Written by Rueben D Grue, 14 Dec 2015; modified and updated, 23 Mar 2016
Introduction:
This article/sketch shows the connection between my Löfgren and Näslund ancestors. Of course I always knew that my grandpa Jonas was born Jonas August Löfgren and my grandma Jonas was born Anna Margareta Näslund. Their marriage joined the two families. As I have been researching the ancestors of each family line (Lofgren and Naslund) I've discovered other links connecting the two families (see concluding comments).
A common ancestor of both the Löfgren and Näslund families was a man named Erik Eriksson (Ersson). We know very little about him, but most researcher note that his birth is estimated sometime between 1640 and 1650. He likely was born in the rural area of Umeå parish, possibly in the Mjösjö area, about 50 kms east of the current town of Umeå in Västerbotten län (county). His date of death is unknown, but likely sometime in the 1670's. The name of his wife is also not known. He had at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. His two sons were named Erik Eriksson and Häkan Eriksson. The name of his daughter is not known, but her burial is recorded as 29 Mar 1714 in the Lycksele parish records ("Erik Eriksson's sister in Knaften").
In researching the Lofgen and Naslund families I have made extensive use of the Sweden Church Records. By using the Husförhörsbok records (or household examinations), it is possible to trace an ancestor family to the earliest records available. The Husförhörsbok records are unique to Sweden. A church law in the late 1600's required the priest or parish minister to keep a record of all persons in the parish, family by family. The priest "examined" the person's knowledge of the some parts of the Lutheran catechism. This was usually done annually and recorded in the Husförhörsbok (by the 1900's the Husförhörsbok was replaced by the "Congregational records or parish books"). Although there are variations in the Husförhörsboks from parish to parish, most record the name of the farm or locality the family lived/worked at, the name and date of birth of the "head of the household" and his wife (along with their marriage date), children, and servants or farm workers. Often the Husförhörsbok also recorded a person's movement from one farm/locatily to another. The Sweden Church Records also records chronologically births, deaths, marriages in different books.
In this article, I have followed the most direct family line. Of course, there are many more ancestors if I also followed the spouse's family/ancestors. I have used the Legacy Family Tree software and on this database I will be able to follow more of the maternal and spouse's ancestors and over time, I will be writting additional biographical sketches. When reading this article (and generally reseaching Swedish genealogy) it is important to note that Sweden used patronymic naming patterns; a fixed family surnames started to occur in the mid to late 1800's. A patronymic naming pattern means that a son or daughter was named with a given name (later years, there were two given names) and the name of the father with either the suffix 'son' or 'dotter'. For example, Anders Andersson was the son of Anders; Katharina Andersdotter was the daughter of Anders. In Sweden, many people had the same given name and this meant that many people may have had the patronymic name of Anders Andersson, but all people with the 'last name' Andersson or Andersdotter are not necessarily related. Family relationships usually can only be determined using birth records or the Husförhörsbok records.
In addition to the the use of the Sweden Church Records, I have used various webistes and other sources as indicated.
Part One: Häkan Eriksson
Häkan Eriksson is my 5th great grandfather on my Lofgren side of the family. An earlier spelling of his name was Häkan Ersson. There is very little "primary" information on the Häkan Eriksson other than his burial on 6 Feb 1737 in Örträsk, Lycksele parish, Västerbotten län (county) in Sweden (Sweden Church Records). I have not found very much written information on Häkan Eriksson. What little information there is, is from various websites, some that indicate sources from Västerbotten court records, but I have not independently reviewed the court records.
It is likely that Häkan was born in the rural parts of Umeå parish, Västerbotten. The farm/locality is unknown, although some researchers have indicated he was from the Armjsö farm in the rural areas surrounding Umeå and later included as part of Nordamling parish. Although I am not completely certain, some researchers have indicated that the locality is also known as Mjösjö, near the lake Mjösjö, about 25-50 kms east of the current city of Umeå. The researcher, Thomas Börjesson (and noted in the writings of Ossian Egerbladh) , indcated that this was a "Finn community" and that Häkan and his brother Erik were "goat boys or herders" [getarpojkar] in Mjösjö . Most researchers indicate that Häkan's father was Erik Eriksson born between 1640-1650 in Umeå parish and that he was a Finnlander. The ancestry of this Erik Eriksson in Finland is not known. Thomas Börjesson notes that while living at Mjösjö, the boys' mother was a widow.
As the boys grew up, researcher Thomas Börjesson notes that Erik worked as a farmhand for the Finn Erik Johansson at Bjerten, while Håkan worked as a farmhand with Matt Olofsson in Mjösjö. Later on, the two brothers were married to the daughters of the Finn, Mats Hindersson in Armsjön and moved there as farmhands. Erik married Helena Matsdotter, possibly in 1694. Häkan married Brita Matsdotter, the daughter of Mats Hindersson. I do not know the year when Häkan Eriksson and Brita Matsdotter were married but likely before 1693, the date when their oldest child was born. These marriages connect our family to the Finn family Hindersson who were early settlers to Västerbotten lappland.
Another family researcher, Lars Walfridsson notes that Häkan Eriksson (along with Lars Olofsson) had left his homestead in Umeå around 1706 for Lappland. This homestead in Umeå parish had remained deserted until 1722-23 when a person by the name of Matts Häkansson (it is not clear if this was a son of Häkan) appears to have had an annual licence on the farm. Lars Walfridsson further notes a court book of 1744 indicates Häkan Eriksson left his homestead in Lycksele parish to his eldest son Matts (this maybe the same Matts Häkansson).
Häkan Eriksson likely came to Örträsk in Lycksele parish in 1706 from Nordmaling parish. There is a record from Nordmaling parish records that likely shows he was living at the farm Armsjö in 1704 with his wife Brita Matsdotter (1674-1745). In the earliest available Husförhörsbok for Lycksele parish (1742-1759, page 95) Erik Häkansson birth is recorded as 1707; this Erik is Häkan Eriksson and Brita's fifth child. However, I have not found the birth record for this Erik Häkansson. He is not recorded in the birth records for either Nordmaling or Lycksele parish, and so it is not possible to determine the place of Erik's birth. Most researchers have indicated that he was born Nordmaling parish on the farm Armsjö. If this is the case, then Häkan Eriksson would have come to Örträsk, Lycksele parish sometime in 1707 rather than 1706.
It appears that there were a number of Finns from the Armsjö/Mjösjö areas that came to Örträsk area and began the settlement. The earliest settler was my 7th great-grandfather, Johan Philipsson Hilduinen (1620-1697) who came as early as 1678 (see his 'biographical sketch'). A couple of years later, Mårten Hindersson (Henriksson) came; Mårten's second marriage was to Margareta Johansdotter, the daughter of Johan Philipsson Hilduinen. Mårten Hindersson (Henriksson) was also an uncle of Håken Eriksson's wife, Brita Matsdotter (he was a brother to Brita's father, Matts Hindersson). Other early settlers to the Örträsk area were Lars Oloffson and Pål Pehrsson (there is likely a family connection, but at this writing I have not researched this in any detail). The early history of the Östräst area was recorded in some of the writings of Ossian Egerbladh; his work is often noted by a number family researchers including Dan Emanualsson, Christer Wikström, Gun Wiklund, Michael Persson, Thomas Stenholm, and Thomas Borjesson. I have made extensive use of these researchers database (see Appendix for list of sources). Many of these researchers have also noted the work of Sven-Erik Johansson through his Kråken database (some of the Kråken database is available on the internet for the later years, but for the years prior to 1701 are only available by purchase).
I have very little added information on Häkan Eriksson, other than names of descendants. There is a bit more information written about his brother, Erik Eriksson (1669-1752).
Häkan Eriksson and Brita Matsdotter had 7 children. Our direct line ancestor was their child known as Häkan Häkansson Öhrman (1713-1806). I'm not sure of the origin of the surname Öhrman. I have not found much information on him, other than by the 1759 Husförhörsbok he was recorded as Länsman Öhrman. A Länsman is a "sheriff or ballif in the district". Häkan Häkansson Öhrman was married twice and had 16 sixteen children (4 or 5 children died as infants; I haven't been able to find all the death records for the children). Häkan Häkansson Öhrman's first wife was Anna Persdotter (1725-1765) and his second wife was Sophia Samuelsdotter (1745-1831). It is through Sophia Samuelsdotter and her ancestor line that we can trace our family back to Johan Philipsson Hilduinen (1620-1697).
Anna Häkansdotter Öhrman (1771-?) was the daughter of Häkan Häkansson Öhrman and Sophia Samuelsdotter and she was the mother of Nathanael Löfgren (1801-1883). We do not know the name of Nathanael's father. Nathanael was born out of wedlock (oäkta) and the name of the father was not recorded in the birth record. One record (family sheet from Jim and Roger Lofgren in Jul 2015) records that Nathanael's father was a "Rysk Officer" [Russian Officer]; however, this is not proven and I have not found any further information on this.
In the Husförhörsbok for Lycksele parish (years 1810-1817, page 8), Anna Häkansdotter is recorded with her mother's household at Örträsk (her father had died in 1806). Then on page 147, she is recorded at the "farm/locality" BostållsLöse Hionelag (it is possible that this "farm/locality" is actually a listing of people who were not attached to a specific farm but worked as laborers day by day on different farms). This record records Anna Örman, born 1771 and on the next line "Oägt S. Nathanaël", born 1801 (out of wedlock son, Nathanael). Anna's sister, Margreta Örman, born 1774, is recorded next followed by "Oägt S. Pehr Erik", born 1804. The only year noted for Anna is 1810; for Margreta, 1810 and 1816. have found very little further information on Anna Häkansdotter (1771-?). There is somewhat more information on Nathanael Löfgren (1801-1883), but I have included this discussion in Nathanael's Biographical Sketch.
Part Two: Erik Eriksson
Erik Eriksson is my 7th great grandfather on my Naslund side of the family. As indicated above, he is the brother to Häkan Eriksson (1670-1737). His father was the Finn Erik Eriksson (born about 1640), but little is known about his father. Erik Eriksson (1669-1752) grew up in the Mjösjö area. This area later became a part of Nordmaling parish; some researchers record that he lived at the farm Armsjö, Nordmaling parish. I think that this is the same area as Mjösjö.
Thomas Börjesson, a family researcher, indicates that Erik Eriksson (1669-1752) had left Nordmaling parish in 1698 to go to Örträst and then by 1702, Erik Eriksson moved to the farm Knaften in Lycksele parish. Erik had bought a 'torp' (torp, meaning a settler's farm) from his brother-in-law, Johan Johansson in Örträsk called Bostället. A year later, he sold it to Pål Pehrsson and joined his brother-in-law, Johan Johansson, at Knaften. In 1702 Erik Eriksson was granted a 15 year tax exemption from the government and so it is likely this is the year he moved to Knaften (Knaptselet). The government at the time granted tax exemptions as a way to encourage settlement of the southern Lappland. Erik Eriksson' son, Jonas Eriksson was christened on 14 Aug 1702 at Lycksele parish, and was from the farm Knaften (see Lycksele births, vol C:1, image 7 on ancestry). Researcher Börjesson provided a lengthy post regarding Erik Eriksson (see my document, "Häkan Eriksson and Erik Eriksson, research notes and comments"). Most of my information on Erik Eriksson and some of the early comments on Häkan Eriksson derive from my basic translation of this post of Thomas Börjesson).
In 1717 there was a court or government ruling that granted those settlers in Knaftenthe tax exemption. Johan Johansson (Erik's brother-in-law) died in February 1718; he had owned the land in Knaften that was first settled by Mats Hindriksson and later owned by Mats Mattson, the son of Mats Hindriksson. "Erich Eriksson and Johan Johansson's widow and his son recevied permission to use and farm Mats Matsson's land. But it appears there were a number with other Finns in Örträsk who disagreed with this ruling. But Erik Eriksson received a favorable resolution from the governor [at Grundelsgården, ?] on 10 Sep 1722. This gave Erik Eriksson exclusive hunting and fishing rights throughout the area. Neither lapps or settlers, or even Erik's neighbors in Knaften, would be able to intrude on his hunting grounds and in his fishing waters. The settlers in Örträsk received certain conditions that allowed them to use forests and fish in the lake and pursue "beaver fishing".
It appears that Erik Eriksson's farm at Knaften was on a fairly good piece of land near the lake ( Bostället). Thomas Borjesson had posted a note that appears to be from Ossian Egerbladh's work regarding the "slash/burn" technique of land clearing. It seems that the traditional way the Finn settlers in this area (maybe throughout forested areas in southern and northern Sweden and Finland) cleared land was to set fires to the forest. Sometimes, they tried to sow some grain in the clearings, but usually the clearings simply allowed for more open grazing for the sheep, goats or cows. Additionally, the forest fires tended to drive away wolves and other pedators from the houses etc. After a couple of years, another area had to be clear (using slash and burn), with the older area becoming overgrowing with grasses, creating more summer grazing for the cattle. In this way, a numbered of areas were cleared over time. Eventually, some of the natural meadows and some of these clearings allowed for improved soil and the growing of small plots of grains (usually rye and barley).
Apparently Erik Eriksson had a number of slash/burn clearings. He was also good at cultivating crops, despite many unfavorable conditions that included the rocky and thin soil, and perhaps above all recurrent devastating late summer frosts. He was also known as a small man with body weaknesses. But in a survey ordinance in 1726, it was noted that Erik Eriksson had about 41 kappland [an old unit of measure, equaling about 1.56 acres] of well-maintained fields, whereas his neighbor Erik Johansson, who inherited the village's oldest farm, had no more than 17 kappland [0.65 acres]. By 1738 Erik Erikson's homestead had produced 3 barrels of grain, along with 14 cows and two horses. His neighbor, Erik Johansson had two barrels of grain land along with six cows and a horse.
As indicated above, Erik Eriksson married Helena Matsdotter likely in 1694. From what is known, they had 8 children (6 boys and 2 girls). Their oldest son Erik Eriksson (1695-1770) had stayed in or possibly moved back to Nordmaling parish. Their youngest daughter was Anna Eriksdotter (1715-1795). She was married in 1733 at Östräst in Lycksele parish to Samuel Samuelsson (1710-1782). One of their children was Sophia Samuelsdotter (1745-1831), the second wife of Häkan Häkansson Öhrman and the mother of Anna Häkansdotter (Nathanael Löfgren's mother). Anna Eriksdotter (1715-1795) was actually the great-grandmother of Nathanel Löfgren, and this creates another family connection for 'our' Löfgren's and Näslund's.
A son of Erik Eriksson and Helena Matsdotter was Jonas Eriksson (1702-1783). Jonas was also known as Jon Eriksson. Jon Eriksson (1702-1783) was born at the farm Knaften in Lyskele parish (see birth records, vol C:1, image 7 on Ancestry with Farm/locality of parents as Knaften). He married Caren (Karin) Johansdotter, 1703-1787 (some researchers record her name as Katarina). They were married around 1727 in Lycksele according to researcher Dan Emanualsson (although their marriage was not recorded in the Lycksele parish records). The earliest Husförhörsbok for Lycksele (1742-1759) records Jon Eriksson and Caren Johansdotter living at the farm Borksjon or Björksele (likely the same place but different spelling). His family is also recorded as living on the farm Björksele in the Husförhörsbok for the years 1759-1769. It is likely that Jon Eriksson and Caren Johansdotter lived at Björksele most of their life. Jon died on 21 Jan 1783 at the age of 80 years with his residence recorded as Björksele (Lycksele Parish, Deaths 1778- 1831). Caren Johansdotter died in 1786.
Jon Eriksson (1702-1783) and Caren Johansdotter (1703-1786) had at least 10 children. One of their sons was Johan Jonsson (1732-1824), our direct line ancestor. He grew up on the farm Björksele. In 1765 Johan Jonsson married Anna Danielsdotter (1736-1810). By the time of his marriage he had moved to the farm Pauträsk. In the Husförhörsbok for Lycksele (years 1742-1759, page 19), Johan and Anna are recorded along with an infant son, Jonas (Jonas was born in Jan of 1767 and by Apr of 1767 he had died). Johan and Anna continued to live and work at Pauträsk, although there is a gap in the Husförhörsbok records for Lycksele parish for the years 1769-1788. The next that we find Johan Jonsson and his wife Anna is on page 44 of the 1788-1809 vol of the Lycskele Husförhörsbok. Here, Anna's sister (Elizabet Danielsdotter, born 1734) is living with the family. Their children are recorded: Catharina born 1768 (there is a reference to her marriage in 1793 to Eric Matsson); Nils Johansson born in 1769 was married in 1793 to Anna Matsdotter (living/working at Pauträsk); Anna Barbo born in 1771 (with a reference to her second marriage to Pehr Olofsson; they are living/working at the farm Åskilje, page 54; her first marriage was to Mårten Mårtensson); Jonas born 22 Jul 1773; Maria born 1 Aug 1775 (with a reference to her marriage to Hans Eliasson [?] in 1793 and moving to Vilhelmina [Wolga] with their son Johannes). Johan Jonsson and Anna Danielsdotter were one of the first settlers on Pauträsk. They came to Paultäst as early as 1764, along with Johan's sister and her husband, Anna Jonsdotter and Lars Larsson. Around 1670 an government commission had travelled into the area known at that time as Sami Tax country looking for possible places where people could settle. A building site was identified on the southwest side of the lake Pauträskket. But it wasn't until 1764 that a new homestead was built at Pauträsk and this was on the north and east side of the lake, likely on a bay or islet of the lake. One resource notes that Johan Jonsson did not build on the site until 1768 (however, the Husförhör book for 1759-1769, page 19, records Johan Jonsson at the Pauträsk farm in 1766; Lars Larsson is recorded in 1762. A stone cairn was erected on the site of the first homes on Pauträsk, noting the first two settlers as Lars Larsson and Johan Jonsson.
As already indicated Lars Larsson and Johan Jonsson were brother-in-laws. Lars Larsson's grandfather was Håkan Eriksson; his father was Lars Häkansson who was a brother to Häkan Häkansson Öhrman (the grandfather of 'our' Nathanael Löfgren). Johan's grandfather was Erik Eriksson; Håkan and Erik were brothers (see above).
Johan Jonsson and Anna Danielsdotter moved from Lycksele to Vilhelmina parish and to the farm Bäcksele, living/working on their son in law's farm, Hans Eliasson. They came to Vilhelmina parish before 1800, likely with their son Nils Johansson. Anna died in Mar 1810 and according the church records, Johan Jonnson remarried in 1811 to Susanna Eriksdotter. Susanna was the daughter of Erik Eliasson from Åsele parish; she was born 22 May 1746. Johan and Susanna did not have any children. Johan Jonsson died on 6 Oct 1824.
None of Johan Jonsson's children stayed on Pauträsk. Johan Jonsson and Anna Danielsdotter's son, Nils Johansson (1769-1850) was our next direct line ancestor. Nils Johansson married Anna Matsdotter in Jun 1793 at Lycksele parish. Their son, Johannes (Johan) Nilsson, was born in 1795 in Lycksele parish. However, as early as 1800 but possibly earlier, Nils Johansson and his wife, Anna Matsdotter (1775-1868) had moved from Lycskele to Vilhelmina parish. Nils Johansson and Anna's next child was daughter Anna who was born in April 1800 and at that time they were living/working at the farm Vålgsele in Vilhelmina parish. Nils Johannson later moved to the farm Tresund where the family lived for a number of years. It appears that he had bought one-half of Daniel Nilsson's new settlement/homestead at Tresund ("Old Villages" by O F Petterson, vol 1, page 318). Nils and Anna are recorded in the Vilhelmina Husförhörsbok (1804-1820, image 50) with the first year at Tresund as 1804. By 1820, Nils bought the new builing/settlement at Dikänas (in the 1830-1840 Husförhörsbok, Nils and Anna are recorded at Dikanäs, also known as Gikanäs). In Nov 1833, Nils sold Dikanäs ("Old Villages" by O F Petterson, vol 1, page 279) and some of the family moved to the farm Sunnansjö.
Nils Johansson, along with his son Nils Nilsson (born 1808) had applied in Jul 1834 for a new settlement or homestead at Sunnansjö which is about 10-15 kms south of Dikanäs. The records show that they were granted this, but because the flat lands near the lake were not arable, they also were granted 10 years in order to excavate and drain the area. Court records show that they had made good progress by Jul 1846 (see pages 266-267 of Petterson's book).
Nils Johansson and Anna continued to live at Sunnansjö. Nils died in 1850. Anna Matsdotter died 1868 at the age of 93. Their son, Nils Nilsson and his family continued to live and work at Sunnasjö. Nils Nilsson (born 1808) is recorded in 1890 Sweden Census at the farm Sunnansjö.
The other children of Nils Johansson and Anna Matsdotter moved to other places after the family left the farm Dikanäs. Son Erik Christoffer Nilsson (born 1813) married and established another home at the farm Sunnasjö. Mathias Nilsson (born in 1806) married and lived at Tresund and by 1840, he was living at Lill Kittelfjäl also known as Henriksfjäll. For awhile, son Jonas worked at Tresund. He then applied for a new settlement/hometead in 1846 at Långtvist, that later was a part of the farm Storsele. Jonas married in 1840 to Stina Elisabeth Pehrsdotter who died in 1852; his second marriage was to Gertrud Katarina Larsdotter. Jonas Nilsson continued to live and work at Storsele. Nils Johansson and Anna Matsdotter's daughter, Anna did not marry; she died in 1823. Nils and Anna's other daughter, Susanna (born 1800) married in 1821 to Anders Matson (born 1797). They continued to live and work at Tresund. They had 11 children in total; three died at infants. Susanna died in 1837; she had given birth to twins in 1836 with one twin dying in 1836 and the other in 1837.
Johan Nilsson (1795-1890) was the eldest son of Nils Johansson and Anna Matsdotter and our next direct line ancestor. Some records record his given name as Johannes. Johan Nilsson was married in Jan 1821 to Brita Stina Pålsdotter and he had taken over the farm on Tresund from his father (Nils Johansson) and lived/worked there until around 1843. Johan and Brita Stina had moved to Nästansjö prior to May 1844 since their youngest daughter, Martha Erika was born in May 1844 and at that time the family was living at Nästansjö. Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina Pålsdotter continued to live and work at Nästansjö throughout the rest of their lives. Brita Stina Pålsdotter died in 1869 at the age of 79. Johan Nilsson continued to live at Nästansjö. Johan died in 1890 at the age 94.
Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina Pålsdotter had 9 children (one child, Mikael Justus died in infancy - he was born in 1828 and died in 1829). Their son, Erik Johan (1830-1897) is our next direct ancestor, my 2nd great-grandfather. He was the first to use the surname Näslund. He lived and worked at Nästansjö. I have written a separate 'biographical sketch' for him and my great-grandfather, Johan Nikolaus Näslund.
Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina Pålsdotter oldest daughter, Anna Catharina Johansdotter was married to Paulus (Pål) Johansson in 1841 and they lived/worked at Tresund. They likely took over Johan Nilsson's place in Tresund. Daughter Gertrud Brita (born 1823) was married to Anders Thomasson in 1848; they lived/worked on the farm Liden. Son Nils Petter Johansson (born 1826) married in 1848 to Stina Magdelina Thomasdotter; they lived/worked on Tresund until 1852. Around 1852 Nils Petter Johansson moved to the farm Kittelfjäll and around in 1864 he and his family moved to Tärna parish (to the north of Vilhelmina). Nils Petter Johansson died in 1912 at the farm Umfors in Tärna parish. Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina's son, Mathias Andreas Johansson married three times. His first marriage was in 1855 was to Anna Petronnella Abramhamsdotter and they had 9 children; she died in 1886. Mathias Andreas Johansson's second marriage in 1887 was to Katharina Lovisa Johansdotter and they had 4 children (I haven't found the date of her death). The third marriage of Mathais Andreas was in 1902 to Greta Gustafva Eliasdotter; they had one child. Mathais Andreas died in 1911 at the farm Brännåker; his other children married and moved from Nästansjö. For a few years, Mathais Andreas Johansson lived and worked at the farm Liden and later at Sjulsmark; around 1868 he then went to the farm Brännåker where he lived and worked until he died.
Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina Pålsdotter's seventh child was Christina (Stina) Mathilda Johansdotter (born 1835). She was married in 1871 to Erik Johansson. They lived and worked on the farm Nyluspen; they had 2 children. She died in 1920 at Nyluspen. Johan and Brita Stina's next child, Eva Carolina Johansdotter (born 1837). Eva Carolina was not married and she had no children; she lived and worked on the farm with her parents and then later with her sister, Martha Erika. I have not determined Eva Carolina's date of death. Martha Erika Johansdotter (born 1844) was Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina's youngest child. She was married to Gabriel Emanuel Jakobsson in 1882. They moved a number of times from Nyluspen to Sjulsmark. Martha Erika Johansdotter died in 1908; I have not found children recorded.
As indicated above, see the separate biographical sketch for Erik Johan Näslund, the fifth child of Johan Nilsson and Brita Stina Pålsdotter.
Concluding Comments:
In the introduction, I noted that there are a number of instances of inter-family connections and relationships with the Löfgren's and the Näslund's.
We have 2 common ancestors, with the first common ancestor, Erik Eriksson (born between 1640 and 1650). This Erik Eriksson is the father of Häkan Eriksson (born about 1670); Häkan Eriksson is my 5 th great-grandfather on the Löfgren side of the family. Erik Eriksson (born between 1640-1650) is also the father of Erik Eriksson (born 1669) who is my 6 th great-grandfather on the Näslund side of the family.
Häkan Eriksson (b. 1670) married Brita Matsdotter. Erik Eriksson (b. 1669) married Helena Matsdotter. Both Brita and Helena were sisters; their father was Mats Hindriksson (b. 1610). This Mats Hindriksson would be my 6 th great-grandfather on the Löfgren side and my 7 th great-grandfather on the Näslund side. I have not done much research on Mats Hindriksson at the time of the writing of this article.
Additionally, one of Erik Eriksson (b. 1669) and Helena Matsdotter's (b. 1666) daughter, Anna Eriksdotter (b. 1705) was married to Samuel Samuelsson and their daughter, Sophia Samuelsdotter (b. 1745) was married to Häkan Häkansson Öhrman (b. 1713). Häkan Häkansson Öhrman's was the son Häkan Eriksson (b 1670) and his marriage to Sophia Sameulsdotter was his second marriage. Häkan Häkansson Öhrman is my 4 th great grandfather on the Löfgren side of the family. Sophia Sameulsdotter was my 4 th great grandmother on the Löfgren side of the family and at the same time was my 4 th great grandmother on the Näslund side of the family. One of the daughters of Häkan Häkansson Öhrman's second marriage to Sophia Sameulsdotter was Anna Häkansdotter and she was the mother of Nathaneal Löfgren.

.. The above database indicates that: Häkan Eriksson (or Ersson) was born about 1670 on the farm/locality of Armsjö in Nordamling parish, Västerbotten län (he died in 1737 in Lycskele, at age 67). He was married to Brita Mattsdotter born in 1674 in the area of Armsjö/Bjurholm in Nordamling parish, Västerbotten län (she died in 1745 in Lycskele)

- hard to read, but likely Häkan Eriksson and wife Brita, BUT no children recorded [? so this may be wrong ]
- also look at pages 49, 50 - there is a Nathanael Häkansson and a few other names recorded, but there is no farm or locality mentioned.

Håkan Eriksson. Found in Örträsk, Lycksele. Born around 1670 in Umeå in a rural parish of the city. Died 1737 in Örträsk Lycksele. DB 1709 20/7: He is said to be born in Umeå parish. A farmer in 1723 in Umeå parish: "These (He and Lars Olofsson) quit their homesteads in 1706 and moved to Lapland. In 1722 his homestead remained deserted, but by 1723 Matts Håkansson [ possibly '96 optagit ?] had an annual licence [ årsfrihet ?] on the homestead or on Lars Olsson's homestead." [DB ? ] In the legal book of 1692 concerns the possiblility that HE [Hakan Eriksson] in Hallen .... Håkan Eriksson i Hallen brukade måla och bildsnida samt vagabondera men blev årl. ???? ]. This was written by a brother, a farmhand, and likely would be written advantegously [ ? ]. DB 1744 9/1 in Lycksele: BM leaves the new building to the eldest son Matts who has it until his death. DB 1709 20/7: The district court asked the settlers in Lycksele parish who was born in Umeå parish and the response was that only Erik Eriksson, who was a small person and Håkan Eriksson were. Erik Eriksson was small but his sons " were large men of robust physique." (acc. Ossian Egerbladh).
1. b.
Christer Wikström's data on 2nd link: http://www.cweden.com/genealogy/cw/p4f3c6163.html The above link, reports some confusion regarding Häkan Eriksson. The Dombok of 1692 says he was at Hallen (as reported by Lars Walfridsson); the second 1696 talks about Häkan selling his farm in Örträst and then moving to Knaften and the one who bought his place was Pål Persson from Mjösjö. Source: judgment book in 1699: "The Finn Erich Erichsson in Armsjö" the year before bought the [farm ] from Mårten Henriksson's widow Margaret Johansdotter, farm in Örträsk for 76 dlr. kmt. However, Lapp Ingevald who was Marten's wife's half-brother and therefore her birthright, and the purchase was returned. But after the second hearing came Margaret's son-in-law [even though] Ingevald took care of the farm, citing his wife's birthright to the same. Erik's purchase was returned. Dombok 1709 20/7: The district court asked the settlers in Lycksele parish who was born in Umeå parish and the response was that only Erik Eriksson, who was small in stature, and Håkan Eriksson as were. Erik Eriksson was small but his sons were "large men of robust physique." (according to Ossian Egerbladh). Towards the end of his life Erik was living with his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Erik Nilsson. They had 11 children and lived in Knaften. Their son Nils was married and his wife was Margeta Mikaelsdotter and they had seven children and lived also in Knaften
2. father of Häkan Eriksson
Some record father's name as Erik Eriksson or Erik Ersson - Ersson does mean the son of Erik (see, http://www.algonet.se/~hogman/Naming%20practice_eng.htm ; accessed 25 Sept 2015

Thomas Stenholm records another child, Anna (supported by the church birth record). And then an unnammed child in 1726 - however, the church records do not record a child born to Häkan and Brita in 1726; this seems unlikely, 13 years after Häkan and Brita having a child at 52 years old?
b. son, Mats - see his notes 5556
Noted events in his life were:
1. Birth, 1670, Abt 1670, Umeå, Västerbotten, Sweden. 5557 The location of Häkan Eriksson's birth is uncertain. Most researchers indicate that his birth was in the rural areas of Umeå parish (Lars Walfridsson), with one researchers recording the place name of Mjösjö in Umeå parish (Christer Wikström.
2. Residence, 1704, 1704, Nordmaling, Västerbotten län, Sweden. 5558 Farm/locality: Armsjö. The Husförhör book for Nordmaling parish for the years 1704-1729 records Häkan and his wife Brita, but no children are recorded. It appears that no children were recorded in this volume. This volume is very hard to read due to the handwriting and overall this volume organization is confusing.
3. Death - 1737, 1737, Lycksele, Västerbotten, Sweden. 5559 The Sweden Church Records on deaths/burials indicate burial on 6 Feb 1737. However, the handwriting is very difficult to read, but is likely the correct record. Most family data researchers record burial as 6 Feb 1737.
Häkan married Brita Matsdotter, daughter of Matts Hindriksson and Unknown.5551 (Brita Matsdotter was born in 1674 in Nordmaling, Västerbotten län, Sweden,5560 died in 1745 in Lycksele, Västerbotten, Sweden 5561 and was buried on 18 Dec 1745 in Lycksele, Västerbotten, Sweden 5562.)
