Research notes - last update, 12 Apr 2018

1.

I looked through the taxation books for Pürr Michelsson's (b 1714), father, Michel Michelsson birth and death unknown.

The earliest volume (EI:b) that I could clearly make the name Michel Michelsson on the farm Kårböleskog in Färila parish is for the year 1698 - NO: see my excel sheet, Mantalslängdler .... There are 2 earlier books, but the names are very difficult to make out. I should also note, that in the volumes I looked at, there were more than one Michel Michelsson and at times, I couldn't clearly make out the farm name (and in some cases, I had to guess)

1698, vol 8, page 1125
1699, vol 11, page 1482
1700, vol 14, page 1775appears to be 1 drang and 1 piga
1705, vol 32, page 271Michel, then next a mark for him and then for (wife?) and then as above
1710, vol 52, page 5427same as 1705
1715, vol 66, page 821same as 1710
1720, vol 75, page 524same as 1715
1725, vol 87, page 2345Michel Michelsson's Enka, no mark for him, but for wife and then a
mark for son and daughter ?
- it is likely that he died 1724 or 1725 (he is recorded in 1724, p 3071)
1726 book

1. b.

- 1750, vol 165, page 533 Per Michelsson, Kårböleskog

[see my document, Kårböleskog taxation]

2. a. Death record, 19 Jul 1724 [EI:1, p 45, 1st side, 2nd fr bottom]; there are additional comments but difficult to read ..... from Kårböleskog .... Does Not record parents
in 22 Jul 2018, I posted a request for assistance on the above burial record
- response, from Leif_Lundkvist, on 23 Jul 2018:

"Death record: Year 1724 the 19 July / Lärböses / Farmer Mikil Mikilsson from Lärböses skog (=forest), was buried in Lärböses,
been sick for 12 years, lived for / 52 years / east of the Chapel."
- response, Harold Nordius also on 23 Jul 2018:
"There is no such place. I think the place is Kårböhle, where there was a chapel"

So, from the above, we have the burial record, that essentially says, "farmer Michel Michelsson from Kårböleskog, was buried at Kårbole (east of the chapel ?); he had been sick for 12 years; he was age 52 years at death <born about 1672>"

previously I had ... died age 52 years (åtal or a shorten form, åtr ???] death due to .... capellet, meaning chapel or ...? ??

3. Familysearch family tree ** [ revised, 28 May 2018 ]

link to Michel Michelsson (1672-1724), https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KNHG-P4X?1=1&spouse=KNHG-PSR
id# KNHG-P4X
- as I noted in the "discussion" section of this page, the date of death is incorrect

- this tree records the possible parents of Michel Michelsson (1672-1724).
(1) father, Michel Michelsson born 1635 and died 1700 and his mother as Margareta Mattsdotter Kirjalainen born 1639, no date of death (this is likely a Finnish surname) [family search id, LZS9-R1T0 ;; this might be a possibility - see notes under "Brita Matsdotter' (b abt 1640); and my article/document, Mickel Mickelsson Huskainen, b 1687
??

Conclusion These parents may be correct since some of the children births etc are likely correct with what I have been able to verify or find out: BUT: some of the children recorded ARE NOT likely correct - for example, Anders Michelsson 'Bock') (born1670 and died 1750); this person lived in Ed and is recorded in the Ed parish household records, AI:1 - 3 (pages 76, 35, 75 on the 2nd side); he died in 1750 and viewing the vol HVIa:2 on page 339, 2nd side is death is recorded and this notes that his father was Soldator Michel Dåås and mother was Ingrid ...... ?; the names of the 2nd wife matches with the household records

The given name Michel is common in Färila in the later part of the 1600's. I have looked through numerous pages (all but the last 10 pages or so) in the Birth records (vol C:1), with the first records starting about 1680. However, there are a number with the efternamn (patronymic) either, Michelsson or Michelsdotter and it is almost impossible to determine 'our' ancestor, specifically the father of our Michel Michelsson (1672-1724)
[ there are a few Michel Michelsson in the 1650's 1700's - at Loos, Kårböle, Risarv, Lillskog, and 'our' ancester at Kårböleskog ]

Michel Michelsson (born 1672, died 1724) and Märta Larsdotter's (1677-1749) children are recorded in vol C:1 on page 64; re; Kårböleskog, although his daughter Malin Michelsdotter (b 1696) is not recorded - see her research notes. There seems to be some years (from about 1690-1700) that many birth records have either been lost of destroyed, since there often are gaps in the birth years of some children in the Färila parish birth/baptism volume, C:1, 1680-1743. Malin Michelsdotter's death record does not record the names of her parents.

As I have noted in my document, "Michel Michelsson Huiskanien, b 1696" starting about mid-page on page 13 (Part F), it is possible that the person named "Anna Michelsdotter", born 1697 at Kårböleskog, is also a daughter of Michel Michelsson (b 1672). However, I have not found any credible evidence of who her parents were, even though both her and Malin Michelsdotter (b 1696) are recorded at the same place and on the same page. And thus, I have not recorded her as a daughter of Michel Michelsson (born 1672, died 1724) and Märta Larsdotter's (1677-1749

3. b. The above FamilySearch tree (id# KNHG-P4X) some of the births of the children recorded are consistent with the birth records of the children of Michel Michelsson (born 1672, died 1724) and Märta Larsdotter (1677-1749)
- however, little information on the children other than births
- not all children are noted
- and the FT links to Michel Michelsson (born 1672, died 1724) his parents, Michel Michelsson and Margareta Matsdotter Kirjalainen -- but I have not found evidence to support this person as the mother. If fact I have shown that the mother was Brita Matsdotter

3. c.

The Kårböleskog taxation records, records that for 1696 and 1697 the head of the farm is Matts Michelsson and then in 1698, the head is Michel Michelsson. No years of birth are noted and there are no household records for this time period.

However, it is likely that Matts Michelson and Michel Michelsson are brothers, but Matts died in sometime in 1697 and then Michel took over the farm. Michel would been about age 25 or 26 at that time. In the Husförhör (AI:1), records at the top of the page is 'our' (1672-1724) "Michel Michelsson" with a line across his name, then wife Marta Larsdtr and then 4 lines down, son Pürr. There is however, no indication of Michel Michelsson (1672-1724) father or mother.

As indicated above, it is likely that our Michel Michelsson (1672-1724) had a brother named Matts Michelsson. Matts Michelsson likely had a daughter, Karin, born 24 Jul 1691 [C1, page 64 side 2, third from top; farm Kårböleskog; I have not found a death record for this person, nor I have found a spouse for Matts Michelsson]. It is possible Matts Michelsson was born about 1663 - this is a date recorded on a the Family Search tree; however, the accuracy of this tree is low, although sound facts can be verified. For example this tree (familysearch ID # LZS9-TH6) does record the birth the daughter, Karin as I noted in the second sentence above. This tree links to brother Michel born 1672, but the tree has a wrong death date for this Michel. So, ..... ??? BUT I have included Matts Michelsson on my data but with a mariginal confidence level....

BUT it is ikely Lars Michelsson was also a brother, with his birth recorded born 24 Oct 1680 - Färila births, C:1, page 1 - Michel Michelsson on Kårböleskog, son Lars. This is the first record that notes the father's name. Most likely, Kerstin Michelsdotter was a sister Färila births, C:1, page 4, 1st side, born 26 Dec 1685

4 b. further notes on parents of Michel Michelsson (1672-1724)

.. (i) Familysearch; Sweden births/baptism collection 1611-1920
- Lars Michelsson, born 24 Oct 1680 - Färila births, C:1, page 1 - Michel Michelsson on Kårböleskog, son Lars
- Kerstin, born 26 Dec 1685 - Färila births, C:1, page 4, 1st side - Michel Michelsson on Kårböleskog, dotter Kerstin
however, the Färila births, C:1, DOES NOT record a birth for Margareta in 1682 as the familysearch tree suggests or daughter Lisbeta (1705, but this person was born and died in Feb 1705 and the familysearch tree says that she died at Tenskog; NOT recorded in C:1, page 68]

.. (ii) family tree at "Genealogy Shortcuts website" [Släktforskningssajten Genvägar;
link, https://genvagar.nu/show.asp?PersonId=203731 ]
- records the parents of 'our' Michel Michelsson (1672-1724) as Michel Michelsson (b 1635) and Brita Matsson (b 1640) and that they both were born and died at Kårböleskog
- However, this website provides NO source citations, nor does it note the person who entered this data

4. c. Familysearch; id# KNHG-P4X
- see above, point 3
- this tree records that the parents of Michel Michelsson (1672-1724) as:
Michel Michelsson 1635-1700 and Margaret Mattsdotter [Kirjalainen] b. 1639, with an alternate name of Brita Mattsdotter
--- BUT when you view Margaret Mattsdotter, a number of other children are recorded and it is for this reason or this section is NOT correct for 'our' family

Scrol down to the bottom of the inset and you have the article repeated with 'sections':

section 5, .... Kårböle is mentioned in 1542 Jogan Biörsson in the Korebölet (SOFI; Språk- och folkminnesarkivet i Uppsala (SOFI)Sökorden), and may contain the male name Kåre and those living on the soil or farm after (Wahlberg 2003: 181). Perhaps Kaar was the first to settle here, and named the whole town. The name was Kålbyle 1654, Kårböle 1697 (Geographical Exhibition, Y12) and Korböle 1726, and then had five households (SOFI). There is an indication that some people moved from the old of village of Kårböle to Kårböleskog (SOFI), which could mean that Kårböle was originally a forest-finn settlement (see p. 17f). Kårböle consisted of 1838 of eight households with a total of 100 people, according to Archbishop Johan Olof Wallin, a modest and happy people in a cultivated valley, and not as another visitor a year ago, a miserable country town (Murray 1987: 206). According to the tradition, Kårböle was an early parish (SOFI) and its own chapter of the 1450s (Figure 6), and the church was a sacred church to Sankt Olof (Ström 1827: 44). Korböle Capelle is rewritten around 1531 and Kåreböle Chapel 1645 (SOFI). During this age, Kårböle was a resting place for pilgrims and here stood a cross at which the travelers made their Fig. 6. Kårböle's new chapel was built in the 1990s as a thoughtful copy of the medieval chapel found in Kårböle. section 19, According to another source, Björnberg [ likely this is currently a part of Sveg parish in Jamtland; but is only about 20+ kms cross country and west and a bit north of Kårböle) received the torp letter 1623 and was taxed (usually 6 years later, so in the year 1629) [torp refers to a cottager holding or peasant). Finnbosetten [the Finn settler] on Kårböleskog got his torp letter in 1629 and was taxed in 1635 (Wedin 2007: 108f + Wedin CD). In Björnberg there were Finn Pål Larsson and Kårböleskog Lars Jonsson**, but in 1694 Henrik Olofsson lived with his wife and children in Björnberg

- sections 5, 18 & 19; section 19 notes: " ... The area was inhabited during the first decades of forest-Finnish immigrants in the 1600's ... lies both Kårböle and the finn residents of Kårböleskog ... in 1694 .... and Mickel Mickelsson with his wife and children in Kårböleskog [likely Michel Michelsson and his wife Märta Larsdtr, but not proven since this article doesn't mention the names again or any other identifying information ]

Also: see my doc, Färila and Kårböle, general reseach doc, May 2018

** Lars Jonsson;

(a) the website below is referring to a person named Lars Jonsson from Svedja who died about 1676 at Lasseskrog (originally Heden) [Färila AI:1, page 60; son Lars Larsson] who had received persmission parliament and King in 1670-71 to build a cottage and/or guest house on Kårböleskogen. But this note is not completely clear since it mainly is referring to Lasseskorg and not Kårböleskogen; in fact Kårböleskogen may simply be referring to Kårböles forest land. |This reference may in fact be referring to a different Lars Jonsson than the person mentioned above since this Lars Jonsson is refering to a 'torp' letter around 1629.

Michel married Märta Larsdotter, daughter of Lars Esbjörnsson and Cherstin Engbretsdotter, about 1703 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden. (Märta Larsdotter was born on 2 Jun 1677 in Ytterhogdal, Jämtland län, Sweden 8072 and died on 6 Mar 1749 in Kårböleskog, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8072,8073.)

1. Marriage - 1703, 1703, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden. 8074 Marriage. Märta Larsdotter's death records, notes that she married Michel Michelsson at age 26 or about 1703. I have recorded their marriage at Färila parish, but it could very well have been at Ytterhogdal parish, since that is where she was born. The earliest Färila marriage records start in 1711; there are Ytterhogdal marriage records records for the 1703 time frame. I could not find a marriage recorded for the years, 1701-1704 at Ytterhogdal.
