- Julia has added a couple of notes to Anders' page - but, they do not provide any new information
- also has posted a family photo of Anders' and provides labels: However, she is missed label Melvin.
Melvin is the oldest of the family and thus he likely the oldest child in this picture and is the tallest son. I have downloaded this photo. See point 7, label likely most correct. [see my PC, folder for Anders M Prestlien]
- Also a photo taken at Anders' burial in the later part of Sep 1938. There are a number of people, but they are not named in the photo. I'm sure of any the people.

a. 29 Nov 1919 - Alien Certificate US Dept of Labor - Ancestry.com arriving at Seattle (Head Tax) 1917-1924 [ National Archives and Records Administration; Washington, D.C.; Certificates of Head Tax Paid by Aliens Arriving at Seattle from Foreign Contiguous Territory; ARC Number: 4499105; Record Group Title: Records of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, 1787 - 2004; Record Group Number: 85; Series Number: M1365; Roll Number: accessed 9 Aug 2014 [see, Anders' file folder on my PC]

- Andres M Prestlien, age 57, native of Norway, arrived in US in 1869 at Portland Maine
- designation as Stanwood, WA - Taar .... - this would be wife Taarand .... ??? [ series of numbers ]
- entered US via .... ??? series of numbers
- Surrendered at Blaine ...... 29 Nov 1919

NOTE: arrrival in 1869 at Portland, ME [ 10 Aug 2014 ]

Ancestry.com ;; U.S., Atlantic Ports Passenger Lists, 1820-1873 and 1893-1959 data
- only 3 possible places in 1869 - Massachusettes and Rhode Island - nothing by first names
- no list of 1869 for Maine, Portland
- http://www.mainegenealogy.net/passenger_search.asp nothing for 1869 and then directs to Ancestry

- this appears to indicate that a list of passengers for 1869 is not available or does not exist for any port in Maine

Implication - if Anders arrival in 1869 was Portland, ME, then it is reasonable to also conclude that Thore S Grue also arrived in the US at Portland, ME and from there made their way to Waterloo Ridge and then later to Otter Tail Co, MN since the Mikkel Prestlien family and Thore S Grue are recorded on the Emigrants from Throndheim database with date of registration as 18 Mar 1869 on the ship SS Norway (along with others - ie, Sigrid Marie Prestlien/Nygaard/Svensen family and the John Engebretsen family)
NOTE: Iver M Prestlien border crossings all indicate his arrival as: Boston

Port of Douglas, May 1912
- Anders N Prestlien, age 50 farmer from Stanwood going to Fort George BC (currently known as Prince George)
- Melvin age 23
- Joseph, age 16
- Nels, age 13
on the next line is Peter Kare, age 76 born in Nor - from Stanwood and going to Fort George
and then, the next line is Halsten Dahlen age 36 b in MN [b 1876]; from Stanwood and going to Fort George [is he related to Anders sister, Gertrude who married Ole Dahlen ???? ]

- this fits with point 4,

c. ** another border crossing, from Jan 1920
Nels Prestlien had enter the US to go to relatives in Stanwood, WA and then returned to Canada at White Rock on his way to his father [Anders] at Giscombe BC. Indicates he first went to Giscombe in 1912

d. *** And another border crossing, 24 Jan 1918;
Washington, U.S., Arriving and Departing Passenger and Crew Lists, 1882-1965; image 396 and 397 line 26-29

There is no 'guide' for this collection, but I think this a record from the port of Vancouver, but I'm not sure why they are on a boat going from Vancouver to Standwood ??? ; however:
line 26 is Nels Prestlien, age 18, then Anders M, age 54, then wife Taarrand, age 62, then Joseph Prestlien age 20
- for all the last permanent address: Giscome, BC; contact is son, Melvin Prestlien [spelling Melvile]
- designation is Standwood, to: Elias Prestlien, brother
- Anders - in US from 1869 to 1912; Taarand 1891 to 1912 ????; Nels and Joseph, from birth to 1912; where in US - Minn ????, but this is likely referencing Nels and Joseph since they both were born in MN; Anders and Taarand were both born in Norway, and first come to MN

*** this record implies that Anders, Joseph, and Nels all moved [from Stanwood area] to Giscome in May 1912, with Taarand also. But I think her leaving in May 1912 is a mistake. Anders and her married in 1914 in Grand Forks, ND [but remember that Anders didn't move to WA until 1898-1900, and he first came
to MN with parents to Otter Tail Co, and then when he first married, Anders family lived in Lessor Twp, Polk Co [near Erskine and abt 40 kms east of Crookston]
- it seems most likely that in the fall of 1913, Anders left Giscome for Crookston and in Jan 1914, Anders married Taarand, the sister of his first wife, Asloug. Then after a month or so after their marriage, Anders and Taarand traveled back to Giscome. They lived their until Jan 1918 when they moved to Stanwood.

4. See file folder re; email from Carol Bosse - Sept 2008
- Carol mentions that Anders went to Canada (but talks about a sister or something in Canada - Anders did not have a sister in Canada, but Anders' daughter, Vanda, lived in Vancouver and was married around in 1913 )

7. Family photo: from Fournier FT

Hegseth comment from Ancestry.com: Back left to right: Albert, Amanda, Melvin, Joseph Front left to right: Tarrand (Anders 2nd wife - married 1914) Nels and Anders Prestlien The children's mother died April 24, 1901 during child birth of Twin Boy and Girl. The babies died 5 and 6 months later. If Tarrand and Nels married in 1914 the son Albert had died in 1906/1907 I would say this picture was taken long before 1914 if that is correct.
It appears the photo was more like 1904 not 1914.

However: Asloug died in 1901 and by 1910 Tarrand was living with the family - Tarrand was a sister to Asloug, and likely came to live with Anders to take care of the children. They later married, but not until 1914

Date of Photo: more likely about 1905. Melvin is likely about 16 - he was born in 1888, so 1888+16 = 1904
