Esten Eriksen Berg

   Other names for Esten were Esten Eriksen Bortistu-Berg and Øusten Eriksen.

NOTE: birth and death dates are estimates

.. I haven't found a date of death of Esten Eriksen Berg, aka Øusten Eriksen. He likely was born between 1590 and 1610. He most likely died around 1655 or possibly earlier [I have indicated between 1640 and 1655]. His son Ola Estensen Berg is thought to have been born about 1639. Esten Eriksen Berg is not mentioned in the tax records, so it is reasonable to assume that he was living on the same farm as his father, Erik Eriksen [1658-1665] who was paying the taxes through the years.

Esten Eriksen [b bet 1590-1610] son Ola Estensen Berg, b abt 1639 starts to pay taxes as early 1663.

Jon Ola Gjermundsen notes in volume 1 of the Bygebok for Os that the Berg that sometime around 1655, the Berg farm is divided into two [that is there were 2 users at the Berg farm, paying equal taxes by]:
Esten Erisken b 1590 /1610 takes over one half, known as Bortstu-Berg, aka Bortstuen Berg, aka Berg søndre
Per Embretsen/Ingebretsen, b 1624 takes over one half, known as Nordstu-Berg aka Nordstuen Berg

BUT ... * the taxes on Bortstu-Berg are paid by Erik Eriksen in the 1650s and then in 1663 by both Erik Eriksen and Ola Estensen

Thus, the above note by Gjermundsen [vol 1, p. 29] suggests that Esten Eriksen was still alive in 1655 ... but as I noted he is not recorded in the tax records ....
