Magdalena (Magnhild) Jonsdotter
- Born: Abt 1690, Sweden 1003,1004
- Marriage (1): Simen Mortensen Hulbækdal
- Died: Between 1752 and 1790, Tolga, Hedmark, Norway 1003
Another name for Magdalena was Magnhild.993
Research Notes:
Birth/Death:.. Magdalena's birth and death are uncertain. Some family researchers have recorded her birth as as 1690 in Sweden. However, no source citation is ever noted. Also the location of her birth is not certain. Some family researchers have recorded that she was born in Jåmtland län, Sweden. Other family researches record she was born in Särna parish in Kopparberg län, Sweden. I have reviewed births for Särna parish on Sweden's Arkivdigital but a birth/baptism is not recorded (see point 3 below).
Has with her birth, no source citation for her death is recorded. A number of family researchers record her death as 1781 or after 1781, but there is no evidence for this. I have reviewed the Kronologisk liste for the years 1780-1782 (there is no scanned death/burial record for these years on Norway's Digitalarkivet). The Kronologisk liste records the members of the parish, including those born and those who died. Reviewing the list for the years 1780-1782, Magdalena is NOT recorded as died.
For my Legacy database I have recorded her birth as about 1690 in Sweden and her death between the years of 1752 (the year of the death of her husband, Simen Mortensen) and 1790. If she was born abt 1690, it is probable that she died before are 100.

1. www.helgo.net/enar/ - Enar Nordvik
- records name as Maghild Jonsdotter born in Särna, but no dates of birth or death - records father as Jon and mother as Guri, but provides no source information. However, I have noted their given names based on this, even the information is not verifiable
2. *** NOTE:
- Magdalena's birth - Särna, in Älvdalen Municipality, Dalarna län (Co), [abt 50 kms south and east of Irdre, Sweden - re; Esten Jonsen Grue, born 1754]; for genealogy purposes this area was previously covered under Kopparbergs län [ from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalarna_County ... "The Kopparberg's län (literally Copper Mountain County) was finally created by royal decree in 1647. In 1997, the name of the county was changed to Dalarna County.] [ according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Särna ..... "The two parishes Särna and Idre were originally part of Norway but were occupied by Swedish farmers in 1644. The 1645 Treaty of Brömsebro was ambiguous regarding the status of the parishes, but when the exact path of the border was to be decided in 1751 Norway accepted a border west of Idre and Särna." Särna/Idre is around 100 kms east of the Norway border and about 150 kms south and east from Tolga, Norway. - other sources have recorded her birth in Jämtland Co, Sweden but have not indicated a parish or town. Österlund, is one of the main centers in Jämtland, and is about 250 kms further north and a bit east of Särna (Österlund is about 250 kms east of Trondheim, Norway)
3. birth --- Ancestry.com, Swedish Church Records [ 25 Jan 2013 ]
- Särna, Kopparberg Co, Födelse (Födde), image 7 (years 1687-1689) and page 8 (years 1690-1964) - very difficult to make out the handwriting; quality of the copy is poor
- I can't make it out a child named of "Magdalena" here are Margareta Jonsdotter in Särna (image 8; 1st side, 2nd entry, possibly 24 Jun 1690) { 2 Jan 2022, No: Margreta Joensdotter is the name of the mother of the child born/baptised on 24 Jun 1690 Särna (W) C:1 (1682-1761) Page 7, 1st side, 2nd entry ** - Margreta Joensdotter (Jonsdotter); image 7, 1st side, 2nd from bottom, 1 Jul 1688 { 2 Jan 2022 - No: Margreta Joensdotter is the name of the mother of the child born/baptised. 1 Jul 1688 **, the father was Paulus [?] Olsson ... difficult to make out the child's name, but it is likely Joen ... in this birth/baptism the priest wrote the name of the father, then the place/farm [på], then the mother, and then the name of the child, then the names of the witnesses - in this case, the priest has written the father and mother, then the place, and then the name - source: Särna (W) C:1 (1682-1761) Page 5. 1st side, 2nd from bottom; Arkivdigital }
** Remember that the patronymic of Magadalena Jonsdotter has to have a father with a given name of "Jon" or one of the spelling variations of the given name. Thus the above two examples Would NOT be 'our' Magadalena Jonsdotter
NOTE: Klokkervang 1822-1997, written by Per Harold Grue - this source DOES NOT record her birth or death dates; only that she was married to Simen Mortensen and was the mother of 'our' Jon Simensen Grue, b 1729, d. 1807
[ 9 Oct 2013 ] - FamilySearch.org but NOT Confirmed
- there are a number baptisms for Magdalena between the years 1688-1692 in Kopparberg Co, but none in Särna parish or with last name as Jonsdotter ;; expanding the years to 1685-1695, there are 4: (1) Magdlena Jonsson, bap 15 Oct 1692 at Stora Kopparberg, father Johan Johansson; (2) Magdalena Jonsson, bap 15 Jul 1694 at Norn, Kopparberg, father Johan Barck; (3) Magdalena Johansdatter, bap 24 Aug 1695, father Johan Uhrmakare and mother Elisabet; (4) Magdalena Joransson, bap 5 Apr 1694 at Stora Kopparberg, father Joran Danielson - three people in Jämtland, but none with Jonsdotter (bet 1688-1692) ; between 1685-1695, there are 2 baptisms: (1) Magdalena Jonsson, bap 7 May 1693 at Revsund parish, Jämtland; father Johan Sellin and mother Malin Wrang (2) Magnel Jonsson, bap 15 Oct 1695 at Lillhardal parish Jämtland, father Jons Matsson and mother Cherstin Jonsdr
Birth Conclusion: 9 Oct 2013
There is no convincing evidence of Magdalena's birth since the Sweden Church Records are inconclusive. Other researchers have not recorded any source citiations. Additionally I have not been able to determine a date or death and often provides age at death. Therefore, I have recorded on the Legacy database her birth as "about 1690" with the location as Särna parish, Kopparberg Co, Sweden
4. Date of death is unknown
5. Jan Erik Aas' excell sheet; http://www.jeaas.com/sk-roros.htm [last access, 2 Jan 2022] Selections from the mining and smelter community in Røros and Tolga [ likely a skifte - probate/change record ] - to find, click on link, then "ctrl F", type, Simen Mortensen [ note: info below is NOT on Digitalarkivet; 13 Jan 2015 ]
Tolgen 5/4 1752 s.839 Magdalena Jonsd. Tolga hytte + levende live enke e/Simen Mortensen Mannens barn fra 1.ekteskap: 1. Anders Simensen 35 år 2. Morten Simensen 30 år 3. Guren Simensd. g.m/Ole Estensen Bakman Barn med enkem: Jon Simensen 25 år
** on these sheets, the date is usually the date that the event is recorded, so death or the change because of the death is 1752, and with the month, likely 5 Apr 1752
SO, the most likely conclusion is: Magdelena Jonsdtr; Tolga smetler/cabin and the living widow of Simen Mortensen; so 1752 is likely the death of Simen Mortensen
levende - live or living live - from liv, meaning life enke - widow (A widow is a woman whose spouse has died); enkemann - widower

Probate record for Simen Mortensen Hulbækdal, 1752 **** see Simen Mortensen's research page 925,1068
Noted events in her life were:
1. Death, Estimated bet 1752 and 1790, Tolga, Hedmark, Norway. 1003 Magnhild's date of death is unknown since it is not recorded in the Tolga Parish records. Thoralf Grue in his book Klokkervang says that she "...lived until she was very old" but he does not record an estimate date of death. Thoralf Grue also says that she lived with her son, Jon Simensen on Gruven. I'm quite sure that she was still alive in 1752, and at that time she would have been 62 years old (assuming her birth was about 1690). She isn't recorded living with Jon Simensen in the 1801 Norway census, so she died before 1800. If she lived until 1790, she would have been around 100 years and so this is unlikely.
Magdalena married Simen Mortensen Hulbækdal, son of Morten Knutsen Undset and Aasta Undset. (Simen Mortensen Hulbækdal was born about 1680 in Rendalen, Hedmark, Norway 993,994,995,996 and died about 1752 in Tolga, Hedmark, Norway 833,993,994,997.)
