bullet  Research Notes:

1. From Klokkervang, page 8

... He moved to Idre in Sweden [ abt 150 kms south and east of Os ], where he died after only 1 year of arriving (there) at 44 years old. He left behind his two little girls, but the one Barbro died one year old. Daughter Sigrid was married to Ole Olsen Lillen Narjord.

[ Han flyttet til Idre i Sverige, hvor han døde efter bare 1 aars ophold 44 år gml. Han efterlot sig 2 småjenter; men den ene Barbro døde 1 år gml ] .

-- b. Per Harold Grue, Klokkervang, 1822-1997

- records Esten's marriage in 1795
- no new information, BUT on page 12, Per Harold writes "Jo Gruen's eldest son Esten had the qualified allodial right of inheritance. Esten Grue relinquished his allodial rights and was paid 30 riksdaler from his brother Simen in the deed of 1795."
Sigri's birth - see research notes under Sigri

Barbro's birth - see notes under her file

3. Digitalarkivet -- Vigde i Tolga prestegjeld 1786-1814 (Marie Tollman's transcription)
Marriage - 1794

- groom - Esten Jonsen, residence - Gruen
- bride - Ingbor Jonsdtr, residence - Narjordet
- witness/sponsors/best man - Morten Simonsen (Hulbeckmoe) [ likely his uncle - brother to his father Jon Simensen Hulbækdal - Grue ] and Lars Estensen (Tolgen)

- Johannes Rye Røste database records marriage to Ingeborg Jonsdtr born at Hodalen in Tolga - no year of birth or death; Esten's birth as 1754 at Gruva

4. Death - 5 Sep 1797, Idre (Särna) parish records ( Klokkervang notes death as 1798 )

Arkiv Digital, page/image 38, vol 1777-1828, Särna F:3 (includes Idre burials);
- Esten Jonsen in Idre, records birth as 1754 in Norrige, married in Norrige; no or line 11, above his name is Nor ....?ma?men [ don't know what this word is ]
to the right side is a column "Sjukdom" [typically means, sickness], but on Esten's the word appears to be "Slog" which is an infinitive verb of "Slå", typically meaning to break or fight or to be broken, beaten or to be struck. There are a number of people on this page with the same word (male and female) ???????????? so, I'm not sure ????- snip in folder

Therefore, it is likely that Esten died on 5 Sept 1797. If Barbro lived about a year, it may be possble that both Esten and Barbro died at the same time ????

5. John Mason's book, History of Otter Tail Co, MN, 1916

- under C E (Carl Edward) Olson, page 330

- Esten Olson Norgaard and Ingeborg are "...the oldest living settlers in Tordenskjold township."

- paternal grandparents (of Carl Edward) were Ole Narjord and Sigrid Estensdatter - Ole was a labourer, Sigrid the daughter of a soldier of the War of 1814 [ 15 Aug 2012; this may not be correct since Esten Jonsen Grue died in 1797 - Idre parish records (Kollarvang records his death as 1798; this is likely a "family story" and is most likely based on Esten's death during the Napoleanic era
--- it is possible that Esten Jonsen Grue was killed in some type of action or in training in 1797-1798; however, it doesn't appear that Sweden had sent forces during the "Second Coalition" against France and Napolean; more research would need to be done

- the Napoleanic wars started around 1793, but Sweden became apart of the "Second Coalition" - "The Second Coalition was formed in 1798 by Austria, Great Britain, the Kingdom of Naples, the Ottoman Empire, Papal States, Portugal, Russia, Sweden and other states". See, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleonic_Wars
- there was a 'war' in 1814 between Norway and Sweden known as the Swedish-Norwegian war that had resulted with Norway mustering an army against Sweden as a result of the Napoleanic wars' Treaty of Kiel of 1814 where the King of Denmark and Norway ceded Norway to Sweden; Sweden was aligned with Russia and England; at some point Denmark-Norway became aligned with France (this information is from Wikipedia.org, Swedish-Norwegian War of 1814; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish-Norwegian_War_(1814) ]
- however, there were hostilies between Denmark-Norway and Sweden that started in 1808 and lasted until 1814.
Denmark-Norway and Sweden tried to remain neutral in the Napoleanic wars, but the British had attacked Copenhaugen in 1808 and with this Denmark-Norway sided with France and in 1808 Napolean had forced Denmark-Norway to attack Sweden (Sweden had sided Russia and Prussia and later with Britian against Napolean); see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_between_Sweden_and_Norway

--- The second Treaty of Brömsebro of 1645 ; see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Treaty_of_Br%C3%B6msebro_(1645)
The treaty ended the Torstensen War [1643-1645; see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torstenson_War], a local conflict between Sweden and Denmark-Norway that was a part of the larger 30 Year's War in Europe, at the waning years of the war. In the Treaty, Denmark-Norway ceded the provinces of Jämtland, Idre and Särna and Härjedalen to Sweden [ thus, these areas had originally belonged to Norway ] ... [Note: a number of ancesters at one time lived in Idre and Särna parishes]
also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A4rna; copied, .... The two parishes Särna and Idre were originally part of Norway (as was much of Jämtland) but were occupied by an expedition of Swedish peasants from Älvdalen in 1644. The 1645 Treaty of Brömsebro was ambiguous regarding the status of the parishes, but when the exact path of the border was to be decided in 1751 Norway accepted a border west of Idre and Särna. In 1971 the three municipalities Särna, Idre (which itself had been split off from Särna in 1916) and Älvdalen were amalgamated to form the present municipality of Älvdalen. 222,844,845
