Halsten Erickson

   Another name for Halsten was Holsten Erickson.

  Research Notes:

Brief Summary: Halsten, sometimes known Holsten Erickson was born in Östmark parish in 1847. He is my 4th half cousin, 3 times removed. His relationship is through my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret, and Avey's grandfather, Erick Andersson. Erick was born in 1843 in Östmark parish - Erick's ancestors were among the first settlers at the farm Arnsjön area of Östmark/Fryksände area. His ancestors had first arrived from Finland and had the Finnish Family Name of Hotakka.

Halsten's ancestors were some of the early settlers on the farm Fäbacken. At the time the farm was within the boundaries of Fryksände parish, later within Östmark parish, and later Lekvattnet parish. Sometime around 1860, Halsten's father's place changed to be within the boundaries of Östmark parish and with the farm name as Ulfsson under Hiramsberg. His ancestors also had initially come from Finland, and they had the Finnish Family Name of Porkka.

In 1866 he left Östmark for North America [a year later his father and some of his siblings left Östmark for America.
It is likely the Halsten's first stop was at his uncle's, his father's brother - Jöns Ericksson, 1834-1912. Jöns settled in Stockholm Twp, Wright Co, MN. Halsten's father also came to Stockholm Twp.

On 23 Nov 1878, Halsten married Fredericka Nilsdotter, b 1857 in Östmark parish. Fredricka Nilsdotter and Halsten were first cousins. Fredricka's father was Nils Ersson/Erickson, 1828-1911, a brother to Jons Erickson [1818-1899] who was the father of Halsten.

Sometime before 1895, Halsten and Fredericka moved to Traverse Co, MN and had a farm in Wheaton Twp.

In 1895, Fredericka died. I have not found a grave marker.

However, by 1900 Halsten moved back to Wright Co, this time to a farm in South Side Twp [see my notes below the 1900 US Census]. Halsten died in April 1918.

[historic map works]; using land convertor, this is a little east of Quist Ave NW and a little north of Redwood Ave NW, with Mead Lake to the east and Goble Lake to the north, only about 150 meters; Redwood Ave NW changes to Quinn Ave N - follow north on Quinn Ave N for abt 2 kms and reach the small town of South Haven, MN.
In 1915, Halsten is only about a km + south west of the farm 1901. Both are about 6-8 kms to the north of the town of Kingston in Meeker Co and it is in Kingston where Halsten is buried. But I'm not sure why this cemetery?

**** Brodin Ostlund FT attaches a record - Wills and probates (186 and 187; pages 155-156) with his will date 10 Nov 1916 and probated in Jan 1922. HOWEVER none of the names of the children are his children. Thus I believe there must be two people named Halsten Erickson and this record of a will is NOT our relative - agreed - re-review on 28 Aug 2023 - this is the wrong person and not 'our' Halsten Erickson

FTs Halsten Erikson died 12 Apr 1918 at South Haven, Wright Co, MN [about 25 kms north of Cokato];
Findagrave has him buired at Lake Union Cemetery, Kingston, Meeker Co; name as Holsten Erikson ??? this is abt 15 kms from Cokato; and likely not farm he had in Southside Twp, Wright Co, but why is the burial here ???

- addresss for Halsten was in Cokato and it mentions his daugther Mabel married to Arthur living in Missoula, MT
