Note: [added 15 Aug 2017]. There is some disagreement of Johan Philipsson Hilduinen (born about 1620). It is unlikely that he used the surname Hilduinen since that would have very unusual. The surname is likely an addition in the late 1800's, but likely even into the mid 1900's. [ see information on the use of FFN, mostly from Värmland] [Note: Hilduinen is a Finnish Family Name (FFN) and in some records it is used like a surname. There are some people today that use the FFN as a surname (for example, Niclas Persson Tehuinen)]
His place of birth is also uncertain. Many have recorded his birth as Kuusamo (parish) in Oulu County, in North Ostrobothnia [earlier called, Pohjanmaa lääni, Finland], and note that this was or is a part of Kemi Lappland. But others have said he was from Kymi, which is in the southern coast of Finland, east of Helenski.
Some researchers have noted that Johan Philipsson (born abt 1620) is not found in the Finish birth registers or church records. I have looked at the Finland Church Census and Pre-Confirmation Books, 1657-1915, on MyHeritage.com, but have not found him or his son, Samuel Johansson (who would be my direct line ancestor). BUT, one of the main difficulties I have (in Aug 2017) is a lack of understanding of the geography of Finland, Finnish spelling of parishes, or the organization of the Finnish Church books, etc.
Note: There are 2 researchers (1) Christer Rosenbahr [30 Jun 2008, p 6&7 of above article] and (2) Maud Wedin [24 May 2014, p 24] that note Johan Philipsson Hilduinen had another son, Anders born about 1657. Both note that Anders, along with Johan, were convicted of hunting violations in Ljusne, Söderala parish, Gävleborg län in Hälsingland province in 1673. It was after this that Johan moved further north to the farm Angäs in Bjorhulm parish, Nordmaling county. There does not appear to be any further record of Anders Johansson
