- going to his media gallery - 19 pages
- does not record, Kirsti Nilsdatter Søndmør, 1795-1876, my 3rd greatgrandmother
- as of 21 May 2023, no significant new information has been added
- also records the story of the death of Albert Prestlien, son of Anders M Prestlien
the Storbo story was posted ......... hegseth originally shared this on 22 May 2011
From doing research and taking photos of the headstones in Stanwood that the boys name was Albert Prestlien:

Albert Prestlien born 22 March 1893 in Leesor, Polk Minnesota and died in Washington state between 20 Dec 1906 and 7 Mar 1907 (that would be when they found him)
so they would not have an exact date to put on the headstone.

Albert would have been 14 on March 22, 1907

In 1902, Peter Storbo and B.P. Korssjoen staked forty-one claims in Glacier Basin and in 1905 formed the Mount Rainier Mining Company.

1. Birth 1893 and death

1900 US Census Mar 1893
1885 MN State 3 yrs old on last birthday, census 1 Jun 1895
1892
Grave marker 22 Mar 1893, recorded/added by "SilverRose" on 13 May 2013; death as 7 Mar 1907
Ancestry 22 Mar 1893 "Hegseth", from photo at Cemetery; death as 1907
-- TMA2014
Family Tree records death as 20 Dec 1906

2. Death 20 Dec 1906, buried in 7 Mar 1907; Findagrave 110477911190

Note: my photo of his grave marker is much clearer that the one on findagrave
- my photo clearly indicates that he died in Dec 1906 but wasn't buried until Mar of the next year - this is likely due to the difficulties transporting from a mountainous area in the middle of winter

Grave marker / Ancestry -- although tombstone likely records death, the article/story from Art Storbo (posted on rootsweb.ancestry message board in Aug 2004) that "hegseth" records on ancestry is very mariginal evidence of the date and cause of the death (due to an alvanche).

Art Storbo says that "...the boy's last name was Prestlien; he was about 16 and the son a preacher ...." Albert would have been age 13 in the winter of 1906-1907 (or would have been 14 in Mar of 1907) - this would seem he would be a bit young to be spending the winter at a mine. Also Albert was not the son of a preacher.

Art Storbo further wrote " ... his body was brought out in a log coffin on horseback for burial at Stanwood.

Problems with this information and further information:
1) Art Storbo does not provide any source for his story, other than a 'family hearsay' story from his aunt Thora and Clara. Aunt Thora and Clara would likely have reported this story some time after the event and so their memory of it may not be accurate.
2) It may be possible that Albert died as the story indicates, "Hegesth" provides no direct evidence other than reviewing the dates of death at the cemetery and assuming Albert is the Prestlien boy. TMA2014 records no source or information for the date of death of 20 Dec 1906
3) There are a number of other Public Member Trees on Ancestry, but it seems that the date of death (1906-1907) has been copied from other Public Member Trees with no source information
4) there is one collaborating post on rootsweb.ancestry message board by Terry Prestlien on 20 Feb 2010 (Prestlien98226), "I wish I had more information to add for you. My father told me of this story as the boy that died was his uncle. My dad has since died...." (see ancestry Public Member Tree, Prestlien98226 - family tree does not record any children of Anders M Prestlien; however, it is likely Terry Prestlien's father was a Raymond N Prestlien, the son of Nels = see Nels' obit)
5). There is no record of Albert's death on WA Digital Archives or from the cemetery index provided at Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society website (http://www.stillygen.org), nor is there an obit from the Camwood Obit Project index (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wasigs/camwoodintro.htm)

Conclusion:
At this juncture, the only possible conclusion is to record Albert's death between 1906-1907.

Further research:
(1) review photo of the gravesite - in 2009 I had photographed a number of graves, but I'm not sure if I had photographed this.
(2) review Anders M Prestlien's obit and perhaps something is mentioned about Albert.
(3) review any newspaper articles about this mine disaster
(4) contact Art Storbo ???? or the owner of Prestlien98226, Terry Prestlien (but last login was in Jan 2014)
