larsson Hotakka but none make a connection to our family
NOTE: There is no mention of a person named Olof Larsson Hotakka in the FFN (Finnish Family Names pdf, see Jan Myrvold ... Niclas Persson) or of a person named Lars Hotakka at Lekaråsen in Gåsborn [parish]
9. Carl Axel Gottlund; "Dagbok, över mina vandringar på Wermlands och Solörs finnskogar 1821"
http://www.nordvarmland.com/istid/page.php?id=2522
This is his diary of travels in Värmland in the summer to fall, 1821. It is a bit hard to search, but: the second 8 Sep to 29 Oct, third 29 Oct to 27 Nov, and fourth 27 Nov to 22 Dec. These "chapters" (45,46,47) contain the diary entries. Do: "ctrl F" for "find" and type "Ärsnjön" and there are a number of hits in the third and fourth 'chapter' (in the second 'chapter' there is one hit re; the murder - see research notes for Anders Andersson, 1638-1691).
A number of other researchers reference this work. In addition to difficulty in searching the diaries, they are also difficult to interpret. Many comments are vague and often incomplete. As well, it is difficult to determine family relationships (at least our family and relationships). Additionally, 'google translate' is often poor, mainly because the diaries use an older Swedish and/or older spelling. Nevertheless it is one of the earliest records since these diaries are from the 1821.
Ärnsjön and/or 'Hotakka' [note: the following is the only note regarding Anders Jönsson Hotakka or family]
29 Oct to 27 Nov [Wednesday, 14 Nov] Arnsjön (Arnsjöni), which village as well as Gransjön is one of the oldest in the neighborhood, is a 1/4 home and 4 g. [?] And also the village Kampbacken (Kampiharju) 1 g. [?] Previously here in the village have been several farms, but now they are deserted. The first, who built this village, had been a Karhinen and Hotakka, but which one of them was oldest, was not remembered. At Olov Mickelsson's in Suhola, I saw an old document in the original of the 10th and 11th of July 1668 at the court in Fryksdalen, in which it was called that the County Governor and some Swedish peasants testified about Ernsjön and its taxation, that it was 1/4 h. which Staffan Andersson and Olov Andersson after their father, ** who by governor ... on June 1. In 1652 it was allowed to occupy, then inhabited...
** this note indicates that Anders Jönsson Hotakka was not taxed in 1668, but two of his sons were. But this does not mean he had died, since taxation stopped the year someone turned age 63. Anders Jönsson Hotakka would have turned 63 about 1653 if he was born in 1590; if he was born about 1600, then he would have turned 63 about 1663. Given this, he likely died closer to the year 1668 rather than 1691. In 1691 he would have been about 99 (or 89) years old and this age would have been unlikely at that time.

Sigfrid Häkkinen and Olof Polack (actually Puolakka) were the first growers in Arnsjön. They had received croft from the governor and had the place inspected by the sheriff and the board. After complaints against Sigfird Häck and Olof Polakc at Arnsj ön, the sheriff is ordered to arrest them.
It was a third Finn, Anders Jönsson Hotakka, who received the board's approval according to F52 h13. The settler Anders Jönsson is allowed to use the place by Arnsjön that he occupied after the Finn Sigfrid. Anders Jönsson Hotakka had received the governor's croft certificate on 1 July 1652. According to F54 v27: Meets Sörmark's owner agreement with Anders Jönsson in Arnsjön about the forest. It was not until 1668 that Arnsjön was taxed as ¼ according to court record F68v20
Anders Jönsson Hottakka, b c 1600, is available in the lengths from 1656. The name of his wife is not recorded in the archives; however, there is information about four sons:
