His location of birth is from the 1895 MN State Census (familyseach.org image #14; PO Hoffman). The book (Footprints Along the Stoney, 1982 [Armena History book]; page 352) notes that the Erik and Johanna Paulson family "...left the County of Grant, Minnesota in 1896." On page 350 of the Armena History book (submission for Carl and Ethel Paulson) notes that Carl was the eldest son of Erik and Johanna and that he (Carl) was born on 9 Sep 1886 in Hoffman, Grant Co, MN.

Askel married Josephine Broen, daughter of John E Broen and Mary Ekland, in 1922 in Alberta, Canada.⁶⁰⁵ (Josephine Broen was born in Nov 1902 in Alberta, Canada,⁶⁰⁶ died on 3 Oct 1989 in Camrose, Alberta, Canada and was buried in Valleyview Cemetery, Camrose, Alberta, Canada.)
