"7 July 1883. Ola went with John Halvorsen to Alexandria to meet his two daughters, Oline and Marthe, who came from Norway along with Helen Grondalen."

- this post includes an obit from the Park Region Echo, 16 Mar 1916, and in this obit there is the statement, "...John Halvorsen was the uncle of G O Lordalen who lives near Lowry" [south of Trysil-Bethseda cemetery]; findagrave has a post at Trysil-Bethseda cemetery for Gjermund [Olsen] Lordalen (1852-1935) and his obit but I can't see a relationship; Gjermund Olsen Lordalen and his famiy left Trysil also in 1881 and so it is probable that he and John travelled together




3. Land: homestead entry: Lot 6, Sec 33, Twp 127N, Range 39W; 33.90 acres, Holmes City Twp, Douglas Co, MN

- the MN State Census (1885 & 1895) records that he was a Farmer. 33.90 acres seems to be a small acreage, but maybe John also worked for other farmers in the area.
- the Historielag posts suggests that he had spent time with E.P. Lobeck, and the post notes that:
"...10 June 1884. John Halvorson began to dig on the site for his house between John and Magnus Madsen in Section 33" - this is likely the homestead land



4. Both John's wife Kersti and daughter Oline were likely buried at the Trysil-Bethseda Lutheran Church cemetery in Holmes City Twp, but no record is noted on findagrave.

- I had visited this cemetery on 6 Jun 2008; but at that time I was only aware of the "Sorgarden" family relationship (Grambo relationship), so I did not search out Kersti or Oline Halvorsen's grave if there is one

3. Migration - 1881, 1881, Trysil, Hedmark, Norway. ⁶⁶⁵⁶ Leaving Trysil Parish for America. John Halvorsen born 1833, wife Kirsti born Johanne born 1872. Daughters Oline and Marte emigrated in 1883; it is not clear why they left about 2 years later.

Homestead entry payment of $5.00 was made on 1 Mar 1886 (receipt 8532). His final receipt (7648) was 1 Oct 1891. John received patent for the homestead land on 30 Aug 1895 (BLO records).
