2. Alberta Homestead records [see file folder for doc and photos, Simon and Nils homestead lands, 1 Jul 2022]
- Nils had an entry application for a homestead in the Whitecourt area - this was a proxy application by his brother, Michael Prestlien, dated: 9 May 1911. SW¼ Sec 22, Twp 59, Range 12, W5th - close to Michael's homestead on the north side of the McLeod River. This application was abandoned [letter from department of the Interior, dated 4 Nov 1911], but it is not clear if Nels ever went to Whitecourt [not likely]
- Nils then applied for homestead entry south of Hugenden/Amisk and near his brother Simon's homestead on 24 Jun 1912-- NW¼, Sec 28, Twp 39, Range 8, W4th; patent letter 6 Mar 1917; address was Puffer, AB (homestead entry application)

3. Memories & Milestones - Amisk, Hughenden ... not on-line ...I think I used interlibrary loan
- Nils, after his mother died, went to live with Cornelius Grue, Armena - "it was a strict upbringing". - and homesteaded 1912 - NW Sec 28-39-8; patent, 1916; address was Puffer, AB - article gives a lot of detail on the changes made to homestead, etc
*** NOTE: the available census [1916, 1921, 1926, and 1931] records that Nels emigrated in 1904 - he would have been about 12 years old. He is recorded with his father in the 1900 US census at Norman/Florence in WA
4. 1916 Canada Census; district 32 (Battle River), sub 12, page 8; Twp 39, Range 8, W4
- Nels is recorded, but then is crossed off -- not clear what this means, possibly he wasn't at his place on the correct enumeration day, ie, he was away at someplace else, but when he was enumerated (June 17-19) he was at his place and so was recorded -- likely a decision by the "supervisor" was made that he could not be counted, but why
