Ethel Olson and her twin sister, Esther, were born to Louis Olson and Bertha Herniman Olson on their farm near Lamerton, Alberta. In 1927, in Stettler, Alberta, Ethel married Fred Blakely Dowswell, who was born in Lamerton in 1907. They had three children: Joyce, Shirley and Billy.
