I do not have definitive proof that this "Carolina Nordin" is the same person as "Lena Nordin" and the same person as "Karin or Kajsa Mickelsdotter Hendrickson" born on 23 Aug 1858 in Sweden, the daughter of Michael Hendrickson and Helja Andersdotter Andersson (the daughter of Anders Stephansson, my 3rd great grandfather, on my grandmother Avey Skaret's side). The Michael Hendrickson family left Östmark parish in Sweden on 11 Mar 1863.

The early US records (1870 & 1880 US Census and the 1875 & 1885 MN State Census) records Helja as Ellen Hendrickson. In the 1870 US Census, the oldest daughter is also recorded as "Ellen" and her age corresponds with "Helja" of the Sweden Church Records.

There are few documents that provide probable evidence that Carolina Nordin is the same Karin (Helja), the daughter of Michael and Helja:


(1). Otto Edward Hendrickson's obituary of 1914 that notes he is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers "....Mrs Lena Nordin of Hoffman, MN ...... and Emil Hendrickson of Annandale [MN]"

Conclusion: If the father of both Otto and Emil (who are brothers) is Michael Hendrickson and mother is Helen and if a sister to Otto is "Mrs Lena (Carolina) Nordin", then Carolina's father is also Michael Hendrickson and her mother would be Helen (see point 5). A further piece of evidence for this conclusion is that the MN Death and burials collecton on familysearch record "Mrs Peter Nordin's" father as "Hendrickson"

(2). US and MN state census records different dates for Carolina's birth, with the 1885 MN State recording birth as "1858" and the two census records birth as 1859 and the others within 2 years (1860). The exception is the 1900 US census that has her birth recorded as Aug 1876. With the exception of 1900 US, the records would reasonably support a a birth of "1858".
The census records also vary with the date of emigration (1862 and 1861) with the 1905 MN State recording a residence of this state for 42 years, with the year of immigration then as 1863 and this date corresponds with the Sweden Church records
(3). Familysearch: death notes record that Mrs Peter Nordin's father as "Hendrickson"
(4). The Findagrave post for Carolina Nordin (husband, Peter Nordin) records her birth as 25 Aug 1858
(5). given name - Carolina.
From the website "nordicnames.de" a nickname (or pet name) of Kajsa is Karin. From the website "behindthename.com", a variant of the name Karin is Kaja and would easily have been Kajsa, a common given name at that time in Östmark parish in Sweden and throughout the Nordic countries. Another variant for Karin in Sweden is Carina or Karina that could have become, Carolina and a diminitive of Carolina is "Lina" and thus Lena as recorded in Otto's obit.
