Written by Rueben D Grue, 14 Aug 2016; © 2016 (some revisions on 6 Apr 2019)
I have used extensively the Ancestry.com Public Member Tree, 'Cleaves - Kuzmick Master Tree, owner Alexis Kuzmick from Palno, Collin Co, Texas with last access on 30 Jun 2022 [ http://person.ancestry.com/tree/21875086/person/28890967624/facts ]. I have recorded Alexis' data on many source citations on my Legacy database. I have also used as many as the original sources (available on-line) as possible.
Ingeborg Anna Jacobsdatter was born in 1840 at the Søndre Søndmør farm in the Tolga clerical district, Hedmark County, Norway. Her father was Jacob Nilsen Søndmør, a brother to Mikkel Nilsen Søndmør who was later known as Mikkel Nilsen Prestlien.
As far as I have been able to determine Ingeborg Anna did not marry. In 1865 she was working as a servant on the smaller farm Olsgaarden that was part of the large farm, Tolgensgaard. In 1866 she likely was living on Søndre Søndmør and she is recorded at this location/farm in the 1875 Norway Census. On 24 Jun 1866, Ingeborg Anna's daughter, Gea Augustdatter, was born. Ingeborg Anna was not married at this time; Gea's birth record on Norway's Digitalarkivet appears to record August Andersson (from Sweden) as her father.
On 22 Apr 1880, Ingeborg Anna (recorded as a pige or servant) and Gea Augustdatter are recorded as leaving Tolga Parish for North America. It appears they were traveling alone as there are no other persons leaving, or at least recorded as leaving, on the 22 Apr 1880. It is likely they travelled to Trondheim and took a boat to Hull, England and from there a train to Liverpool and from Liverpool they would sailed to Quebec. This is the most common travelling route for people in this area when they left for North America. However, I have not been able to find them recorded on any ship lists (or on any ships leaving Christiania).
The next record we have is the 1880 US Federal Census, with enumeration starting on the first of June. Ingeborg Anna and Gea are recorded living with the Even Sønmør family in Dane Prairie Twp, Otter Tail Co, MN. Even was Ingeborg Anna's brother.
I have not found any record that records Ingeborg Anna's location between 1800 and 1906. Ingeborg Anna's location can be confirmed on 24 Jun 1906. At this time, she was living in the household of Gilbert Svensen who was married to her daughter, Gea. They were living at Lewisville, Alberta, Canada (this is about 10-15 kms south east of Wetaskiwin). Although I have not found any original or direct evidence, Gea (also known as Gena) was married in 1886 to Gilbert Svensen and it appears they were living in Dickey County, ND. Gilbert and Gea Svensen left North Dakota in the summer or fall of 1897. Gilbert had obtained a homestead in the Lewisville area. By 1921, Gilbert and Gea had moved into the town/city of Wetaskiwin.
Ingeborg Anna's date of death or location of death is not proven, although I suspect she died sometime between Jun of 1906 and Jun 1911 on her daughter's farm in the Lewisville, Alberta district.
Below I have provided some additional information and detail regarding Gilbert and Gea Svensen. As well, the Legacy database and research note sections includes additional information on individual family members. I am including this complete article in the research notes section for Gea Svensen (Gea Augustdatter Søndmør). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On findagrave Alexis Kuzmick has posted: Gilbert and Gena Svensen were married somewhere in the United States on January 25, 1886, possibly in Minnesota, where Gena was living in 1880, or North Dakota, where their first children were born, or somewhere in between. They left their farm in North Dakota in 1896 and immigrated to northern Alberta, very near Wetaskiwin, where Gilbert took up the homestead that would become their home for many years.

On 27 May 1918, when he was just two months shy of his 19th birthday, Sam volunteered to fight in World War I. His enlistment form says he was 5' 7", with blue eyes and brown hair, and a "fresh" complexion. He was working as a chauffeur at the time, and listed his father Gilbert as his next of kin. On 11 July 1924, he served as best man to Walter Greiner, who was marrying Sam's youngest sister, Agnes. Sam himself married Rose Dorothy Tooke some years later, having and raising their children in the area. (she is linked, but only gives date

Gilbert Svensen - homestead files
1. It appears that he first had applied or made his intentions known to the Wetaskiwin Land Office for homestead on NW¼ Sec 6, Twp 45, Range 20 [this is in the Edberg area '96 Twp Rd 450 and between Range Rd 200 and 201; about 2.5 kms north of Edberg off Range Rd 200 and about 2.5 kms south and then about 10.5 east of New Norway ; the land likely includes the western side/shore of Dried Meat Lake], 17 Jan 1897
2. Declaration of Abandonment '96 declared at the land office and signed on 14 Jun 1897. " [land description] ... I, Gilbert Svenson, ...That I made enter _ [y ?] for the above mentioned lands.... at Wetaskiwin [land office] on 14 Jan 1897 and I now ask to be permitted to take up another homestead for the following reasons, via: land not suitable for farming ... I [was] Never in Residence

A further inspector's note of 16 Aug 1897 [image1888] notes that the previous improvements on this land were of no value [building and fencing removed] and although there had been some breaking, the land had gone to weeds and that this was "...a material injury to the land..."
Gilbert had written a letter/note (images 1890-1891, but faded; [received by the land office 11 Dec 1900, dated stamped]) about the land and his improvements: dwelling, 18 x 25; a 26 foot well; barn, 20 x 50, with horse and cow stable combined; chicken house 12 x 16; granary 20 x 28; over 50 acres of land cultivation; 400 rods of barb wire fencing. Gilbert further states that he [and his family] moved into the buildings on 15 May 1898 and has lived there since. On further documents [image1896] it is noted by Homestead Inspector report of 17 Oct 1901 that the value of improvements total $610, including a log and frame built house, 18 x 28. This same report notes that Gilbert has 21 cattle, 8 horses, 3 sheep and 16 pigs. A further page [image 1897] Gilbert reports that the house was built in Feb 1898 and since May 1898 he, his wife and 6 children have lived there. The Dominion Land Office granted patent that was issued to Gilbert on 2 Feb 1902. - there are a number of pages in this file record, and some additional names - Gilbert's first page for his information is on image 1894 and he says he made entry on 3 Aug 1897 - Gilbert appears to have requested to purchase, NE¼ Sec 36, Twp 43, Range 23, [image 1911] but the letter dated 29 Jul 1930 says this land has been set aside for school purposes [land description is different from post -1930 SL file; and I don't think this has been digitized]

*** Ingeborg Anna - not recorded - in 1911 she would have been 71 - did she die? - Kuzmick family tree has a death record for 7 Jul 1912 at Hennepin Co, MN (no info added); - it is unlikely this is correct. It doesn't make sense that at that age she would have gone to Minneapolis - unless she had other children living there, but there is no indication of other children - It is more likely that she died before 1911 and there is a burial on the farm or in the vicinity (nothing on findagrave)

US Evangelical Lutheran Church Records -- NOT Confirmed, Our Savior's, Oakes, Dickey Co (image 14/24); a few early records in 1891 to early 1900 Samuel Harvey, born 21 July 1891 bap 13 Nov 1892, parents Gilbert Svendsen og hustra; if this was the case, then this "Samuel Harvey" likely died before 1899 when the "other Samuel Harvey was born"
- Oakes, Dickney Co is about 185 kms south and west of Fargo - Ellendale, Dickney Co is about 60 kms south and west of Oakes
1885 Dakota Territory Census (indexed at <https://library.ndsu.edu/db/census/> ) - no record for Gilbert Svensen (or Svendsen) in Dakota or Dickey Co; no Ingeborg Anna, no Gea or Gena - thus, not likely in Dakota yet
Bureau of Land Management '96 homestead records - no record for Gilbert Svensen
11. Gilbert Svensen - birth 24 Jun 1856 in Norway (but no indication of location)
- Gilbert is an unusual given for a Norwegian, so his given is likely something else and he "adopted" Gilbert when he moved to the US - general person search on Digitalarkivet shows only one person born in 1856 with a second name as Svensen - Julius Svensen, born 30 Jun 1856 at Kråstad parish [?], Akershus Co, Norway [abt 50 kms south of Olso), father Svend Pettersen
- clue - Marit Svendsdatter Øversjøen-Nygaard born 16 Jan 1863 to Halstein Svendsen from Øversjod and Goro Jacobsdatter Sønmør; Marit's obit link from findagrave, <http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=29700162> could Gilbert be a brother to Halstein Svendsen ?? or a son ??? Gilbert ... Svendsen - Halstein Svendsen born 9 Mar 1840 from Øversøe '96 but very hard to make out the name of parents, but Svend Hålssen ??? [actually, Halstensen ... and Marit Jonsdtr on Øversjodalen ??? ; check - Tolga Slekt website (link, <http://www.tolgaslekt.no/?p=1393> ) Os in Tolga Klokkerbok link, <https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/9224/81> - the youngest son of Halsten Svendsen was Jacob born in 1854 and died 1854. I have looked in births to 1858, but no further births to Halsten Svendsen
SO, this hunch is NOT likely correct - Gilbert Svensen was not a part of this family
12. Mecca Glen Memories - community history book (on Our Roots ....) 1968 by the Mecca Glen Centennial Community, Ponoka, Alberta - there is one minor reference to Gilbert Svensen on top of page 28 - on page 27 there is an 'article' for "Andrew Vold Family" by Roy Vold. In the last paragraph on page 27, "In November [1896] Dad went by train to the Dakotas and brought up two or three boxcars of settler's effects and livestock. On the same train [to page 28] came Ragnavold Ravnsborg, Alex Woyen, Gilbert Svenson, and Jorgan Asker ....." - earlier on page 27 .... homesteaded in Dicky County near a village called Oakes.
- the above is noted in an Ancestry Public Member Tree, 'Mecca Glen Memories' owner BuckmanL47 with last login in Apr 2016; only very basic and very little information on Gilbert Svensen family.

Noted events in her life were:
1. Residence - 1896, Nov 1896, Dickey County, North Dakota, United States. 6189 There are a couple of community history books that cover the Lewisville, Alberta area. However, neither are on line and are only available at some public libraries in Alberta.
Mecca Glen Memories (Ponoka) has one reference to Gilbert Svensen. This reference is part of the story for the "Andrew Vold Family" written by Roy Vold (pages 27 & 28), " "In November [1896] Dad went by train to the Dakotas and brought up two or three boxcars of settler's effects and livestock. On the same train came Ragnavold Ravnsborg, Alex Woyen, Gilbert Svenson, and Jorgan Asker .....". Earlier on page 27 it is noted that the Vold family homesteaded in Dickey County near the village of Oakes
2. Land - Homestead Entry, 14 Jan 1897, Edberg, Alberta, Canada. 6190 Alberta Homestead Records (film reel #2040, file # 433261) record that Gilbert Swensen made a Homestead entry for NW¼ Sec 6. Twp 45, Range 21, W4th. In this homestead file there is also an "Declaration of Abandonment" of this homestead date 14 Jun 1897. Gilbert wrote that this land is not suitable for farming and that he never was in residence. This land is in the Edberg area '96 Twp Rd 450 and between Range Rd 200 and 201; about 2.5 kms north of Edberg off Range Rd 200 and about 2.5 kms south and then about 10.5 east of New Norway; the land likely includes the western side/shore of Dried Meat Lake.
3. Land Homestead - 1897, 3 Aug 1897, Lewisville, Alberta, Canada. 6191 Alberta Homestead Records record that Gilbert Svensen made a homestead entry on 3 Aug 1897. The land location was, NE¼ sec 14, Twp 44, Range 23. This area is in the Lewisville area and the local post office was Lewisville. Gilbert's land was about 6 kms east and then about 16 kms south from Wetaskiwin.
Gilbert Svensen's homestead file notes that he and his wife and 6 children lived on the farm beginning on 5 May 1898 - see Research notes section for more detail from the homestead file.
4. Residence - 1901, 31 Mar 1901, Lewisville, Alberta, Canada. 6192 The area that Gilbert and Gea Svensen homesteaded was known as the Lewisville community, with a post office established on 1 Nov 1893 (location, Sec. 1, Twp. 45, R. 23, W4M). This area is about 25 kms south and east of Wetaskiwin.
5. Residence 1906, 24 Jun 1906, Lewisville, Alberta, Canada. 6193
6. Residence - 1911, 1 Jun 1911, Lewisville, Alberta, Canada. 6194
7. Residence - 1916, 24 Jun 1916, Lewisville, Alberta, Canada. 6195 Homestead farm
8. Residence 1921, 1 Jun 1921, Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada. 6196
Gea married Gilbert Svensen on 25 Jan 1886 in United States.6197 (Gilbert Svensen was born on 24 Jun 1856 in Norway,6187,6197 died on 23 Nov 1934 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada 6187 and was buried in Wetaskiwin Cemetery, Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada 6187.)
Noted events in their marriage were:
1. Marriage - 1886, 25 Jan 1886, United States. 6197,6198 The Kuzmick family tree does not record location. I have researched MN Marriages, US Evangelical Church records and other google searches (including options in North Dakota) but I cannot find their location of marriage.
I found one original source that indicates their marriage date (but not location). This is from the newspaper Wetaskiwin Times (8 Feb 1906, page 1). The following is a partial transcription of the article titled "Baeili Lake" with subtitle of "China Wedding": "The home of Gilbert Svensen was the scene of a pleasant surprise on Thursday January 25th, the occasion being the 20th anniversary of their wedding." This would then indicate the marriage date as 25 Jan 1886.
