In the valley where Uman river gushed before the last glaciation is the elongated Lake Paulträstek. The distance from the Ume River to Paulträst is not greater than about two miles [Swedish mile, equalling about 20 kms]
And certainly, the lake was known since "time immemorial" by hunters and fishermen, but no land hungry young man had received a farm homestead for himself there until year 1763.

The traditional telling of the start of the village [is that the first settler] came from the west, and went up on Alsberget to look around, and he then got sight of a large, beautiful lake. It was Paulträsket. He went to the lake, and there he settles [tells the tale].

But in reality, he came from the East. It was the farmhand Lars Larsson from Rusele, grandson of the Finn Håkan Eriksson in Örträsk.

Lars had become an orphan. His father Lars Håkansson died the same year he was born, and his mother died when he was ten years old. Since then [age 10?] [or because he was an orphan with no farm] he was a farmhand for many years, and surely he longed for a home. With very few exceptions those who strove to establish or find a suitable place for new buildings and a farm, and who had established a place before the age of 22 did not have to risk being taken to the soldier [at age 22, the year would have to be about 1755].

Probably constable Matt Rusen in Rusele had suggested to Lars to settle at Paulträsket, and helped him to write to the governor and request the necessary permission. It was also Sheriff Rusen together with the [informal judge] lay Anders Israelsson in Kattisavan and Jon Olofsson in Arvträsk that on 3 July 1763 officiated at the sight of the "new settlement opportunity as Lars Larsson had exhibited by Paulsträket.

Lars Larsson was married to Anna Jonsdottor from Björksele. [? Although she was of Finnish härsrammning. **, see below ]

Her grandmother was Helena from Knaften and Lars' grandmother Brita who was from Örträsk were daughters of the Finn Mats Hindersson in Armsjö. Anna's brother Johan Jonsson who was to marry Anna Danielsdotter from Burträsk, had reached an agreement with his future brother-in-law, Lars, to settle at Paulträst for half of farm [ estate ].

Lars Larsson's active life was changed in 1801 in a sudden death; he was gorged an ox.

Surprisingly, not one of his children seemed to have wanted to take possession of the new farm/settlement. It must have been compelling circumstances that made all five siblings left his parents' home.

Jonas Larsson moved to Vilhelmina
Matts Larsson moved to Björkberg
Catharina (married with Olof Larsson from Tuvträsk till Hedmark
Mårten and Lars Larsson ended up in Sorsele

[ Although she was of Finnish härsrammning. ]
- Suggest the word is härstamning = descent).
I looked under "define Swedish etc." and they suggested the corrected spelling.
