- arrived by rail in Claresholm on 24 May 1903 with 1.5 yr old daughter, Evelyn - May 30, to the homestead on Sec 24, Twp 13, Range 26, W4 - first dug a water well, then built a barn (lumber hauled from the Finstad mill west of Claresholm - about 45 miles) - then built a house; and a few rods away, a house for his parents - April 1904 - Mabel was born (Mrs Dean Nowlin, Indus, AB); then Charles (Vauxhall, AB) who died in 1970; then Margaret (Mrs Raymond Nowlin, Claresholm); Art who remained on the farm until 1972 when he retired - Evelyn (Mrs Herbert Schram, married in 1926; Herbert died in Jan 1973) became a nurse; 3 children - Dean, Doris (Mrs Ken Hawk) and Don - Mabel became school teacher; married Dean Nowlin in 1933; two sets of twins, Barbara (Mrs Les Waddell) and Shirley (Mrs Bill Rennie) and Beverly (Mrs Larry Winters) and Barry - Charles moved to Vauxhall and partly owned the Arch Theatre and worked in a garage; he died in 1970; married Emily Page in 1940; one son, James - Margaret became a school teacher; married Raymond Nowlin in 1937 - Arthur farmed; married Barbara Hunter in 1938; two sons, Douglas and Ralph

- passed away on Thursday - therefore 9 Aug - birth as Cedar Falls, WI [ Dunn County; Cedars Falls is an unincorporated community in the town of Red Ceder ] - confined to hospital since 30 May - stroke of apoplexy - eldest of 12 children with only 3 survive - Julius and Guy of Claresholm and Mrs R J Murphy of Ashland, WI - early in his boyhood the family moved to Ashland where he grew up [ 14 Feb 2012 -- according to Ancestry Public Member Tree 'Murphy from Wisc Family Tree'; owner 'stacie6074' (Feb 2012) and the records of birth and death of children, the family would have moved from Cedar Falls, WI to Ashland, WI between Sept 1882 and Dec 1883 ] - attended Augsberg Lutheran Theological Seminary at Minneapolis - served in Porto Rico during the Spanish-American War - contracted malaria from which he never fully recovered and was a contributing factor in his death - returned to WI and in 1900 married Constance Wehtberg of L'Anse, Michigian - in 1903 to Canada - homesteaded 12 miles NE of Claresholm, in the Clear Lake District - 5 children were born; - survived by his widow, and children Mrs Herbert Schram, Mrs Dean Nowlin of Grantham, Charlie and Margaret at home - funeral service - internment at Five Mile Cemetery - family plot, alongside his parents - his mother died in 1906 following a tragic accident - she and Mrs M Fredericson were driving a team of horses near the Commerce Bank when the horses became frightened and ran away and throughing the women out; his mother died from her injuries a few days later - his father died in 1907* - he was driving a load of lumber that upset; he died of injuries a few days later - pallbearers are listed - no Bergs listed
