- Olaf and Marit had a daughter, Inga Kristine, b Nov 1863 in Swe. Came to MN Apr 1865. A son may have been born in MN?
- Olaf frozed to death the first winter in MN [so 1965-1966]
- Marit later married Pete Hanson, but no trace of the family has been found ***

*** BUT check findagrave id, 189733974; comment, likely by KayMBN [I believe this is the same person, as Kay Breding Netz. Comment is basically the same as the information from the booklet. ALONG with much more information.
Another comment. Added by KayMBN on 29 Sep 2021 also posted a photo of a document from Carver Co, MN,
re Olof Janason Modig's intent to become a citizen of US, dated 18 Jul 1865 at Carver Co District Court. His signed name was Olof Jönsson Modig [patronmyic name looks like it is spelled with the vowel "á" which is very unusual in Sweden] [likely his signature, but ???..}
There is also a hand written comment by someone from the court, "that I arrived in MN on or about 9th day of June 1865"

NOTE: Kay's booklet was published in 1990 and so it appears that she had found further research information.
Much of that corresponds to some Ancestry Family Trees. BUT on the above post comment, she records, "in 1869, Marit married Mads Peter Hanson who was born in Denmark."

Then on findagrave there are 2 links to other family members are 2 stories, one about "Olaf J. Modig and Mary Erickson" and one about daughter Christina. The accuracies on the "stories" may be in question [and Kay Breding Netz, also questions these stories]. The main difficulties is that the stories mention that Mads

- does not record his wife, Marit Ersson/Ericksdotter, b 16 Mar 1843

- the FT records name as Olaf Moody (Modig), b 1836 Lekvattnet died 1865? Carver Co, MN
- this has 2 sources (not on ancestry): (1) micofilm page of Salem Lutheran Church Records in Stockholm, Minnesota and supplied by Mrs.E. Clifford Netz of Maple Grove, MN. Mrs. E. Clifford Netz is a granddaughter of Otto Moody. In early records, Stockholm, MN was known as Moore's Prairie. privately held by Yolanda Terry (Spina) Parks from, 21434 SE 16 Pl Sammamish, WA 98075; with a note, Actual documentation & research by Ihla [Ihla May (Gustelius) Parks] and research papers acquired from Eva J. Hill in Reese, Michigan in 1976.
NOTE that the sources mentioned on this FT are not available on line and thus they cannot researched

- this FT records Olof's spouse as Marit Erickson but no other identifying info other than name
- notes that Olof's father is Johan Persson Moody b 1800 and died in 1841 - NOT Correct, since he died in 1854 (see his research page)

- apparently Salem Lutheran Church in Stockholm Twp is an alternate name for Stockholm Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stockholm Twp; and Originally Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Moores Prairie, est. 1866. Marit Ersson/Ericksdotter, b 16 Mar 1843 [Lekvattnet, AI:3, page 38, Fäbacken]
married 1 Mar 1863, to Olof Jonsson (Jånsson) b 7 Apr 1836 ; family moves to North America, 24 Apr 1865;
B:2, page 24 no 3
daughter, Inga Kristina b 5 Nov 1863
- the above vol (AI:3, p 38) records Marit's family
Erik Eriksson, b 26 Nov 1815, Lekvattnet
wife, Ingeborg Pärsdotter, b 1820 at Östmark
then son in law (måg) Olof Jansson (but should be Olof Johansson) b 7 Jul 1836, Lekvattnet;
married 1 Mar 1863 and came to this farm in 1863 ....
then Marit Eriksdotter ... with daughter Inga Kristina b 5 Nov 1853 and then on far right to North America

It is not clear on his surname in the US - see notes on his brother Jon on findagrave .... some family descendants (that is, the next generation) used the surname 'Modig' and some 'Moody'. On my database I have tried to use the surname that person was known as in the US and that family descendants were known as.

2. NOTE: my relationship is through his wife Marit Eriksdotter (b 1843), and Olof's parents ** so a double relationship

Olof's parents were:
Johan Persson (1793-1854) and Annika Ersdotter (1797-1865)
AND Johan Persson b 1793 parents were: Per Johansson (1770-1803) and Kjerstin
Eriksdotter (1775-1865/1875)
AND Kjerstin Eriksdotter, b 1778 parents were: Erik Andersson (1746-1826) and Marit Andersdotter (1747-1838
AND Erik Andersson, b 1746 - ancestors lead back to the Finnish Family Name of Porka - early settlers on Fäbacken

- Olof Jonsson came from page 35, with the farm as Fäbacken - Moditorp
And this is the surname often used in the Stockholm Lutheran Church records, Wright Co, MN

SO, Olof Jonsson b 7 Apr 1836, [Östmark birth records: CI:3, p 129, first side, 2nd entry]
BUT it seems to be an error - name as Johan with father Johan Johansson and Annika Persdotter ???? BUT of course, the spellings often are recorded differently and it is not uncommon for "Johansson" to become "Jonsson" and with this family we also see a variation of "Jånsson" and this is the least likely variant

so, I then reviewed the Östmark Household records, AI:12, 1836-1840, p 340 with place name as, Fäbacken

3 Findagrave, id 189733974 ; post

Olaf married Marit Ericksdotter in Sweden, daughter of Erick Erickson. Olaf and Marit had one daughter Inga Kristina, born November 1863 in Sweden. They came to Carver County, Minnesota in April 1865. [but they left in Apr 1865 and it is likely it was later in the fall of 1865 or possibly even later when they arrived at Watertown or Götaholm MN [possibly the same place] in Carver County. Thus it is most likely to say that he died in the winter of 1865-1866]
Possibly a son was born in America. Olaf froze to death the first winter they were in Minnesota.
[the Family Plot FT - records death near Waconia, MN [in Carver Co, about 55 kms south east of Cokato and abt 15 km south of Watertown]
In 1869, Marit married Mads Peter Hanson who was born in Denmark.
- and Olaf's findagrave post links to Mary Hanson, b 1843 in Sweden and died 1906 Spokane County, WA

* some remarks on Olof's siblings - see his father's research page

4. History of Wright Co MN, by Curtiss-Wedge, Franklyn. Wright County Historical Society (Minnesota)
H. C. Cooper, Jr and Co. Chicago. 1915

- page viewer image, 562 [re; Peter Moody family article ...... ]

"The first winter was an especially hard one. One night when he [Peter Moody] and his brother Ole [Olof] had driven to Watertown and were on their return, the cold was so intense that Ole was frozen to death. Before the house was reached a heavy snow began to fall, and the people in the cabin were soon snowbound with the dead body.
A rude coffin was made, and it was several days before the burial could take place."

NOTE: this is different from the findagrave post. BUT this likely has the most accuracy, since it is likely that the writer of the book or his staff had interviewed the sons of Per J Moody (ie Anton or Gustav) a year or two prior to 1915. And this is likely a known story in the family.

5. There is no record of Olof in the American Swedish Church records - Trinity Lutheran at Carver Co or Stockholm Lutheran Church in Wright Co
- no record of Marit and 2nd marriage at Trinity

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

1. Alternate death location: Alternate death location, 1865, Elmdale, Morrison Co, Minnesota, United States. Some reseachers have indicated the Olof died at Elmdale, MN. The "stories" written and posted on his findagrave id, record that he froze to death while he and a neighbor had gone to Royalton, Morrison Co for supplies.

One of the difficulties with this story is that the author of the story is not named nor are there any source materials.

I have found no evidence that Olof had ever gone to Morrison Co. BLO-glo records ?????

2. Death location, 1865-66: Death location, Between 1865 and 1866, Waconia, Carver Co, Minnesota, United States. Most other family researchers note that Olof Modig died the "first winter in MN" and so his death would have been during the winter of 1865-1866. It is most reasonable his death location was in Carver Co. However, it is possible that his death occurred in Morrison County, MN

The Family Plot FT, [brairmoon, access 8 May 2022], records his death at Waconia in Carver Co. Waconia is about 55 kms south east of Cokato and abt 15 km south of Watertown township]. The north end of Lake Waconia is just a bit south of the southern boundary of Watertown Twp. The town of Waconia is on the southern end of Lake Waconia.

3. Emigration - 1865: Leaving for North America, 24 Apr 1865, Lekvattnet, Värmland län, Sweden. 9196 Olof Jonsson and Marit Eriksdotter, along with daughter Inga Kristina left Lekvattnet parish for North America on 24 Apr 1865. It is not entirely clear what surname was used in the United States - Jonsson, Johansson, Modig
