bullet  Research Notes:

John Midtdal"Tufsingdalen Gårder og Slekter", 1991; Moen nordre page 420-423

Note: John Johnsen Moen (1822-1912; died at Westerose, AB) was married to Sara Torgersdatter Movold (1817-1876; died in Norway). Sara Torgersdatter Movold was a sister to Tobias Torgersen Movold (1823-1907). Tobias was married to Marit Olsdatter Røstbakken (1820-1904). Marit was a sister to my 2nd great-grandmother, Olava Olsdatter Røstbakken (1823-1919) who was married to Simen Thoresen Grue (1823-1903).

His mother was Ingeborg Sophie Johnsdatter Moen (b 1847) and her parents were John Johnsen Moen (1822-1912; died at Westerose, AB) and Sara Torgersdatter Movold (1817-1876; died in Norway). Sara Torgersdatter Movold
was a sister to Tobias Torgersen Movold (1823-1907). Tobias was married to Marit Olsdatter Røstbakken (1820-1904). Marit was a sister to my 2nd great-grandmother, Olava Olsdatter Røstbakken (1823-1919) who was married to Simen Thoresen Grue (1823-1903).

John Johnsen Moen was my 5th cousin 3 times removed and he was a 5th cousin once removed to my grandfather, Lars Thoresen Grue (1887-1958).

My relationship to John Johnsen Moen is through my great grandmother, Berit Sophie Larsdatter Mikkelson (1861-1952) and Berit's mother's family ancestors. Berit's mother was Beret Sofie Mikkelsdatter Midtdal (1832-1899).

John came to Alberta, Canada in 1906 at the age of 84 years. He most likely travelled with his son's family who arrived in the spring of 1906 to the area or district known as Westerose, Alberta. Westerose is about 45 kms west of Wetaskiwin.

NOTE sources 2-4 refer to Kvilvang ancestors --- connection to Sara ..... through her grandfather's brother and hence the connection to Perder Kvilvang

- Peder Kvilvang and Marit Olsdtr Berg emgirated in 1883; when Marit died in 1895, Gea Nybak came to be Peder's housekeeper - they were later married (Sena was Gea's daughter from a previous marriage/relationship

3. 1885 US Census for Altanta Twp, Becker Co, MN lists Peter Kilvang, Marit, son, Ole J., and Emma B; as well as John O Berg, wife Marit, and son Nels (see usgenweb for Becker Co, MN)

4. sources above also give ancesters for Peder Kvilvang leading to Iver Ingebretsen Kvilvang, born 1742, with a son as Torger Iversen Kvilvang, born 1744 - Torger's daughter is listed as Sara Togersdtr Movold, born 1817 and married to John Johnsen Moen (it may be possible that Tobias Torgersen Movold, born 1823 is a brother to Sara, and therefore a son of Torger Iversen Kvilvang --- 3 Nov 2011 -- yes this is the most likely senario)
