1. Military Service, 1951-1952, United States. 4140,4141,4142,4143 The BIRLS file records that he enlisted in the US Army on 16 Feb 1951 and that he was released on 5 Oct 1952. According to the newspaper article in the Seattle Times (3 May 1951, p 45, col 1) Orval was with the US Air Force - 73rd Air Depot Wing at Kelly Air Force Base in Texas.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, 25 Jun 1950 to 27 Jul 1953 (see tombstone photo from findagrave). He is also recorded on the Washington State Digital Archives (Korean Bonus collection). This records that he entered service on 16 Feb 1951 at 1015 Lakeview Blvd in Seattle and that he was discharged 5 Oct 1952 at Camp Kilmer, NJ, branch AF (Air Force). He was paid an additional $200 (Korean Bonus, Master Card for living veterans).
