Research Notes:
Note: I have been trying to find a birth date for Erik Olsen Langen, and in that search, I came back to searching Erik Olsen Berg [see his page]. This lead me to search for Erik Olsen Berg's father and this lead me to reviewing the Bygebok for Os, vol 1 and Os i Østerdalene. I then reviewed the information from the tax records [point 2]. And I also found a couple of additional family trees [FTs] on Anestry.
It is very difficult to determine ancestor/descendant lines because: [1] various spellings; [2] some records, such as tax records, only record a given name in the early years; [3] resources often do not record a specific ancestor/descendant lines; [3] most of the FTs do not record resources, with only rare exceptions, and they do not provide any context or explanation for conclusions.
So, based on my review, the following is a brief summary: .... ...
... Erik Eriksen, b abt 1568, d. 1665?, was likely the first person person who started to clear land on what became known the the Berg farm in the Os, Hedmark area ... Erik Eriksen, b 1568 had at least two sons: [1] Esten Eriksen, b bet 1590-1600, d. unknown .... aka Østen Eriksen [2] Ingebret Eriksen, b abt 1600, d. bef 1650 ... aka Engebret Eriksen or Embret Eriksen ** .. .. Esten Erisken b 1590 /1610 [Bortistu], has a least one son, Ola Estensen, aka Ole Estensen and aka Oluf Estensen Ola Estensen Berg, most likely was born 1639 and died about 1685 ... he took over the farm Bortistu Berg Ola Estensen Berg was 1st married to Sigrid Jonsdtr, b. bef 1655 d. 1695 [possibly 24 Jul 1695] Ola Estensen Berg, b 1639 and Sigrid had at least 3 sons: .. .. Per Ingebretsen, aka Per Embretsen b abt 1624 [see above] owned the other half of the Berg farm, known as Nordstu-Berg .. Per Embretsen was the first owner of Nordstu Berg, but around 1695 he divided Norsdstu between his sons: 2 farms: Nystu Berg and Storstu Berg
.. Ola Persen [b bef 1669?; d. 1720 ? - possible but only an estimate] takes over farm Nystu [Bygebok for Os p 63] .. Per Olsen, b 1689, d. 1770 ... takes over farm [Per Olsen aka Peder Olsen Vangryft .. his son, Ola Persen b 1731 takes over farm ....... .. Erik Persen [b.d. unknown] takes over farm Storstu] .. ** Jon Simensen Grue, b 1729 was my 4th great-grandfather. Sigrid Estensdtr died in 1774, and Jon Simensen Grue married for a second time to Gjertrud Toresdtr Breen. My family descends from Jon Simensen's second marriage
** variants of Ingebret could include Ingebrigt, Engebret, Embret, Embrik thus, Ingebret Eriksen and Embret Eriksen were the same people and most likely the next generation used 'Embretsen' as the patronymic

Berg, page 51
The first known user of the Berg farm was Erik Eriksen. He was first mentioned in 1629 and still living in 1664-/66 and was born about 1568. According to the tax rolls for the 1650 years, Erik Eriksen is the one [person recorded for the Berg farm]. Per Embretssen [born about 1624] was first mentioned in 1665 [and at around that time frame] Erik and Per share equally the Berg farm between them. Erik's part was known as Bortistu and Per's Nordstu.
[Note: Bortistu was also known as or later known as Berg søndre] ... then go to, page 57
page 57
At the parliament at Tynset in July 1699, a census was taken of men who were found capable of performing military service. Under Berg there are Erik Olssen aged 25 [b abt 1674] and Jon Olssen aged 18 [b abt 1681]. Both are stated to have been born in Berg. Tore Jakobssen is also mentioned, see Storstu
Oluf Estensen married to Sigrid Jonsdatter, b. c. 1640, d. c. 1700. Oluf Estensen takes over half of Berg, Berg søndre, Bortistu, after his foster father Erik Eriksen and pays the first fee in 1663. Oluf Estensen probably dies in the 1680s when his wife Sigrid Jonsdatter is listed as a widow in 1689 and 1690.
Berg søndre (Bortistu, bnr 4) The first owner of 'half of Berg' was Erik Erikson; Erik had a foster son, Ola, born about 1639; Ola had 3 children (Erik, Esten and Jon). Ola died around 1680 and his wife, Sigrid Jonsdatter married again to Esten Evenssen.
- Ola was the forster son of Erik Erikson of Berg - Ola had three boys - Erick, born 1674 (took over the farm); Esten, born 1677 (married Kari Olsdtr - see Gruva), and Jon, born 1681 - Erik, born 1674, had a son, Ola born 1724 who took over the farm - Ola, born 1724 had a son, Erick, born 1751 who took over the farm and married Magnhild Jonsdtr Grue, born 1756 -
In 1663 Ola Estenssen f.ca.1639 [born circa ] paid the first lease on this half of Berg, which had been taken over by Erik Erikssen. Erik was the foster father of Ola. Ola probably died in the year 1680. Sigrid Jonsdatter was his wife and she was listed as a widow in 1689 and 1690.
At the council of Tynset in July 1699, there was register of men who were found skilled (competent) to perform the services of soldier. Under Berg it is stated, Erik Olssen 25 years and Jon Olssen 18. Both stated they were born at Berg. Also Tore Jakobssen is mentioned, see Strostu, 123-18.
Barn:
a. Erik f.ca. 1674. Tok over b. According to oral tradition, Esten, f. ca. 1677, married with Kari Olsdatter Femstu.
Ola døde sannsynligvis i 1680 åra.
1680 to around 1720 --
Esten Evenssen f.ca. 1644 represents one half of Berg in 1691 [he had married the widow Sigrid Jonsdtr] . He is listed as servant in register of tenant farm leases* for 1674, with the lease transferred to a soldier in 1676, who was married to Sigrid Jonsdatter. In a case concerning fishing in Tufsinga in 1704 there is Esten Evenssen Berg of Dalsbydas annex witness, and he was stated to be at 60 years old. In 1704 Esten Evenssen wrote a letter to his stepson indicating what he had owned. Only the oldest, Erik Olssen, is mentioned by name. Erik was to have the farm when his stepfather dies. Esten Evenssen suffered a loss during a Swedish stay in 1718 and 1719 and asked for tax exemption.
*leilendingsskatten - from John Follesdal (http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~norway/na27.html) - leilending, tenant farmer, would pay a yearly amount, usually goods such as cow hides, butter, fish, etc and the amount was related to how productive the farm was, to the landowner (jorddrotte, land owner who leased out his land to tenant farmers); the landowners were usually the King (Krongods), the church (kirkegods), nobility (adelgods) or Farmers who owned the land (bondegods) - skatten refers to a register

4. "Owners of the Berg Farm" - summary from information in the Bydebok for Os, p 57
- first farmer on Berg was Erik Erickson born 1568 - in about 1655, the farm was divided by Erik Erickson who continued to be owner of his half known as Bortistu (Berg søndre); the other half of the farm was owned by Per Embretsen, born about 1624 and was known as Nordstu - Erik Erickson was the foster father of the next owner of the Bortistu, Ola Estensen born about 1639 and died abt 1680. Ola was married to Sigrid Jonsdtr. Ola (and Sigrid) had 3 boys. When Ola died (around 1680), she remarried to Esten Evenssen, born about 1644 - Erik Olsen (Berg), born 1674 was the next owner - he was the oldest son of Ola (Eriksen) (b 1639, d 1680) - Ola Eriksen (Berg) born 1724 was the next owner - he was the oldest son of Erik Olsen (b 1674, d 1760) - Erik Olsen (Berg) born 1751, died 1834 was the next owner - he was the oldest son of Ola Eriksen (b 1724); Erik was married in 1788 to Magnhild Jonsdtr Gruva (daughter of Jon Simensen); Bonde, likely meaning owner; gaardbeboer, meaning occupant or resident of the farm; smed, meaning blacksmith; Gard/hus #3 in the 1801 Norway Census - Jon Eriksen (Berg) born 1794 and died 1878 was the next owner - he was the 4th child of Erik Olsen born 1751 - Ola Jonsen (Berg) born 1829, died 1908, was the next owner - he was the oldest son of Jon Erikson born 1794; Ole (Ola Jonsen Berg born 1829 emigrated to the US in 1899, along with most of his children and a brother; likely he sold the farm

farm : BORTISTU.
Berg is thus divided [Storstu and] Bortistu in the vernacular and in the old days stood next door to Storstu [bottom page 239]
2 The man on the other farm [that is Bortistu] is named in 1664 Oluff Østensen b. 1639 [or Ole Estensen] and must be assumed to be Erik Eriksen's grandson, so that he [this Erik Eriksen] had 2 sons - Østen and Ingebret b. around 1600 and already died around 1650. Oluff [ Østensen b. 1639] receives a deed from Brokdorff in 1675 for 1 Ksk. Berg- 239
He [Oluff Østensen b. 1639, aka Ole Estensen] still pays the farm's taxes in 1680, but in 1688 it is stated in the land register that this part of the farm is owned by the widow Sigrid Østensdtr. She may have married again, because from 1691 to 1722 an Østen Efvensen is listed as the user, once called Østen Einersen. Both are in any case dead before the ministerial register is kept, and no change from that time exists for Berg. [... Bygebok for Os, vol 1, p. 57 ... Ola Estensen, b abt 1639 had died probably in the 1680s ..sannsynligvis i 1680-åra.. . Possibly in 1691 or a bit earlier, Sigrid Jonsdatter. Ole Estensen wife, remarried to Esten Evenssen Berg, b abt 1644
In 1704, Esten Evenssen had a deed of gift drawn up from him to his stepsons on what he owned. Only the eldest, Erik Olssen is mentioned by name. Erik will have the farm when his stepfather dies. Esten Evenssen suffers losses during the Swedish stay in 1718 and 1719, and asks for tax exemption.
Oluff and Sigrid had 3 sons. The eldest was Østen Olsen b. 1677. In 1708 he was summoned to the spring parliament for a fight at Bersven Olsen Breen, whom he had attacked with blows and blows. He did not resist with just his blacksmith's fists, but hit him twice on the arm with a pole. For this he was sentenced to pay 3 g. 3 lots even in money 9 Rd.
There is also a brother Jon b. 1691 [Bygebok for Os, vol 1, page 57 records birth as 1681] which is stated in the gardmanntallet 1710. On Gruvåsen there is a mound "Jobanken" named after a Jo who is said to have fallen into the mine and had an accident.
3 In the 1723 register [land tax register] Erik Olsen [1674-1760] is listed as the owner. Similarly, in the 1739 gardmanntallet. but in the 1744 tax list for wealth tax, remarkably, no one is listed for Bortistuen. On the other hand, Østen Olsen is listed as a blacksmith who makes a living from his craft. Erik is said to have been born in 1685 [Bygebok for Os, vol 1, p.57 records his birth as 1674 .. died 1760, Marie Tollan's transcription, 'burials'] and there supposedly died in 1760. His wife was named Sigrid and was supposedly born in 1708 and died in 1743. They had a son Ole born in 1724 and in 1734 they had a son Østen who was 6 weeks old [and died] there. Presumably they also had several children who died young.
In J. S. Grue's school journal of 1748 Erik Olsen Berg (lame or limping man = Halt mand) is listed. It must be this Erik Olsen who reads the right of to re-purchase on the farm on March 13, 1759. [and this must still be Erik Olsen Berg, 1684-1760]
reluitionsretten - also written as gjenskjøpsretten = right to re-purchase .... [above from Otto Jørgensen - OJ's homepage - https://otjoerge.wordpress.com/ ... Norwegian-American word list]
4 The next user is then Ole Eriksen [born about 1724]. It was this one who did the remarkable fishing in the Forolsjøbekken. He has presumably been the only son and took over the farm without a deed.
He was born in 1724 and died in 1803. His wife was from Prestehagen and was named Ingri Olsdtr. born in 1726, died in 1813. Dtr. Sigri was born in Mosengen. Ingeborg Håkensgjelten and Kari with Halsten Toresen Hafsjøen. There was also a dtr. I think the following in NOT Accurate:L note that this records Ole Eriksen Berg's parents as Erik Olsen Langen and his first wife, Sigrid Jonsdatter [his second wife was Inger Nielsdatter Østgaard]
5 Son Erik Olsen was born in 1751 and died in 1831. married Magnhild Jonsdtr. Gruen born in 1756. died 1832.
