Research Notes:
Summary:
Ane Lucie Bakken was my 5th cousin, 3 times removed. See her father's page for an outline of my family relationship.
Ane Luci Mikkelsdatter Bakken was born in 1847 and was the twin sister of Dorthe Marie Mikkelsdtr Bakken. It appears that she used the name "Anna Bakke" in the US. She never married, but she had left Tolga parish for North America in 1879. She travelled with her brother Esten and her sister Ingrid who was married to Johannes Narjord. Their destination was Lansing, IA, and it is most likely that from there they travelled across country to the area around Dorchester, Iowa.
Anna Bakke had taken out a homestead entry in South Viking Twp, Benson Co in Oct 1892 on the NW¼ of Sec 26 and received her patent in Feb of 1898. It is not clear if she lived on the homestead since the census records record her living with her sister Dorthe Marie.
The first record I have found for her is the 1900 US Census where she is recorded living with her twin sister, Dorthe Marie and her husband and family. Around 1906, Anna moved into the town of Maddock, Benson Co. She was working, but the census did not record the type of work she did. Anna continued to live in Maddock, and in the 1930 census she was living with her sister Marie [Dorthe]. Anna died in 1933 at Maddock.

However: There are 2 churches: North Viking Lutheran and Viking Lutheran. These two churches are NOT the same, and additionally there are 2 cemeteries: North Viking Lutheran Cemetery and Viking Lutheran Cemetery, and these are NOT the same. The North Viking Lutheran Cemetery is about 1 km south of the town of Maddock - travel south on ND highway 30 for about 1 km. The cemetery is on the left [east] side of the highway. Both Anna and her mother are buried here. Viking Lutheran Cemetery and Church: From Maddock, travel south on highway 30 for about 14 kms ... the highway curves east for less than a km, then continues south. Before traveling south there a gravel road that continues east - this is 31 St NE. Turn onto the gravel road and continue for a little more that 0.5 km and on the north side of the road is the Viking Lutheran Church and just to the north of the Church is the Viking Lutheran Cemetery. Dorthe Bakken - Paulson, Hans Paulson, Mike Paulson, Ingeborg M Bakken, and a number of other Paulsons, are buried at Viking Lutheran Cemetery
